I wrote this poem for my wife about a year ago. She's been extra caring for me lately as I've been a bit depressed, so I thought I'd share it to say to the world this is my lovely wife, she is my rock.
The Light in the Darkness
A turbulent sea of despair surrounds me.
Who am I?
Why is there always so much pain?
Am I simply fated to lonliness?
In the distance,
A ray of light,
Of hope,
A chance to make it away from all this.
A chance to escape all of the pain.
I didn't know it,
That you were my future,
That you truly would become,
The physical manifestation of all that is good,
And righteous.
Reserved,
Quiet,
Shy and contemplative.
I had no idea.
My nature is to destroy,
The self,
Others,
My relationships.
Yours is to stand fast,
To fight against the current,
The turbulent ocean of despair,
The self-loathing.
You showed me the way.
No matter how far I fall,
No matter how far I sink,
You always pull me back,
Out of that dark sea.
An island oasis among an overwhelming darkness.
I thought I knew,
Myself,
The world,
Humanity.
But I knew nothing.
You showed me the way,
And to this day,
You always hold onto me,
And keep me from the sea.
