Harm Reduction The Official Bluelight Smoking Cessation Thread v. Let's quit the cancer

Good luck everyone that's trying to quit. Day 5 for me! Feeling strong!

still haven't had any. Been driving around and usually I smoke when driving around especially stressful times like rush hour but still have not cancer'd. :)

I'm not about to start blazing and driving again because I don't want to get locked up again, it's worth just waiting til I get to where I'm going to break out the hash keifs and oils haha.

Although there's not much I enjoy more than highriding it on private property just cruising around acres of property, forest, backtrails, whatever, if I have to throw her in 4-LO then all the more fun.

Ok. Well today was not really a good day to quit smoking. I stayed up till 6:30 am. I woke up at 11:30 am ish. First thing I wanted was a cig. I resisted the urge till 12:30-1:00pm. At first it was hot outside and I took 2 puffs and went back inside. Then 30 min later I finished it. I did not really even try today. Tomm I will try harder. I'm going to bed soon and will be well rested and mentally refreshed. I'm tired and was trying to sleep. But that did not work too well. I'm going back to bed. Let's see how good I do tomm :)

OK- about 90 days clear after 30 years 1-2 packs daily. What finally worked was the Chantix (Champix in EU, Varanicline everywhere). Stuff is great.
My only comment- partial agonist my ass. Minimal agonism at best, and complete receptor blockage. I was as nicotine-dope-sick as I have ever been for the first 72 hours after I started taking the stuff, and NO number of cigarettes would fix me.

Eventually ya actually do get bored of trying to fix, if it just plain doesn't work. Now I know how the rat feels when they disconnect the cocaine from the lever- " Drug, why hast thou forsaken me?"

... but it is pretty manageable at this point- The only time I still have significant cravings is in the car on the way home from work, and when I'm tripping. I'd say that I'd replaced those cigarettes with joints, but I probably would've smoked the joints anyway...

I didn't see the worst of the listed side effects, ( well, the precipitated w/d...but if they warned ya about that, nobody'd take the stuff ever...). Little nausea, (DO NOT take this stuff on an empty stomach), little insomnia...

Oh yeah, and cigarettes just stopped working.
Which blows.
In a good way.

It's complicated.

I am still trying to quit. It has been really hard. My hubby and I were talking about it and he will help pay for my pain medication if I quit. That relieves a lot on my mind. But I'm still smoking. I have a reward beyond being health and I still do. What gets me is I say just one last cig or pack then that's it. But it's never just that. I hate it. Opiates as far as I know don't have this control over me. They could but lets not think about that till later on when everything is better. I guess I'm just ranting. This is a good thread and I want to keep it alive.

I never got enough benefits from any gum, patch, spray, vaporizer, etc.

The only way I've ever managed to quit nicotine for an extended period of time was by replacing cigarettes with cannabis.

Everytime I want a cigarette, first I would roll joints because the process is still very much like rolling/smoking a cigarette in a psychological sense, and then using high potency extracts like hashes, keifs, and oils to zap any urges that remained after smoking the joint.

^^ This..if 20 joints was the same price as 20 cigs i'd probably never smoke a cigarette again...matter of fact the only time i really smoke cigs is when i have no weed or am drunk/on drugs

funny this thread just started, as i think i have accidentally quit smoking (mostly). i just switched from methadone to suboxone and went through a lot of dope sick precipitated withdrawal hell... is it just me or are cigarettes no good when you are dope sick? i have still been having 1 or so a day, because my brain tells me to i guess, but if i was experiencing WD from cigs the methadone WD did a great job at masking it :/

so now i just have to keep going. so considering this thread is part of OD, i should say if i still had a dope habit i don't think i could quit smoking. that cigarette helps your buzz WAY too much. so those of you still on the dope have your work cut out for ya. anyways, i have quit a few times for 6 plus months and i will add some of the things that helped me.

1. WILL POWER you have to want it, bad, or you are not going to stop. someone said somethin about saying "this is my last cig/last pack" etc. you can't do that, you have to make the decision and stop. the time i was most successful i dumped half a pack of smokes out my car window and just STOPPED. many of us have been through REAL WD, its not THAT bad.

2. REPLACE THE FIXATION someone mentioned toothpicks. what always worked really well for me was cutting a straw to cigarette size and "smoking it". i just went through the same motions as though i was smoking (couldn't really do it in public without looking like a weirdo tho...). but i think they make an actual product for such purposes. it made me realize how much of the addiction was mental too, because it really did instantly calm me down.

3. EXERCISE i used to run obsessively, and it helped so much. it gets all the smokers stuff out of your lungs and shows you what it feels like to truly breath, because if you smoke you are not breathing as well as you can. you will be shocked when you quit and see the difference. then there are all the other things about exercise that are obvious: endorphins, getting the nictotine out of your system faster... etc.

4. NO EXCEPTIONS once you have a few days under your belt, or maybe months, years? you may be tempted to have a cigarette since "you are not addicted anymore". DON'T. this is how i have ended up smoking again EVERY TIME. maybe not all at once, but it will sneak back up on you; its better to not risk your progress.

well that's all i got. good luck guys. i'll let you know if i really quit myself. all this talk about smoking is going to make me smoke the 1 cigarette i have, now. lol. we shall see how it goes after that :)

That is a great idea Tricomb!!! I really need to stop. I can not afford it and it is killing me. This would be a great support thread to help encourage quitting. Tomm my first step will be not to smoke first thing in the morning and see how long I can go. Anybody with me? I'm really competitive so who wants to do this too, see how long we can go?
I also alot of times don't smoke first thing in the morning-and sometimes don't until the midday. But that's when I don't work early. If I have to drive into work in the morning, I break my "waiting routine" because I'm so used to smoking in the car on the way to work. I hate this.

I actually would like to quit too. My problem is (and most will say this will stop me from being successful) is I dont WANT to quit. I like to smoke. IDK why. Its expensive. I smell bad. People comment on it and im embarrassed. My problem is, my wife REALLY wants me to stop. Her grandpa died from lung cancer and she says she couldnt handle if I did as well. Im scared to die over something so stupid. I dont smoke "reguararly" at home. The second I get into my car to go somewhere, I light a cig, the second I have a break/lunch, I smoke.

I have tried gum (useless, made me want to smoke more). I have tried ecigs. I feel like if i could stick to the ecig I would be able to quit. Its just soooo much work....

I promised to get my ecigs out and try again this Tuesday (my day off from work). I hope I can pull through this time, I hate to see her to scared over my health.

Think about something else. It's been 2 weeks so it's all mental.

Think about something else. When the idea pops in your head tell it no. I don't want it. It worked for me.

That's how I quit TC...(years ago) I had an LB of guerilla grown sativa, all the seeds were from Acapulco, Panama,
Jamaica, It had tons of seed but was sweet, fresh, awesome ! Everytime I craved a cig' I just twisted one up & smoke part of it. It was pretty easy for me, as I only had a 4 year habit
