Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

It will go away if everyone just refuses to comply. What are they going to do, deputize Suzy the student waiter to make sure the Happy Hour crowd has had their nth booster?

talk to your local government rep.
I talked to a highly respected local rep. from the next county over a few years ago. My friend and I had this long conversation with him that touched on several different topics. When he wasn't busy sticking his finger in our face and pretending to be the most important person on Earth because his cell phone rang every few minutes he was basically calling us morons to our face.

When we got on the subject of fracking he dismissed every concern with the same tired line
You don't understand the science and you don't know what you're talking about
He was fully on board with allowing the gas companies into his county because he stood to make a lot of money off the deal. When concerned citizens forced him to address the issue at a local meeting he basically called them stupid. He compared their concerns to being concerned about aliens/ET coming down in UFOs to enslave us all.

I don't understand how someone so rude to the people he's supposed to represent keeps getting elected. He's managed to hold on to that seat for the last 15 years. I was going to link to the video of him calling everyone stupid at that meeting but it looks like he's managed to have it purged from the internet. That PR firm he hired must be working over time.

My point? A local rep. will not save you or listen to anything you have to say. If they're playing the game they're on the take. No one holds on to a seat without getting friendly with the other people sitting in them. Once they break into the club they get on board with the agenda or they get a bullet to the back of the head.

The primary use will be flight risks and people with court dates etc. The government won't put out a bolo or whatever they used to call it. Now they will just flag you no fly on your phone from their office, or turn off your right to buy drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

We will be fine with it because it will be easier to use, but the issues get crazy once all the government departments start adding restrictions. Maybe overweight people wouldn't be allowed in McDonalds because obesity costs society same as Covid.

And how many were actually in hospital because of COVID?

Over here, this is what actually happens -

[Health minister] Christine Elliott said 54% were admitted for COVID-19 and 46% tested positive after being admitted for other reasons
Wouldn't that effect both vaccinated and unvaccinated patients equally then? If anything it should make the vaccine look less protective.

How did I sell myself out?
Why can't I work?

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, I went to work sick today. Symptoms didn't fit COVID and I wasn't working with anyone vulnerable. As the shift went on, my symptoms became worse. On the way home, I stopped into a bunch of pharmacies to try and find a rapid antigen test but they're all fucking sold out. Typical. How much can Australia fuck up? (Let me count the ways.)

So, the antigen tests are sold out. Fine. I drive myself to a fucking testing site so I can sit there - again - for a couple of hours with my thumb up my ass. This is my life now... except, hold on, the fucking testing sites are all closed down due to "overwhelming demand".

So, I'm not allowed to go to work unless I get tested... but there are no tests available?

This is getting fucking stupid.

No, it was fucking stupid last year.

This is downright retarded.

I found someone I know with a box of RATs, luckily.

you said yesterday that you weren't allowed to go to work until you were testied

same in Canada. Worst of all, the healthcare system isn't being overrun, but that's still the perception being fostered.

since 2022 started I have noticed a sharp uptick in both politicians and newsmedia dehumanizing the unvaccinated.

more doctors are fortunately starting to speak up about how unethical it would be to discriminate against people based on vax status. the elephant in the room here is that, if you were to discriminate against the unvaccinated, why not discriminate the same way against self-inflicted diseased caused by poor lifestyle?

hmm let's see. probably because living healthy means no money spent on pharma, while mandatory vaccines mean we're being dragooned into this nice little mafia racket run by the pharmaceutical companies.

nice little livelihood you've got there, would be a shame if something happened to it...
What's going on in Canada and Auz is a disgrace. Seems like every other day I see something that tops what I saw before.

The scapegoating and segregating of the unjuiced (no one is actually vaccinated because these are not vaccines) is both ridiculous and outrageous. There's absolutely no logic or science behind it what so ever, it is purely immoral and political behaviour. It's revealing just how many people have fallen for it and I don't think these people will ever not be reminded of their complete failure, once the dust settles. As for the politicians and media hacks who propagated it, I don't think the public will be as forgiving to them.. and I hope not too. They deserve to be strung up for it, because they know history, because they know exactly what this kind of rhetoric can lead to, and a message needs to be sent to future politicians that this won't be tolerated.

It has reduced spread and massively reduced hospitalizations and deaths.
Easy to claim it has done something without any real proof of it. You can't repeat the circumstances again to test that hypothesis, so how can you make the statement it has reduced these things when they may have occurred anyway?

I do not believe the pharmaceutical marketing. I think they have collusion with the government and media to help push their shitty products and bamboozle the public with shoddy statistics to make it appear they've done a good job. Mafia racket.

When they can't even admit to and discuss the level of adverse effects and deaths caused by their products, how on earth can you trust anything that comes out of their mouths?! They are clearly peddling gold plated horseshit.

If we're going down that path, nothing can be proved and all discussion is meaningless.

They literally publish data on adverse effects.

Serious adverse affects (as reported all over the world) are rare. Deaths are around one in a million to four in a million, according to the data which is the only thing we have to go by. Anecdotal evidence is irrelevant.

If the data is wrong for some reason, how do you know which direction the error is being made. Perhaps the adverse reactions are being over reported. Perhaps they are being under reported. If I am to assume one way or the other, there needs to be a reason.

Meanwhile and in other news on the topic (and just to add some fuel to the debate):

How did I sell myself out?
Why can't I work?

I have no idea what you're talking about.
I assume he means you tested pos? By that.

When you coulda just kept quiet(?)

Because everybody in your workplace has been dub/treb jabbed right?

Do the vaccines offer protection? Or not?

If you have it again, then that's one no.

If you are a transmission risk to work colleagues....then no again?

??

I am sorry man if you are feeling sick. Hope it passes.

But seriously. You lot keep showing "numbers" and graphs, insisting "the vaccines work".

I see enormous contradiction and incongruitiy here?

I'm not picking or pointing, in no personal way here. Just sharing these thoughts, part of the discussion.

If I have this skewed, fair enough. I'm open to correct, correction always lol.

No, I don't. I have repeatedly said I don't think vaccines are the solution anymore and that I do not believe they are very effective against curbing the spread of omicron. They do reduce the risk of death and they did significantly reduce the transmission of delta.

I have changed my attitude towards vaccines, somewhat, but that doesn't mean I have to backtrack on anything I've said because omicron is a different virus.

Do the vaccines offer protection? Or not?

There is a simple answer to this that has been provided to you and others repeatedly throughout this discussion.

It is not 0% or 100%. That is not how vaccines work.

Do the vaccines offer significant protection from omicron?
That depends on what you think is significant.

When I said that you lot bit, actually that was non specific, wide.

I recognise that too. You have defended, argued, debated, reasoned your position.

And displayed as much openess and consideration as I expect you can reasonably allow, without abolishing belief systems.

Not flashing stats and graphs "in our faces".

So I wasn't pointing a finger at you on that.

But you have said many times, the vaccines work!

I still see here an atrocious incongruity though.

Ev'one's fully jabbed.

You still have it. Can't go to work in case you transmit to all others, also jabbed.

Now come on you have to admit that is the virtual opposite of the prognosis and promise we were presented with initially as the way out of this pushing aside the convoluted in my view arguments to suggest that the problem is the unvaccinated still because that does not affect the efficacy of these jobs and your current situational paradigm.

@birdup I am not in any slight way against YOU my friend, please do keep in mind for me. I'm just dead open, direct with you.

Not flippant, nor antagonistic. Playful maybe, in a bantering way.

I have lost my head again and am making very poor example around. Too intense it has been of late. I can't even go into details (phew lol).

You're alright, AT.
No offense taken.

I don't admit anything of the sort. There were a couple of idiots in government positions that said erroneous things about the vaccines, but they (the vaccines) were never advertised as x% effective against a strain that didn't exist when they were manufactured.

I may have COVID. I get the results of my PCR tomorrow or the next day, depending on how busy they are. I assume I have it. My symptoms are very mild. Perhaps they would be the same without the vaccine, but I doubt it. Maybe this isn't even COVID and it's just a coincidence there was another outbreak at work.

I work in an industry that constantly has outbreaks. I didn't get vaccinated to ensure that I avoid contracting COVID. I have always been aware that I can get it and transmit it.

The cases are exploding in Australia and many other countries. Our hospitals will be overwhelmed. It's just a matter of time. The more people vaccinated, the better. That's what the data says.

I would get a fourth jab right now if I was legally allowed.

If getting vaccinated doesn't prevent catching, being sick (Covid was mild to me already no vaccine), or spreading it and you can't work and must be isolated, how is it doing anything!?

if seat belts don't prevent you being in a car crash, getting injured, but you still can't drive without one, how are they doing anything?

vaccines make you less likely to contract covid, less likely to get seriously ill, and less likely to transmit it.

Please shouldn't you be working or actually providing a real answer. Perhaps it was effective against the original Covid we are talking now not 2 year old data. Please protection appears zero from the public perspective.

What exactly is the perceived amount of lessening of the spreading if we must still isolate?
The lessening of the sickness if the numbers say same thing for hospitalizations?
The help with the economy if we are just killing it because we fear a phantom?

Please wake up you seem smarter than this. Once upon a time it kinda sorta made you less sick now it kinda sorta doesn't do fuck all.

Or we could imprison those who disagree? Make them not work even when they aren't sick!
