Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

I'll read whatever numbers you provide. I've been having the same discussion with many people over the past year or so, including lots of people IRL and even some people on Facebook. So far, nobody has been able to explain to me why the vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths are among the unvaccinated in Australia when the vast majority of people are vaccinated.

There is a pattern in discussions with anti-vaxxers. I ask them something specific and they reply about something else entirely... or, at best, they zoom out and say something generic that totally avoids the question at hand.

There is too much data to casually examine and make uneducated offhand conclusions about efficacy. If we can jump from Sweden to NSW to Florida at a second's notice, the discussion will never end.

It's best to focus on a particular area.

This is what I propose: you choose an area and I'll choose one.

We can discuss numbers in the context of those two areas.

Krinkle challenged me on a US state a while back and I analysed the data and it was consistent with my perspective. If I fail to see a flaw in your argument and I acknowledge a flaw in my own, I will admit defeat.

It's not realistic to expect a large populous to suddenly become healthy. Bad habits can take years to break. I do agree people should be healthier. Obesity is a big problem in Australia. So-called "fat shaming" is absolutely insane. KFC should refuse to serve obese people. If they're going to put warnings on cigarettes, they should put warnings on Big Macs too.
If you can't look after your own health properly that is your fault, no one else's. Why should people like me be punished for putting the effort in to be healthy, whilst some vaxd tub of shit gets priority? This is what is happening with the vax pass, completely arbitrary segregation that is not actually based on health at all.

Should people who develop lung cancer as a result of smoking be provided with minimum healthcare... or none at all?

What about people who neglect exercise - but are not fat - and need opiates for pain relief because of incurable spinal injuries that build up over decades?

EDIT: I don't believe in free will. The way I say things: everybody who sins is lost. They are victims of their fate. We all roll the dice. Some people get lucky. Others don't. I don't like to condemn those who don't, whether they are gluttons or addicts.

Yeah, fair enough. Vax passes are fucking stupid. I'm glad they are getting rid of them in Melbourne. Enough people are vaccinated. I don't give a shit any more. I'm tired of checking in and showing proof of vaccination.

I'm glad we can agree on that. If you want the jab, your choice. If you don't want it, your choice. And that's where it should end, it all should end, and we accept personal responsibility now and just open up again.

It also makes less sense to me for our entire society to lockdown than it does for the vulnerable people to lockdown. The least vulnerable people are being locked down by vax passes and that's stupid too. There are - always - lots of fuck ups, but that doesn't mean the people who are fucking up are evil. I fuck up sometimes. Everyone does. That just means you're human.

I am pro-vax but I also want to stop with the masks and the passports and all of this bullshit. I have had three jabs. I will have four. I will have five, if they want me to. But, enough is enough with the fucking masks.

The rules are: you have to wear masks when entering a cafe but not when sitting down. Once you have been allocated a table, you no longer have to wear a mask.

At this point they should have conducted studies proving how effective these measures are because, frankly, some of them are fucking retarded and everyone knows it. Even the people who are paid to enforce this bullshit knows it's bullshit.

Australia has been jabbed up the ass till a week from Thursday and we deserve a God damned break.

Absolutely!! It's all so inverted. You don't punish healthy people who aren't ill, you protect those who are in danger which we know are the elderly and vulnerable.

The only point where I disagree is the bit about people being evil. You could excuse the politicians to begin with when we didn't know so much, but now we have enough understanding to see what we really should be doing.. and it's not vax passes, segregation, and scapegoating. The longer this goes on the less plausible 'incompetence' becomes as an explanation, and the more plausible explanation becomes they are being forced by another person/group to implement these measures. Why would they knowingly implement these things when the science even shows it's completely pointless? It doesn't make any sense, especially because there is the real possibility of violence or rebellion if they keep on down this path!

They need some god damn tegridy.

It makes sense, if you consider the cultural climate. All sorts of people (politicians, comedians, etc) are terrified to accidentally commit career suicide. They don't care if the science adds up. They can't stop. This isn't evil. It's just the cogs of the machine turning. We always have a certain momentum. You can either go with the flow or die trying to stop it.

We're going overboard with COVID, for sure. Crazy overboard. But, it's noble what we're trying to do. For the first time in history we're trying to save everyone, ignoring the fact that doing so is potentially at the expense of everyone... there's something romantic about it.

Hippies piss me off, but I like love as much as the next guy.

See, I could buy that as explanation if it were just one nation doing this - maybe it is true, I cant' say I know. But I will say I believe there is more going on here than just the momentum of the moment, and I think there is a group who are pulling the strings who understand how momentum works in a time of hysteria/crisis. On the surface it looks like the politicians are reacting a certain way due to circumstance, but in actuality they are being pulled at key moments by an external party.

I mean fuck, we have Tony Blair openly calling for vax passes and to control everyone digitally. This guy is not dim, he is highly intelligent and openly malicious in his intentions. If there's one like him there's certainly more!

I'm flying tomorrow. And masks are still required at all points of travel. I asked my mom who gets to decide that airports no longer require masks. I felt it should be left up to the airport and the airline. She said CDC. TSA or FAA maybe. But I feel these governmental agencies need to be shut down. ASAP. They will eventually run out of money or at least the ability to transfer wealth with a dollar. So it's a slow suffocation. I feel it needs to happen sooner.

So the J&J is no longer recommended…what if in a couple months they say Pfizer is not recommended, orrrr what if when the new novavax vaccine comes out and they say all the first line vaccines are no longer recommended …science is always changing ya know

Always always keep in mind, and entirely overlooked all too often IMO, recommendations are only EVER that. Recommendations.

You can just about literally recommend anything even if you only do so by sporting it somehow.

It doesn't have to mean anything except influence.

Typical anti-Vaxxerer snowflake. You are being unscientific & hysterical. I'm on my 5th AstraZeneca BoosterJabb. After the 3rd Jabb there was a tiny eeny-weeny bit of Thrombosis starting in my legs the following week. Just nibbled on some Ratsak pellets until the clots dissolved and no problem.
You're worried about nothing. You IDIOT !! My mate ate a Ratsak wax-block preemptively, one hour before getting his 2nd booster-jabb, to fend off another Pulmonary Embolism, and it worked a treat. This isn't rocket science.
