the official 08 NBA playoffs thread

That game 6 was just horrible for the Lakers Fans. I am still very much a Lakers fan though.
But does anyone share the opinion that ABC does a crappy job of covering the game? I really cant stand thier commentary. I enjoyed watching the playoffs when I think TBS was covering it.

It must have really sucked for the Lakers that had to say out on the floor for the last quarter, and especially the last 7-8 minutes. As much as I can't stand Odum and his tongue, they kept their composure the best they could. I'm a Boston fan myself, and I think next year we will see the same 2 teams in the finals. Will be a different story though, if L.A. has a full cast, including Bynum. Can't wait. Congrats C's.

Really?!?!? I though Van Gundy and the black guy did a great job. Not sure about the other guy, but those 2 I thought did an excellent job. Way too many commercials though, during the last half hour.

Jeff Van Gundy is like one million times better at everything than Reggie Miller.

Van Gundy is probably the best commentator I've ever heard. More so covering the regular season games; I can't standing the overhyped Finals stuff that panders to all the bandwagon fans around the country. I hate Stuart Scott and every stupid contrived special halftime segment ever made.

I dont really know thier names but I got a lil annoyed because 2 of them were always argueing with eachother.
But I have to agree with you. If the Lakers come back with a bit more talent including as you mentioned Bynum. I think this should be a great rivalry re-born. Those Celtics deserve the 07-08 Title. I cant believe how many Celtics were ontop of their game during this series. Nearly every single one had a great night atleast in 1 game. Should we say Ray Allen MVP or Paul Pierce?

ABC is pretty shit but I think the best network for NBA coverage, specially in the playoffs, is TNT. they do a fine job.

for what it's worth, Paul Pierce got the Finals MVP, and deservedly so. Ray Allen played like utter shit for 3/4 of this year's playoffs.

What the fuck is up with sports fans not knowing how to celebrate?
We won? - Let's set cars on fire!!!
We lost?! - Let's set cars on fire!!!

Maybe its just a Los Angeles thing.

seriously?! a Los Angeles thing?! you have got to be kidding me. where I went to college, the Ohio State University, we are famed for riots and setting fires and topping cars over in a drunken ramble. and this is in the college level. LA finally had a pro team worth a damn, and relevant, and they are simply not used to being in the national stage.

I doubt there were any riots or anything in the first place. around 30 people got busted in North Station in Boston for disorderly conduct, aka being retarded (or retaahded) and drunk.

anyways I hope Agent Zero goes to Cleveland. therefore players can flock to a championship team just like Joe Girardi and everyone can jump on that demon of a bandwagon.

thats like saying that getting syphilis from a fitting room in a french boutique is better than getting syphilis from a scottish pay toilet

i'll let you decide who the frog is ;)

Let's examine facts.

Which one is a better TV analyst? Van Gundy by far. I reference, for instance, the time during a nationally televised game between the Lakers and the Mavs where during a crucial free throw late in the game Van Gundy said, "I don't like putting Brandon Bass on Kobe Bryant down in the box like that, Kobe is too strong and this is play is too critical." Low and behold, within 5 seconds exactly what Van Gundy was talking about happened as Kobe muscled the rebound away from Brandon Bass and clinched the win for the Lakers. That is only one example of his brilliant insight, and let's not forget that he is funny as hell. Reggie Miller meanwhile? He frequently seems to not know what he is talking about and makes extremely obvious observations that would even make John Madden swallow his hot dog.

Which One Looks More Like An Alien? This one clearly goes to Reggie Miller, who resembles a Ferrangi from Star Trek, a vile an untrustworthy sort. The only person on the planet who resembles an alien more than Reggie Miller is Sam Cassell or possibly Adonal Foyle, but Foyle looks more like a rock-monster than an alien.

Which Ones Had The Better Flip Out Moment During Their NBA Career? Van Gundy in a landslide. I will never forget the sight of Jeff Van Gundy clinging to Alonzo Mourning's leg or the time he freaked out as the head coach of the Knicks in one of the most hilarious displays of BALD (Bad At Life Disease) we've ever seen that left him panting and being held like a dead rabbit while wispy strands of hair attempted to outrun each other in an attempt to escape the shame of being attached to his head.

Which One Is More Clutch? You can argue that Reggie Miller was more clutch, but people forget that when Van Gundy worked for Rick Pitino at Providence he never once missed a scouting assignment. Can't say the same for Reggie Miller. This one is a draw.

i remember hearing that when he was coaching new york he was driving a beat up 94 accord... wasnt there some incident where the team's cars were damaged either during a game or while they were on the road? balki was inconsolable im sure...anyway they're both terrible

ah, found it. god bless this series of tubes

None hurt in airport mishap
Associated Press

HARRISON, N.Y. -- In an accident as the New York Knicks arrived home from Miami, a jet blast from their charter plane lifted coach Jeff Van Gundy's car airborne and sent it hurdling over three other vehicles.

Van Gundy's car, a 1995 Honda Civic, was "totally demolished," police said.

Also extensively damaged were Knicks guard Allan Houston's 1997 Mercedes, assistant coach Brendan Malone's 1999 Lincoln and the car belonging to the team's media relations director.

All four cars had been driven onto the tarmac at Westchester County Airport, near the team's suburban New York headquarters, as the charter arrived at 3 a.m. ET Thursday.

As the plane taxied toward that area, the pilot revved one of the engines in order to turn the plane. The blast sent Van Gundy's car spinning over the tops of the other cars.

"There were people out there, baggage people, people in other cars, limo drivers. So I'm just thankful the car just rolled on other cars," Van Gundy said. "It could have been a tragic thing."

With Van Gundy having no way to get home, a team employee drove him to the team's practice facility, where he slept on a couch in his office -- no doubt a fitful night pondering the Knicks' 87-81 loss to the Heat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

"I would have walked back from Miami if we would have won," he said.

Westchester County police spokesman Detective William Rehm said the Federal Aviation Administration had been called in to conduct a follow-up investigation.

"It's amazing the amount of force a jet blast can create," Malone said.

Van Gundy gets my vote. Although, Reggie Miller was one of my top 5 favorite players to no only watch play ball, but follow his life. Quite an inspirational life story. Like the above posters say, Van Gundy is always on point with his commentary, and is hilarious.
I especially like it when at the beginning of the games, the 3 broadcasters give their analysis of the upcoming game. Van Gundy waits almost like a stone statue, while the first guy talks, and when it comes his turn, he starts firing away like a bolt of lightning. So funny.

Its nice to be respectful of people's handicaps...

axl: Riots will be riots. I suppose they are everywhere; I heard reports about all kinds of arrests and shit after the Celtics victory. I just have it stuck in my head that its an LA thing ever since the '92 riots here.

As for commentators: Fucking Barkley all the way! He knows what he's talking about, he makes some damn good predictions, and he's not afraid to say whatever's on his mind. When it comes to reporting teams:
TNT > ABC
by miles and miles.

ABC is shit, and it's hard for me to agree that John Tesh might have wrote the most rockin' sports theme intro ever... because John Tesh most certainly DOESN'T rock.

I don't know if NBC had the best coverage or I am just nostalgic of that era and think they are the best due to the golden years of basketball.
