professional football season is upon us! I always shut off my cable right after football season, and I just turned it back on.

who does everyone think will be the main contenders this year? how about the teams people are sleeping on?

I will post a more comprehensive, team by team, pre-season analysis that would even make Mel Kiper Jr shake in his boots. but in the meantime, what do you all think?

do you guys think that the Pittsburgh Steelers can win an unprecedented seven Lombardi Trophies this year? or will they just make it to the first or second round of the playoffs?

I just hope the Lions win a game this season. :(

Nowhere to go but up?

I'm also curious to see if Vick gets any playing time this season.

Although I usually cheer against home teams, I hope the Dolphins do big things. They're due.

All I want if for the Texans to produce ONE winning season. I know we will not be a major playoff contender but I wish we could at least lose with a little dignity this season. Do you guys think Tom Brady will make a full comeback to the all star he was?

Tom Brady will come back better than ever, imo.

A year of full rest will do him well.

^ I agree Brady will come back strong to prove its not just the system its him who makes the offense work. Im a Miami fan and Im not getting my hopes up as I think Pennington will fall off, has he ever had back to back good seasons? I want to see how the Eagles use Vick also, he could do damage. Im glad to see this thread, NFL is my jam ;).

The Pats also acquired Fred Taylor. He's a beast, just never really got a lot of press in Jacksonville.

The Tuna will make sure MIA has a good season. ;)

I grew up with Taylor at UF then I see him every week with the jags as Im so close. Taylor is a beast and you're right he never gets much love but he is the defanition of dependable. End of Fred Taylor ass licking.

Fred Taylor was good until he became injury prone. Then MJ-J lit a fire under him but the Jags couldnt afford to keep them both.

As for 2010, Steelers for 7! =D

Wow....2 years! 8o

Plaxico Burress accepts plea bargain
Former Giants receiver faces two years in prison for weapons charges.

Associated Press

August 20, 2009 | 9:58 p.m.

Facing the prospect of spending at least 3 1/2 years behind bars, onetime Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress on Thursday accepted a plea bargain with a two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub.

The former New York Giants wide receiver pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a lesser charge than he had faced. He will be sentenced Sept. 22, and lawyer Benjamin Brafman said he expects Burress to begin serving his sentence immediately after.

Burress, 32, left without speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, but Brafman said, "After an agonizing period of discussion, Plaxico decided that he wanted to do this, to put this behind him as quickly as possible."

The former football star was indicted this month on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment.

Hours after his court appearance, the NFL announced Commissioner Roger Goodell had suspended Burress and said he is ineligible to sign with any team until he completes his jail term. Goodell, who met with Burress and his representatives last week, said Burress will be reinstated upon completion of his sentence.

With time off for good behavior, Burress probably will serve 20 months. He will be monitored during an additional two years after his release, which could come as early as the spring of 2011.

Roethlisberger hurt

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his right ankle or foot during the last half-hour of the team's final training camp practice. It was not immediately certain how badly he was hurt or how long he would be out.

Roethlisberger had an ice pack on the back of the ankle when he was carted off at the end of Thursday's workout, with offensive coordinator Bruce Arians accompanying him. Roethlisberger didn't talk to reporters, but he could be overheard saying, "Oh, it just feels great. It feels like a car ran over it."

Coach Mike Tomlin declined to talk to reporters. Team spokesman Dave Lockett said only, "Someone stepped on his foot, and we don't have any updates other than that."

As the Steelers' starting offense practiced against the starting defense, left tackle Max Starks couldn't handle a rush from linebacker James Harrison, the 2008 NFL defensive player of the year. Starks went down to one knee as he tripped Roethlisberger, who stayed on the turf for about five minutes.

Talib out on bail

Tampa Bay cornerback Aqib Talib was held out of practice after police said he punched a taxi driver and was jailed on charges of simple battery and resisting arrest without violence.

The Buccaneers said the second-year pro, who fought with a teammate during last year's NFL rookie symposium and then had another confrontation with a teammate this off-season, would not be suspended by the team.

Instead the club referred the matter to the league.

Talib posted $300 bail early Thursday. A Florida Highway Patrol arrest report said the 23-year-old punched a cabdriver in the neck and ear after he picked up Talib and two other men outside a St. Petersburg nightclub.

Exhibitions

With Cincinnati kicker Shayne Graham nursing a tender groin, receiver Chad Ochocinco booted an extra point late in the first half -- a point that gave the Bengals a 7-6 win over the New England Patriots at Foxborough, Mass. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was knocked down twice on his 13 snaps, but he got up quickly both times, his left knee passing the test after surgery that followed a season-ending knee injury in last year's opener. . . . Peyton Manning threw two touchdown passes, leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 23-15 victory over visiting Philadelphia. Manning completed 10 of 14 passes for 167 yards.

I'd like to think that Brady comes back strong, but so far in the preseason he has seemed tentative and unwilling to step up into passes - he seems rattled under the pass rush, and performing under pressure always been his forte. I hope he regains some confidence after some more preseason work.

Burress is an idiot, he turned down a 2 month plea as he didnt want to serve a day in jail. He thought he was immune as a star, good the cocky fuck got checked like every regular person in America would have gotten.

Nickatina do you think his knee is still bothering him, thats why he isnt stepping into passes? Tom Brady's knee is the most important story line for the Pats this year imo.

I don't think it's that his knee still hurts as much as he is now scared of direct contact on it. It's not a pretty sight, I'll say that much ... I do have confidence that he will get over it by the time the season starts, though. He has always proven he is tough and can't get over this, no one can.

the most wonderful time of year.

colts homer here...

alot of the espn "experts" have been predicting a down year for the colts. why? as far as i can tell the only reason is the colts have had alot of changes in the coaching ranks.

here's why the "experts" are wrong.

1. the colts were one of the worst teams at stopping the run last year.

why? the main reason, imo, is they had very small DT's. the other reason is they played a very vanilla D with very few blitzes & movement designed to confuse the offenses.

fix #1: they drafted 2 very large DT's, signed another undrafted free agent and signed ed johnson who they released at the start of last year for substance abuse. he's very large btw. so, now they no longer have undersized DT's.

fix #2: they are no longer running the same vanilla D, they are implementing a more agressive D with more pre-snap movement to confuse offenses to their intentions....and more blitzing.

2. the colts were one of the worst teams at running the ball, if not (the) worst.

why? the main reason was the O-line was banged up. the other reason was J. addai was running like a pussy.

fix#1: the O-line is healthy with the starting right guard back after missing last season.

fix#2: they drafted donald brown, who might, or might not be the savior, but i guarentee he's lighting a fire under the ass of j. addai.

fix #3: they are starting with a run with authority mindset. which they didn't have last season.

3. manning was starting last season with a bum knee and he really didn't start playing well untill about week 6. if i remember correctly the colts started the season 1-4.

fix #1: manning's knee is fine now.

4. m. harrison was banged up (knee). when he was healthy there were times when it seemed manning was trying to force him the ball, to keep him happy.

fix #1: they released harrison. even though i love marv, i think it will help the colts in that they won't have to force balls to him to keep him happy.

this being said i still think the colts have a couple areas i'm worried about.

1. special teams - the colts have had special teams issues the last few years. i'm afraid they still will.

2. bob sanders - he was supposed to be healthy for the start of the season but he's currently on the PUP and recently saw his knee specialist which has alot of ppl wondering if maybe bob's knee is worse than the colts have been letting on.

3. O-line - they recently moved starting left tackle t. ugoh to right tackle and moved the left guard to left tackle. this has some ppl worried. regardless, they'll be better than they were last year.

I strongly believe the chargers will go deep into the playoffs. Merriman is back, which will significantly improve the whole defense, especially the secondary. LT will perform better this year because he is healthy and has something to prove. If those guys play up to their potential and Phillip Rivers has anything close to the year he had last year, watch out.

Peyton Manning is the most valuable player in the history of football.

As such, as good as Dungy, Harrison, Edgerrin James, and all of the other valuable assets the Colts have parted with are, Peyton Manning is so fucking talented, has such a high football IQ, and is such a hard-worker, that the Colts at 16 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl, in a season in which there is NO clear BEST team (The Pats, Steelers, Cowboys and Eagles all look very good, but it wouldn't shock me one iota if ANY of them failed to even MAKE it to the Conference Championship game), are CLEARLY a great bet.

I don't gamble anymore, so someone PLEASE take advantage of this once in a lifetime offer, and thank me later. :)
