Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

We can still talk about Covid. It's still a massive thing impacting so many people including myself very very heavily and lots of people are still coping with the stress and trauma and difficulty of it it's not just about statistics and emergency measures restrictions and never ending argument evidence proof duty brick wall head bash!

I'm definitely not ever going to be drawn into any type of argument about it though.

It's a part of life it's had a massive impact on me personally for sure in every aspect but also on the whole of our planetary Society so it's not something we are going to brush under the carpet, all said and done.

Worth reading through, I'll post some quotes. Later on there are some great paragraphs on the scientific method, censorship and how it's important for everyone to be able to read and think critically on scientific papers.
Several governments responded to the lethal pandemic by undermining the very systems that were in place to ensure accountability and to protect public health and well-being. No single individual can be blamed for this—it was a systemic problem, as decisions taken by one government or government agency instantaneously affected the decisions of others. But the result was the restriction of basic freedoms and the normalization of scapegoating and exclusion, both historically a prelude to atrocities. While some extreme actions were justified as efforts to achieve otherwise laudable goals (like increasing rates of vaccination), the attempt to isolate vast numbers of people while whipping the general population into agreement on aggressive public health policies probably damaged even these goals.

Some people, organizations, corporations, and lobbyists (or combinations thereof) saw this crisis as an opportunity to establish some version of a desired ideological utopia, which, in reality, benefited only a zealous minority confident in their “truth”, “science,” or whatever name they used to legitimate blind dogmas. In the end, half of the world’s working population suffered financially under lockdowns, creating massive ripple effects. Most people thrive when they can make their own decisions within the boundaries of the law, even during a crisis. But the loss of these basic freedoms was celebrated as a victory for public health, even as the loss of basic freedoms probably made public health outcomes worse in several countries. Many citizens of the United States and other democracies saw their businesses shutter, their life’s work disappear, and were not allowed to visit sick and dying loved ones or to even attend their burials. Younger generations were probably affected most, as students saw their schools close and their social lives thwarted with consequences we won’t fully understand for many years.

The worst way to address such circumstances is to double down on trying to replace concrete values like freedom and equality with goals like safety and health under the guise of “science” and the greater good. No reasonable person would question that all of these values and goals are worthy of our efforts. But when they clash (or are portrayed as clashing), democratic societies must make decisions on priorities. Once individual freedom has been downgraded as a priority, it is difficult to ever get back.

Concern about the manipulation of power and influence has also been exacerbated by the performance of media and social media. It is critical in free, democratic societies that media never become a vessel for a single, state-sanctioned, official narrative at the expense of public debate and freedom of speech. The same applies for social media: Removing content considered “fake” or “false” in order to limit the ability of ordinary people to judge information for themselves only inflames polarization and distrust of the public sphere.

One time I was driving with some people and was a little intoxicated, they asked me why I don’t ever wear a seatbelt, to which I responded “a captain goes down with his ship” ….that sums up how I feel about seatbelts

I worked with a man for years who flew through the windscreen and landed head first on the road. He didn't die. He has been severely disabled for decades.

I had covid, the first variant, needed to do 10 days of quarantine but no symptoms at all. Now the first shot of Moderna vaccine, need it for a travel to Europe. In a week I get the second shot, from the first only little muscle ache, hope the second goes well too. I didn't want to vaccinate but for every second day a test is too expensive so I decided to vaccinate nevertheless but insisted for a mRNA one. Afaik people are scared off this new tek and want the old virus material based vaccines but know shit about.

I agree, even when I myself drove in intoxicated - drugged, subjectively not impaired and dissociatives, not alcohol - state but in the end it's senseless risky and endangering other people.. I lost my license for this, correctly but the process one needs to go through for getting it back in Europe is retarded as well. Know of somebody who invested 10k+ and still no license.

Naloxone is nasty stuff indeed. Did you ever use it, does it just cancel out the opioids or induce the same agony I had by accidentally ingesting naloxone (snorted part of a tilidine/naloxone pill) when I didn't even have a opioid tolerance..
 
Almost 50% of accidents involving two cars are clearly one driver's fault. It's retarded because somebody else might kill you for no reason other than sheer stubbornness.

Wearing a mask sucks. I fucking hate wearing masks.

Not wearing a seat belt is stupid.

You might as well not cook chicken while you're at it.

I wore a mask this week, once. Nothing is even about Covid anyway.

I Was never antivax, became anti-covid-vax. If you can call it a vax at all.

Best matching rumor "some of the vaccines are left over flu shots being dumped out for cash, so sometimes they accidentally worked". This was actually true in some Asian countries where only China's vaccine was allowed and someone saw easy money. Over 1kUS$ per shot, which was a months wages or more.
