I don't think so, although it's self-evident that their position on any given topic is whatever their leader says it is.

It's the fact that we have no metrics to guage the risks that is problematic.

As recently as April 14 2025 the US security services had concluded that Iran was not attempting to built nuclear weapons. But after this, if the Iranian government survives, it's almost certain they WILL produce and test a nuclear weapon. To prove they can and that until now they had shown restraint.

Would Israel have launched the attack if Iran HAD nuclear weapons? I don't know.

Proliferation is inevitable now. But there have been wars with nuclear armed states in which nuclear weapons were not used.

Like the invasion of Afghanistan, I suspect in years to come we will look back and wonder who it was who thought it a good idea...

Religious extremism, like, say, a state in which certain rights are exclusively given to the Jewish population and in which others who were native to the land are ethnically cleansed from it in an ever growing area (now larger than the people inserted there had ever incorrectly believed that they had claim to)? Similar to isreal?
 
I know that most of Iran's nuclear facilites are deep underground and it's known that Israel didn't have enough 'bunker busters' in the recent past to meaningfully damage those facilities so it seems a decapitation strike is what they are going for. Did they get a stack of bunker busters recently? Well if they DID, only the US could have supplied them.

As one commentator suggested 'maybe religious people really DO believe that a miricle will occur?' but it was their opinion that while the power supply to the centrifuges was hit, the centrifuges were not and the stored 60% uranium almost certainly still there.

So IF the Iranian regime survives, expect them to build a test device, set it off in some desert in Iran to show they can and also to make the Iranian public feel some confidence that their military has some 'teeth'. Now miniturization is an issue as is mating any such design to one of the ballistic missiles Iran IS developing but do you think Iranian scientists haven't designed everything to allow a very rapid 'break out'?

Don't forget, the Japanese joke about having 'a bomb in the basement' because they could break out just as fast as Iran. I don't know if other nations are in that position, but if a regime feels ONLY nuclear weapons will stop them being attacked... isn't it logical that they will ensure they have them?

Republicans are split between traditional neo con war hawks like Ted Cruz and isolationist anti war types like Tucker Carlson. (At least the current form of Tucker Carlson, lol.)

IF it turns out that the US recently supplied 'bunker busters' to Israel, that WILL surface quite soon.

I forgot to mention that Iran is the world leader in hardened concrete. In the war in Ukraine, it was noted that the US-supplied ATACAMS did penetrate the shelters Russia built to store it's aircraft, they produced only small neat holes. Now it's uncertain how much if any extra protection that concrete provided, Iran remains the world leader and I feel sure will NOT have exported it's best designs so while bunker busters may drill down through 200 feet of soil, the Iranians know of such weapons and WILL have done the work to try to mitigate their utility.

So if all a bunker buster does is to destory a small section of an underground complex - it's gonna take a LOT of them to have a meaningful effect.

I'm not taking sides - I'm just making people aware that the information is out there so we can at least make a better judgement than we could without said data.
