That's what he SHOULD have said, rather than saying "right now there's no reason for people to be walking around wearing masks"

I'm not into hatred or wild conspiracy theories either, I just think that it's a serious error in judgement on his part. Again, and I can't stress this enough: this was not simply a case of guidance being revised as additional data became available. THAT would have been completely understandable. This was a case of the the government KNOWING something to be true (i.e., that the virus was primarily spread through the air and thus that masks have at least the potential to mitigate that to some degree), and then INTENTIONALLY trying to deceive and mislead the public. That's what Fauci was trying to do, and that's what the surgeon general was attempting to do with that post on social media.

We know for a fact that the government knew what the nature of this disease was as early as February 7th, 2020, because Trump discussed the nature of the disease transmission with a journalist at that time*. We also know that from VERY VERY early in the pandemic some nations (in east Asia, for example) were drawing the appropriate lessons from SARS in 2003 and advising that people wear masks in an attempt to reduce transmission. So the nature of the problem and a potential way of mitigating the problem were apparent pretty much from day 1, yet people in Trump's administration felt the need to BS the American people instead of shooting straight with them.

That's understandable (although not excusable) with Trump...he's been a con-man all his life and that's all he'll ever be most likely. It's far less understandable with other public servants like Fauci, the surgeon general etc. It undermines trust in institutions and that's a big part of the reason that there's such fertile ground for bullshit artists, conspiracy theorists and all of the others who've been giving us all headaches lately

COVID has just fucked everyone over. Pretty much everyone has become a more extreme version of themselves, you see it in politicians, media, people, myself too.

i particularly dislike the role media played in all of this, they were pretty much a direct mouthpiece for every Western government. Originally, they were searching for ways that everyone would listen and follow the rules, and with the help of psychologists and the media they did exactly this.
But throughout the pandemic, it seemed like no mainstream outlets returned to what they're supposed to be, namely the fourth power. So like any dissenting voice that even remotely questioned the directions and decisions either never got any attention, or was simply attacked into oblivion, while probably asking for censoring/stepping down as well.

I'm sure this is the main cause of people being more extreme against COVID and vaccines, I understand faith in the media in the US was already low but this wasn't as much the case in Europe. But they bungled all of this so hard that there almost seems no way back. There doesn't even seem to be any indication that they even remotely understand this or wanna change directions.

How do you know it's preventing healthcare workers from catching something? This is the problem you see, everyone already assumes aerosol transmission, and transmission itself, is actually a reality without having first confirmed it. We get ill after being around someone else who is ill and assume something was transmitted between, but correlation is not causation.

If SARS-NCov-2 is a completely novel respiratory virus, which it supposedly is, then it should affect everyone because no one should have any resistance to its novelty. But that isn't what has happened. The predominant groups are the very elderly and those with comorbidities.

It's a mirage and a mass delusion. I have been associating with someone who works in a school, which has had cases continuously throughout. Neither of us have gotten ill, and neither of us have infected family members either.

yeah but he DID say that in the video, I was quoting him verbatim, it's in the video - you are talking about two different time points in the video

I was quoting him directly from the video when I posted the 3 statements, its not my opinion, he said it in the video

Man, I follow you for the first bit - but once you get to intentionally misleading the public... like I explained, politicians do it all the time, but ultimately misleading for what goal? what was his goal here?

I feel like you're implying some grand evil scheme.... but the way I rationally see it is he was misleading if only to calm the public, prevent panic, and direct all needed resources to hospitals where they're needed most. No other goal than that... and that doesn't seem very evil or worth high criticism to me when compared to normal politics.

I mean, just make me understand why you think his intentions are so evil (or worth that implication)? where is the evil in all this? where is the need for extreme criticism in this?

whether or not he lied his goal was pure and rational?

At that time various people were scalping masks... and hospitals didn't have enough... so what's the ultimate issue you have here??? he was saving the public from itself if anything! Isn't that what government is for?
