Travel The MEGA Travel Thread!

A few pics of the eastern Alps around the border from eastern Tirol into Corinthia, and on the boarder of Austria/Italy.

Some really beautiful places out there guys and gals =). Remember to do your best to preserve them!

That last picture of from the retreating glacial tongue of the Grossgloeckner (the LARGEST glacier in the eastern Alps). Since the 1980s this glacier has shrunk an astounding amount. The locals are terribly sad, and say that the overall melt continues in winter even with new snow above.

A friend hiked PCT last year and took a leave of absence from his Cisco job. Said it was the best decision he ever made and gave him some new found perspective on work and life.

Yeah, I hear its gorgeous. My husband spent a lot of time on the pct a few year ago and loved it.

The photos of the Alps are BEAUTIfUL!!
The Italian/Austrian border near Switzerland was by far my favorite mountain area as far as wow factor when I visited.

Some pictures from the small amount of hiking i did during 2013 in Europe; would really like to do more.

Valais canton, Switzerland.. overlooking Lac Des Vaux just above a town called Verbier.

Already planning my first backpacking trip this year. Im thinking of a bog loop starting from Florence lake down through Evolution Valley and then back up through Dusty Basin. I will be all new territory for me, about 85 miles. I think I can pull it off in 6 days, maybe even 5 if I hurry.

Slight modification to the route. I think I may suck it up and do the long drive all the way to Bishop on the eastern side of the sierras and do a loop like this one.

The pics in that album are pretty terrible, but this is supposed to be one of the most scenic and remote areas in the sierras, just my cup of tea. Its about a 54 mile loop, Im guessing it will take me about 4 days if I hurry, although if I can get some more time off work I would love to stop and explore some of the areas ill be going through (humphreys basin, dusty basin and evolution valley to name a few).

Can it be summer yet?

Been busy, and been feeling in more of a biking mood. Over easter we are planning on doing some hiking in the Inntal. I hope the weather keeps on track being a month ahead.

That said, the forest where I walk my dog isn't too shabby either. I'm usually on less beaten pathes than this, but it is still not a bad shot with the colors and whatnot.

If you could only visit one place

Besides where you live, if you could only visit one other place in your entire life where would it be? We're talking an all expenses paid trip to anywhere in the world.

somewhere i could kill myself in style, cuz a life with no travel ain't a life i'd want to live.

Do you only get to go there once or do you get an unlimited number of trips to that destination?

Cause I'm with thujone. If it's the only trip I get to take it's for my death (or to emigrate). If I get to go over and over I could find somewhere cool though.

I'm not really sure what the confusion is, let me try again... You have the opportunity to only travel to one place for the rest of your life, a one time thing, all expenses paid and then flown back to where you live.

I think I would go with Iceland. Fuck Tahiti. :\

Tokyo. Shibuya Bus Station, specifically.

Because I've played Jet Set Radio.

Definitely Japan. But if it were an all expenses paid trip, I'd want it to be a tour of the country, where I could see everything there is worth seeing. Or at least, I'd like to get to see some different volcanoes there.
