19) Where can I find out more about the drug?
20) Where can I get some?
1) What is it?
OxyContin (pronounced "oxy-con-tin") is the name of a pain killer produced by Purdue pharmaceuticals.. its key component, and the only active drug it contains is the narcotic Oxycodone (pronounced "ox-E-ko-done") .. Oxycodone is the same narcotic found in Percocet, Percodan, Roxicodone, etc.. it is a Schedule II drug that is regulated with extreme prejudice.. OxyContin was approved by the FDA a few years ago, but it's popularity has exploded thanks to the media!
2) So what's so special about it?
The tablets are compromised of not only the narcotic, but the following; ammonio methacrylate copolymer, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, stearyl alcohol, talc, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and a few other things.. the magic in these pills is that they are TIME-RELEASE.. unlike Percocet, where you take the pill, and it is rapidly absorbed (delivering the full narcotic dose at once), OxyContin tablets release the narcotic over a period of about 8 hours (Purdue says 12 but that's not really accurate) .. these have given many chronic pain patients their life back, myself included..
3) What doses do they come in?
10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg, and 160mg ..
4) How do I identify these pills?
The 10mg, 20mg, and 40mg pills are all the same size - a little smaller then an aspirin .. they are round with no score.. the 80mg tab is larger - about the size of a penny, the 160mg tab is not round, but oblong (kind of like an oval) .. on one side the letters 'OC' are stamped and on the other side the dose is imprinted (i.e. a 20mg pill says 'OC' on one side and '20' on the other) .. they are different colors as well:
10mg - white
20mg - pink
40mg - dark yellow
80mg - greenish-blue
160mg - dark blue
During clinical trials there was a 60mg tablet that was red - it never made it to market..
5) What are they used for / who gets them?
OxyContin is intended for patients who require long-term narcotic therapy, such as cancer patients, burn victims, those with back injuries, and other people who suffer from chronic, iretractable pain.. generally narcotics are a last-line of defense against chronic pain, so don't think you can complain of a sore wrist and get a script for these.. given all the media hysteria, fewer doctors are willing to prescribe these for fear of a DEA audit.
6) What 'fun' can be had with them?
You're dealing with a lot of narcotic in a little pill... think of it like this - you could eat 4 Percocet's for a nice buzz, or 1 of the 20mg OxyContin tabs - the OxyContin would be released over time, making for a longer, and more 'even' high..
7) Percocet is no big deal, what's so cool about these?
Of course the author of this would NEVER advocate the abuse of any controlled substance, but many people abuse OxyContin by taking it in 'alternate' ways... the most common practice is to crush the pill and snort it - you then get hit with the full dose of oxycodone at once.. this is not possible with something like Percocet, as there is only a little oxycodone, but a LOT of other shit such as fillers, binders, and the evil acetaminophen (APAP) ..
8) So you crush the tablet? It's that easy? How would one hypothetically do this?
Well, first you need to peal off the coating on the tablet, and to dispel a popular myth - THE COATING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TIME RELEASE ACTIONS OF THE PILL! The coating is simply a 'wrapper' of sorts for the tab.. the easiest way to get the coating off is to simply use yer finger nail and scrape off as much as you can.. you will have a white tab with traces of the coating.. to actually break the time release mechanism you must crush the pill - a sharp razor is used to slice the pill into as small of sections as you can, from there you can use anything you like to crush it.. they take some time to get to a fine dust, but it's a labor of love
9) What do I do with this powder?
If you want to get hit hard and fast, then snort it (in the same manor you would snort cocaine or anything else) .. it doesn't burn, but the taste isn't that great at first (eventually you grow to love it).. the downside is that the high doesn't last as long as compared to the second way you could take it - orally .. now that you have broke the time release mechanism, if you orally took the pill you would get hit with all the narcotic at once - the easiest way to do this is to put the powder in a gel cap (like an empty Tylenol Cold and Sinus cap) ..
10) Can I smoke it?
Of course there are those nutty people, namely potheads who listen to Phish and wear Birkenstocks, who feel they MUST smoke it - while TECHNICALLY you CAN, it's really a VERY stupid thing to do .. if you apply a direct flame you only get a moderate rush - but it tastes like a gay Puerto Ricans asshole, you also waste good dope .. if you don't apply a direct flame (i.e. a piece of foil) then you will get a slightly better hit, but the smoke is harsh and nasty..
11) Can I inject it?
!NO! This is probably one of the most common questions asked .. now let me tell you that when it comes to IV drug use, that is the only way I go.. but not with OxyContin! Why not you ask? Well, from the Purdue website -
"OxyContin consists of a dual-polymer matrix, intended for oral use only. Parenteral venous injection of the tablet constituents, especially talc, can be expected to result in local tissue necrosis and pulmonary granulomas."
For a better explanation of this VERY REAL condition, I found this in the 'The New England Journal of Medicine' .. I capitalized the important shit..
--/BEGIN/--
A 25-year-old woman with a history of heroin use was admitted for increasing dyspnea. A chest radiograph showed diffuse bilateral pulmonary infiltrates that were predominantly interstitial. An open-lung biopsy was performed. Histologic analysis showed medial hypertrophy of medium-sized pulmonary arteries indicative of pulmonary hypertension, as well as occasional foreign-body granulomas. Polarized light microscopy revealed refractile particles in the outer portion of the wall of a pulmonary artery (hematoxylin and eosin, x40). Electron microscopy of lung tissue showed the ultrastructural aspects of the embolized microcrystalline material in an alveolar septum. IN INTRAVENOUS DRUG USERS, PULMONARY GRANULOMATOSIS IS DUE TO THE REPEATED FORMATION OF MICROEMBOLI OF FOREIGN MATERIAL RESULTING FROM THE INJECTION OF SUSPENSIONS OF CRUSHED TABLETS OR THE CONTENTS OF CAPSULES INTENDED FOR ORAL CONSUMPTION. THE FOREIGN MATERIAL CONSISTS OF INSOLUBLE MICROCRYSTALS (CELLULOSE, TALC, OR STARCH) USED AS INERT FILLER SUBSTCES IN ORAL PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATIONS SUCH AS METHADONE AND BARBITURATES. There is no specific treatment for granulomatous lung disease related to intravenous drug use. The open-lung biopsy was complicated by a pneumothorax. Progressive respiratory failure subsequently developed, and the patient died four weeks later.

But I know that some people don't want to listen to silly little things like that, because it's just more propaganda from 'the man' - BULLSHIT! Drugs are fun, and opioids are one of the ONLY drugs that don't actually do ANY damage to the user - shit, in terms of physical damage, marijuana is FAR more dangerous then heroin - but if you inject OxyContin, while you might enjoy the rush today, the above paragraph about pulmonary granulomas would make me think twice.. btw, it's not as though you can filter the shit out, as these particles are tiny and not even noticeable in the liquid.... because of the danger in injection, I am not even going to outline the proper procedure for preparing a pill for injection - if you want to fuck yourself up that bad then you will have to learn it yourself!
12) How much does OxyContin cost?
Remember, this is a new drug, so Purdue has the exclusive rights to it for about 5-7 more years - so until then, expect to bend over and grab your ankles as you get fucked in the ass on price ...
In the pharmacy they sell for about $.14/mg (so a 10mg pill sells for like $1.35) .. if you have insurance, then you might get lucky and they would actually pay for it - MANY INSURANCE COMPANIES DO NOT! When I went shopping for health insurance, the determining factor in who I went with was that they covered all the drugs I enjoy - 'err, I mean the drugs I have a legit need for... remember, OXYCONTIN IS CLOSED FORMULARY WITH MANY INSURANCE COMPANIES ... but who gives a shit if you have to pay $3 for a 20mg pill?
As for street prices - it depends.. if you have a friend with good insurance who gets a monthly script, yet only needs half them, there is a good chance you could pick up some for a decent price.. if you buy from anyone on the street, then it's not uncommon to pay about $.50/mg to a whopping $1/mg
13) What are the effects?
To someone who has not used a strong narcotic, it will probably go something like this:
1. you snort the line very fast and suddenly realize that the taste isn't as pleasant as that yummy lemon ketamine you made..
2. you chug a huge glass of water to kill the sinus drain, you now fight to keep from puking at the simple taste..
3. you sit back and feel good .. your stomach feels a little uneasy ..
4. you puke..
5. you begin to itch..
6. you feel REALLY GOOD... nice and warm, all fuzzy, not a care in the world.. but you itch
7. you come back to earth and realize how pathetic life is without opioids
Of course there are analgesic properties as well - i.e. you feel no pain (physical or emotional) ..
14) What about side effects?
You will almost definitely itch - you can take some Benadryl to take care of this.. you may experience some nausea and an upset stomach too.. most everyone experiences the cotton-mouth syndrome.. you may also have trouble urinating and may experience constipation.. those are normal, they pass with time and experience.. on a more serious note, oxycodone is a strong CNS depressant that will slow yer breathing and heart rate, it is advised that you do NOT make a habit out of going to sleep under the influence, as when you sleep your cardiac and respiratory functions are impaired even more - this can lead to you getting sick as your body isn't cycling enough oxygen through yer body... rarely some people will experience a mild to severe skin rash, headaches, and even hallucinations - IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY OF THE LATTER STOP TAKING THE DRUG!
15) What are the REAL DANGERS?
As mentioned above, oxycodone is a strong narcotic that will slow your heart and breathing, so don't think that you CAN'T overdose fatally.. this bring us to our next point -
16) How do I handle an overdose?
If one of your friends has taken OxyContin and is unrousable (i.e. passed out) then it would be wise to either CALL 911 or GET THE VICTIM TO A HOSPITAL.. I know, this isn't the "cool" thing to do at a party, and you look like a total L-7 .. your friends will be saying "hey man, let him sleep it off, he will be fine" - FUCK THEM! Most narcotic deaths could have been prevented had someone taken action rather then assumed everything "would be cool" .. I have had several friends die from drug overdoses, and in two of those instances, thee would have survived if they had been taken to a back room to "chill out and rest" .. another thing to consider is that is someone actually takes the pill properly, they will have a constant supply of the drug in their system - for instance, if you do a shot of heroin and pass out, the drug has hit it's ceiling rather quick - and the body begins to recover... but with OxyContin, should a narcotic virgin pop a 160mg pill, then that person is going to fall out, yet STILL have the drug being maintained in their system.. if you're alone, and you feel yourself start to fall asleep - STAY AWAKE! Take deep breaths, and try to keep moving - if you find yourself totally falling out, CALL SOMEONE! 911, a friend, a parent - WHATEVER (sadly if yer that far gone you wouldn't be able to dial a phone number)
17) What about addiction?
Oxycodone is addictive, then again, everything is to a certain extent .. it all comes down to the user ... don't turn to narcotics to fix all the problems in your life!
18) How much should I take to 'have fun'?
I am not going to actually give any exact numbers, because everyone is different .. my ex-gf needed at LEAST 40mg (snorted) to catch ANY buzz, while 20mg had me laying on the floor as happy as can be ... I would say start small - 10mg snorted to get a feel for the effects, then go up - but BE CAREFULL! give yourself time between doses to get used to it ..
19) Where can I find out more about the drug?
This FAQ was written to give some basic answers, I didn't feel like getting into the hardcore pharmacology... if you want more info on this drug, here are a few sites I found - http://my.webmd.com - lots of info on drugs http://www.rxlist.com http://www.oxycontin.com http://www.druginfonet.com/faq/new/DRUG_FAQ/Oxycontin.htm http://www.healthanswers.com.au/drugdata/DrugDetails.asp?ID=7086
And don't forget Yahoo! or any of the other search engines!
20) Where can I get some?
Well, you can either make friends with someone who is in a LOT of pain, or you could burn yourself, or you could secure a LIFETIME supply the easy way... what would that be? TAOS v2.0 will tell you... it's in it's final stanges, and lemme tell ya, all you knowledgeWhores, this is FULL of drugPorn! I have put over 2 years into writing TAOS, I hope it shows!
Well, that does it for v1.1 ... mail me with any other questions .. I hope this helped!
