i was wondering what are some of the things you do the old school way ?
like i refuse to make microwavable popcorn ~i heat oil in a pot, add some kernels and let them go pop pop pop , that evil hum of the microwave and the smell after scares me

i also use soap , instead of those new body washes ( i do love bath products , just not shit like axe shower gel and Dial ttropical breeze )

i almost always use a dictionary , theres something about looking a word up, that is so much more satisfying then using dictionary.com or some website,

when i smoked cigs ,i went thru a period where i would only use wooden matches, but that was cuz i was a dumb puber and thought lighting my cigs with those would make me even a cooler smoker 8)

im interested in some of the old fashioned stuff you blue lighters do or did

I love real popcorn. Anytime I make microwave is simply for lazyness and/or convenience. Oil in a pot, throw in some kernels, melt some real butter, pour it on, lightly salt... mmmm doesn't get much better.

I also use soap. I just never thought of using body wash. I am a very old fashioned person by today's yuppie city life standards. I'm a country bumkin. :)

i listen to music on vinyl.

Music on vinyl is amazing. I find lots of things sound better on vinyl than a 1411 kbps CD. If it's a clean record on a good player I think you've got the best reproduction you can get after the master tapes. Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl blew me away. So much better than digital media; The heartbeats int he opening are so much deeper and everything is just so much cleaner and profound.

I make liquor in my bathtub.

This could work! You could put a heating element under the tub, funnel the vapours into the bottom tap, they'll go up the pipe and if you have one of those shower heads on a hose, just curl the hose around and collect the distillate out of the showerhead. =D

Actually that likely wouldn't work at all. In theory the potential is there though!

My most recent old fashioned way thing I did; I watched The Jungle Book on VHS last Friday. Something about an old, human drawn disney movie on VHS brings back childhood memories. It's the only true way to watch a disney movie in my book. I find the slight analog grain just adds that level of authenticity. :)

^Or you could just assemble a still inside of the tub ;). Much easier (and cheaper) that way

True heh, what an interesting shaped funnel though. I suppose the hose's length would suffice for the cold water jacket of a traditional condenser? I've never used mine ;__;

I hate powdered and already mixed lemonades.

I make homemade lemonade :) No powder or mixes for me!

^ Same. Lemon juice, water and sugar is the only way to make lemonade in my house. It's not like it's hard; I don't even see why there's a market for the fake powdered crap.

I like to make my own jams and jar em up.....

My dad has a garden. He grows nearly all his veggies and grows lots of cucumbers to make his own pickles with. His pickles are by far my favorite out of any pickles I've ever had.

I found a natural cluster of MacIntosh apple trees in the woods a few miles down the road. They're right loaded with apples right now; I went back there today and filled my backpack with them. There's about 40 pounds worth. They're completely natural trees, no one is maintaining, fertilizing or spraying them. Pure natural apples, spots and all. :)

Tomorrow I'm going to start making lots of apple sauce, putting it into containers and freezing them. I love apple sauce. I'm going to have a stockpile for the winter. :)

my yard has a few apple trees; a lot of the yards on my block do as well. i don't think they're macintosh, though, but they are really good for cooking. my neighbor picked some today from mine, and i might cook some up in the next few days. i have a pear tree too :)

i have a weird thing for rotary wall phones. and at home i refuse to use anything but a mercury filled thermometer when checking for a fever. but since pharmacies started phasing them out and offering digital ones as an exchange, they're getting harder to find. i'm not big on collecting shit, but i have this feeling that holding onto them is a good idea, cuz they'll make awesome hand-me-downs in the future. so i just ordered a case of them :D

I still don't allow women in my family to attend school or date/marry out of their race.

But that's a pretty common thing isn't it?

Not only is it not common, it's none of your business.

But I sense you're kidding. ;)

Natural? Natural as in growing without chemicals?? :) McIntosh is a Cultivar, and Malus spp. has origins in Asia. I had to Google it, Apple Macs. The more you knowwww.

There are probably lots of old fashioned things I do, but lately... I have been having a fire in my backyard. I've been learning heaps about the best (and old fashioned) way to set, start, build and maintain a camp fire. I have already cooked cups of tea in my Billy and would love to learn how to cook well, on an open fire.

I'm also planning to do a home brew of beer too!

i'm not big on collecting shit

Neither am I but if something's not broken and it might have a potential use int he future I won't throw it out. I am a packrat in a way, but I'm certainly not wasteful.

Rotary wall phones are weird eh? My fondest memory of them is the one that used to be in my grandma's kitchen right by the door. It also made a very loud ring off of an internal metal bell; it was really loud. Oh nostalgia.

My television isn't HD.

I know, I'm stuck in the stone age.

Neither is mine, never owned one.

This one's going to blow you all away.... I'm on dial-up. =D

There is no conventional broadband service where I live. You can get fixed wireless broadband which involves putting an antenna on your roof. I am thinking of getting it but the entire time up until then, I've been cruising around on dial-up.

Are you sure? Check out this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McIntosh_(apple)

Every McIntosh apple has a direct lineage to a single tree discovered in 1811 by John McIntosh on his farm in Dundela, a hamlet near Morrisburg, in Dundas County, Ontario.

I found this awesomely interesting; that's about an hour east of where I live.

Fires are great and incredibly useful. Knowing how to build a fire is a very useful skill to have. It can really keep you alive in certain situations and it sure makes food taste good.

My parents make their own wine. I'd love to build a still, brew a batch of mash and distill some whisky. :)

oh, this might count! in the winter i heat my house with a wood burning stove. i have a furnace, but it only kicks on when i'm too busy to keep the fire going. and last winter, the furnace was broke til around january, when i finally got around to ordering parts and fix0ring it.

^ It's simple for me, because I am a Botanist. I'll try and explain clearly.

Malus is the Genera that is what we eat as Apples, Genera as in Genus. The Botanical name. Malus occur in the wild, naturally in Asia, not in the Americas. The Apple trees that you found are either the known cultivar, McIntosh and planted by someone, or they are seedlings from something very similar.

There is a debate about how natural is natural. But within my beliefs, that the Genus Malus, was brought to the Americas within the last few decades. Some people argue that Dingoes are not in fact native to Australia because they came here 10's of thousands of years ago with Aboriginal people.

If you read the Wiki article about 'apple' and 'cultivar' it may help :)

Am I raving? Anybody interested? I could do this all day :(
