The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

FUCK FRODO!

Agent Smith would take out the whole fellowship with a quickness!

Bring on the new Matrix

<However even though I don't like LOTR I must admit that trailer looked badass>

(Me at "Matrix: Reloaded")

"Cool computer effect!"

"Hey - see that computer effect?"

"Wow! That nearly looked like it wasn't a computer effect."

"Gee a whole bunch of Smiths - what annoying computer effects."

"Do you think we could have a couple shots without computer effects?"

It absolutely failed to pull me in to any level of believability. Talk about letting technology completely overpower the ability to tell a story.

It was okay to see once.

There's some pretty cool clips of The Return of the King on the Two Towers bonus disc, too!

All I can say is WOW thats what you call a trailer, it shows just enough but doesn't give you the whole movie plot in 2.5 minutes. the pacing was great the music was great I honestly can't wait to see this movie if for no other reason than to see shelob, matrix is probably gonna be good but the difference between the two, LOTR uses CGI to help a story along not base its entire movie around a hey look how good we can make the effects ala the matrix, they both are good on their own meritt but LOTR looks HELLA cool, all I know is that for 12 hours on the 17th I am gonna watch movies, I figure start out with fellowship when I wake up, two towers in the afternoon then go watch rotk in the evening

Whaaaaaa?

Someone tell me The Return of the King isn't 6 hours long???

^Honestly, I think it's going to be much longer than the last two. If you're using the books as a guideline, they left out a significant portion off the end of the Two Towers. :\

I'm expecting at least three and a half hours out of this next one, otherwise I have no idea how much they're going to cut out.

If they leave out the return to the Shire I'm going to be pissed.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER*

^^^
Dude I was JUST thinking this today.

The return to the shire is a good fucking portion of the book, and its an awesome part too!

But I have faith that they won't totally cripple Tolkein's ending by leaving that stuff out.

sorry the reason I say 12 is figure I'm gonna watch the extended edition both are rounding out to 3 and half hours, theres 7 and rumor has it that ROTk will be knocking on 4, so theres almost 11 and then figure in eating and all that stuff, yeah 12 hours of my day will be spent revolving around the world of tolkein

Step aside Matrix 3, Lord of the kings 3 will be the movie of the year. I was disappointed with Star Wars 1&2, The Matrix 2 while both LOTR's have been outstanding.

Seems to me that the scouring of the shire is not a part of the movies.

Rightly so... even though it's important to the book, it wouldn't feel right on screen. The destruction of the ring is the climax of three movies - another hour of denoument would be too much.

I completely disagree.

The situation in the shire upon their return leads up to Frodo's condition which causes Frodo to do what he does at the very end (like the LAST two pages). If they skip the shire then it just wouldn't seem to fit right, at least in my mind.

Anyways, I don't want to get TOO in depth about this since a buncha people prolly haven't read the book who are reading this, so I'm just going to leave it at that and hope for the best.

Yeah, in the book there is excellent reason for the lengthy ending. But would it play well on screen?

I doubt it. After the big climax, everybody's gonna be ready to go home.

well it would leave some untied ends. perhaps they could at least have a narration of the endstory over still photos - that wouldn't take long, could be done well, and would leave time for the final few pages of the book.

I think the return to the Shire MAY be in the Director's cut if anything at all... I, being a hardcore Tolkein fan, will be really disappointed if it is not in the original movie, but in a theatrical sense, it doesn't fit in the movie. The movies have been very action oriented and not very epic in the traditional sense. The general public will not realize how important and meaninful the return to the shire is to the original storyline.

One of the biggest reasons I believe it will be cut from the movie, is that the initial scenes in the Shire were cut down tremendously from what were in the books. There was no development with Frodo and Bilbo and their relationships to the other members of the Shire. The Shire is simply a hometown in the movies, a place to return to once the evils have been defeated. In the books, it was much more than that, it was a place with many stories to tell and a lot of history. The books fleshed out the town much more, and were reference throughout the story as a whole. I think if anything, the return to the Shire will be a 5-10 minute "wind down" after the climax of the war and the destruction of the ring. Frodo and Sam will return to the Shire, show them rebuilding, and most likely show them a few years down the road with family/friends. I really hope the Director's cut will show some of the events that happened in the book. In particular, the defeat of The Boss and his gang of thugs (you all know who he really is). I'd love to see the Hobbits kickin some thug ass, but I'm not gettin my hopes up.

The return to the Shire has to be in the theatrical release. Throughout both of the previous movies there has been much talk from the hobbits about going back, and when can we go back, why did we leave?, we'll go back soon... et cetera...

So they have to come full circle and show the return to the Shire...

Like I said above, it will most likely be in the theatrical release, but very shortened. It was a HUGE part of the book, and I know it won't be in the movie...it is just a little disappointing, thats all.

some websites have already said the final run time will be close to 3 hrs and 45 minutes, hard on the bladder yes but I for one don't care, it probably will be in the movie as it does have great importance but maybe like 5 to 10 minutes in the theater with an extended version on the directors cut dvd, all I know is the theater 5 blocks down from me is suppose to show all three movies so my plans might change, cause they are suppose to start fotr at 4 , ttt at 8 and rotk at midnight, I might do that instead,
