You know nothing of the West you live in Australia right?
Australia is by pretty much every definition of a Western liberal democracy with the majority of its legal and government institutions inherited from Great Britain.
So pretty Western. I’ve also got pretty good training in pre-European Graeco-Roman history (which I read on both Latin and Ancient Greek at school, the history of Christianity, and European political history as well as philosophy from the pre-socratics to the Frankfurt School. So even if Australia not Western I can probably offer informed opinions on what ‘The West’ is.
I live where people fly “Don’t tread on me” and “We The People” flags from trucks filled with shotguns and rifles. I live 45 minutes from the harbor in which the Boston Tea Party took place, and in a town full of rich history regarding the birth of America.
Boston is a great city and I learned a lot about that rich history when I spent a few months nearby in Cambridge several years ago. If I lived in the US it’s where I’d like to live.
A nation founded on freedom.
On a version of freedom. There are many theories and philosophies about what genuine human freedom is. Absence of government authority and lots of firearms is a pretty narrow conception of what it truly means to be free. But I accept it is seen by many people to be crucial.
America was also founded in significant part on slavery and dispossession in an economic sense - which incorporated a lot of unfreedom for a lot of human beings.
Do you know the definition of a sociopath?
A mental health disorder characterized by disregard for other people.
By trying to wake up others and warn them of the dangers of vaccines, what part of that points to a disregard for other people?
A sociopath wouldn’t be on this forum warning others, they wouldn’t give a shit either way.
I’ll concede your point there based on that definition of sociopathic. I’ve already mentioned that I am confident your beliefs are deeply held and that you are acting in good faith on that basis.
You know why you’re so compliant? Cause all you aussies are too pussy to stand up to the tyranny you are currently facing. You already let them disarm you. You guys are fucked.
We have one of the highest standards of living in the world by just about every measure. Importantly we have excellent social mobility, high wages, low inequality, and high levels of social cohesion.
What additional value would a right to bear arms bring to the quality of life of your average Australian? If you want to hunt or target shoot you can obtain a weapon. I’ve done lots of both and the process was simple. We simply have no threats that warrant being armed for self-protection.
I’ll die with a gun in my hand and a smile on my face fighting just like those who came before me.
BECAUSE FREEDOM ISNT FREE
I’m really curious who exactly you are going to shoot? Under what circumstances? Where do you draw the line between taking a life and preserving freedom?
Seriously, what aspect of freedom would you be prepared to kill someone for? I simply cannot imagine any situation where I could kill someone short of protecting my own life or the life of an innocent person facing imminent criminal homicide.
