The air was warm as the grass was soft
and the late afternoon sun carssed her fair face.
There was a hint of a breeze which blew gentle kisses
through her slightly mussed hair.
And the world seemed full of grace.
The park was a smoothie of sounds,
blending the barking of dogs
and the laughing of little ones,
with the thump thump of a soccer ball hitting the ground.
The birds were sweetly singing
the electrical wires were faintly ringing
and she felt like she had come home.
Had she been walking forever? And why?
To find freedom, liberation, escape...
but it only made her feel more alone.
Now at last she sat, and as if in a dream,
the chains of bondage round her heart seemd cut from their leash.
And in her ear, when no one was near,
it whipsered softly:
the invitation for peace.
She must, she can, she will
carry on
though the sun will set and the chains will return
before long.
But caught in a moment
she can glimpse her destiny:
to laugh, to love, to live.
For in her writing, she can set herself free.

When the world seems to be smothering you, and the clouds are surrounding you, do you ever have a moment? A moment when the sun breaks through the clouds for just a few seconds, and the beauty of the earth is illuminated before you. And suddenly all your problems seem to vanish and you feel your heavy heart become light in your chest, and you smile inside. You feel a few seconds of peace. I had one of those this week, watching the sun set in a park. Those moments keep me alive and remind me that I AM strong within myself. And to keep on going.
