the official 08-09 NFL thread

I was pissed when I found out I was watching KC vs. Den for my day game with New England on a bye. But it was a really good game. I couldn't believe the problems that Cutler had with the secondary.

Chicago has that momentum back, they're really a strong team it's just that they have to keep it going in the fourth quarter instead of fucking up every game, with the exception of last night.

what's the difference between a really strong team who can't stay strong through an entire game, and a mediocre team?

2 and 2 is 2 and 2

what a GREAT Monday Night Football game. there were brawls, thugs, fights, injuries, and black eyes. that is my kind of football, the kind more akin to plundering steroid-laden beasts than anything else. this sport is the personification of the American doctrine.

the Steelers beat the Ravens in OT, but with many costs. Pittsburgh lost a good player on their already problematic O-line, and had to play the latter part of their game with a third string runningback - as Rashard Mendenhall broke his shoulder and is out for the season.

ATTN: Willie Parker - can you please get healthy? thanks in advance.

i thought pittsburgh was playing like utter shit for a good bit of the game. i also thought they should have went for the touchdown instead of the field goal in the fourth quarter. that would have assured the win.

i've been watching the firing of lane kiffin unfold in the news. al davis is a crazy, mean-spirited, old man.

lane kiffin is better off out of there. he's responded to this issue with class and professionalism.

yeah offensively the first half was rather difficult to watch. you have to take in account that Big Ben again, is playing injured and our star RB was out of commission. the Steelers played a football game that was a tale of two halves, and the most important and overlooked statistic of that game was that Big Ben was sacked 3 times in the first half and none times in the second half. O-line play is the most important aspect of football - games are won and lost in the trenches.

I thought about going for the touchdown, but with a Ravens defense THAT good, and with a Steelers offense sans Willie Parker - who know what could have happened? then, when they marched down and scored we would have lost. I do hate me some conservative football, but it truly is the most intelligent way to go about things most times.

San Diego is so loaded, they might not lose another game all season.

Playing at their best, they would run Dallas (or anyone) off the field.

And I'm certainly not the only one who thinks this - even with a 1-2 record, they're the 6:1 second favorite to WIN the Super Bowl.

Might wanna put a flier at 15:1 on the Colts while you're at it.

If you're a gambling (wo)man, that is.

Mark this post.

San Diego is full of world class athletes, I just don't think that Phillip Rivers can win the big game. however, by the looks of the AFC they can most definetely run the table. that division is truly for the taking this year.

The *BEST* TEAMS IN THE LEAUGUE, IN MY OPINION:

(01.) COLTS
(02.) COWBOYS
(03.) CHARGERS
(04.) TITANS
(05.) GIANTS
(06.) EAGLES
(07.) STEELERS
(08.) PATRIOTS
(09.) REDSKINS
(10.) JAGUARS

this quote was from derrick mason, wr for the ravens, about the colts.

"They jumped on us real bad. Honestly, you’ve got to tip your hat to them. They executed on every phase, special teams, offense, defense, cheerleaders, coaching, everything. And we didn’t.”

cheerleaders......lol

i'm not sure i'm ready to rank them #1 in the power rankings, but they're probably in my top 3.

also,

philip rivers has a weird throwing motion. it's kinda shot put-ish. he has no back swing.

Another week into the season. I'm curious if you'd keep the list as-is still or would you change it?

EDIT: If I had to decide 7 weeks in I'd say

(01.) STEELERS
(02.) GIANTS
(03.) BILLS
(04.) REDSKINS
(05.) TITANS
(06.) TAMPA BAY
(07.) CARDINALS
(08.) PANTHERS
(09.) COWBOYS
(10.) COLTS

dammit, looks like Santonio Holmes is suspended for this HUGE Giants/Steelers game because he was pulled over near the Penguins stadium, and his car smelled of pot, while he had a roach or two in the ash tray. looks like he is trying to bring the OSU partying mentality with him all the way to the pros.

when's the last time the Steelers played a game with their team full of their stars? it seems like every other week Willie Parker is down, then our 2nd string RB is out for the season, then our pro bowl nose guard, then someone gets in trouble for pot, then Polamalu almost misses because of a concussion...

please stay healthy and try not to get caught with the herbage.

How about the Rams? Talk about a turnaround. They've looked great since they switched coaches. 2 victories out of the last 3 with them almost beating the Patriots today. Bulger looked pretty good.

^ But they didn't beat them.

I won't lie though, they looked good especially since they had Stephen Jackson out with an injury. Avery is one hell of a WR.

that touchdown reversal in the chargers/ steelers game costed me 400 dollars

took back the run in, and then the fumble recovery.

BS
