Ello BDD!
It has been some time :) I hope you're all well.

I've talked about this in bits and bats in other threads, but thought this may be an interesting topic to explore:

I'm on a Codeine script. When I find myself without it (such as the other few days due to the bank holiday Monday) and in withdrawals, it's not the psychological aspects of the withdrawals that bother me at all - It's the physical pain that's the prominent aspect!
Honestly, it's like some fucking demon has a grab of your guts and just causes pain.

I imagine this to be similar to using Loperamide for physical withdrawal pain when coming off a heavy H habit or whatnot:
They both attach themselves more to the µ-Opioid receptors in the Gastrointestinal Tract, rather than in the reward center of the brain - like other more recreational Opioids target.

I've honestly had more physical discomfort from Codeine than I have from Heroin when it came to withdrawals.

So - What are your ideas / experiences / move to OD mods if it would be better placed there :)

Peace! <3

Good to see you again, monsta :D

Codeine is metabolized to codeine-6-glucuronide (C6G) and morphine. It is the combination of C6G and morphine that provide analgesia (and also bind to the receptors in the gut - as to all opiates/opioids). Interesting that codeine causes you the most physical pain. What dosage of codeine are you usually taking?

I'm going to move this over to OD since its more of an intermediate-level question.

BDD --> OD

codeine and tramadol isn't too bad for me physically. the likes of oxycodone and heroin are the harshest to me, also because they just hit me so damn quick after not dosing for 6 - 8 hours. codeine withdrawal comes on a lot slower so i can kinda easy into it if that makes sense. still not a very pleasant experience

physically it's a walk in the park for me compared to other opiates. Psychologically, i crave any opiate and walking by the pharmacy every day is pretty triggering, even though i won't even get much out of it.

I'd say codeine withdrawals hurt me more psychologically than physically, usually it's 3 days of restless legs and non stop shitting and sleep issues and then it's over. However, the psychological part doesn't go away and whether it be codeine or morphine, i still crave it.

i suppose it depends on the person and how they metabolize codeine as well. I've never found the physical aspect of opiate withdrawals the worst, except maybe the RLS. It's the PAWS and psychological issues that kill me every time, regardless of which opiate it is.

I suppose it depends how much you are taking. A heavy codeine addiction could certainly be worse than a light oxy or H addiction but that's really it. Even a moderate habit of heroin or a stronger pharm like oxy or hydromorphone, is going to be pretty brutal compared to kicking any codeine habit in most cases.

That's not to say the withdrawals wont suck, they always do, but you shouldn't be bed ridden and shitting yourself for days coming off something like codeine, like you are kicking something like heroin.

Good to see you again, monsta :D
And you Neighbor! :D Hope yer doing well mate :)~<3

Thankyou to everyone who's given their experiences and opinions :)

My scripted Codeine dose is 150mg thrice daily, but sometimes I'll have a really shitty day and take larger doses: ceiling-dose-level type thing.
I used to have a right bad psychological addiction to Heroin, but these days I can go without - I've not used in quite some time actually! (yay me =D)
I completely agree that RLS is one of the top of the withdrawal shit-list... Fuck man, hate hate hate it. Then you get no sleep and you're worse off in every aspect 8(
But the GI tract action, the fevers - even the lesser physical ones such as teary eyes and yawning - and all other physical sensations of WD from Codeine just seem to be worse for me :?

Different Dr. Phil's for different pills I guess :)

Cheers all - And please feel free to carry on (I'll try not let my amnesia forget I created this thread 8) =D )

Much love peeps and peepettes :)~<3
