The light and the darkness

And, practically speaking, our eyes eventually become acclimated to the dark-- vision without light, no need for the candles...

Our eyes also become adapted to the light, without the need of darkness. The light is blinding to someone who gets used to the darkness,

I'm sorry, but what's the point of this thread, what's it getting to? What does the 'light' or 'darkness' mean anyways?

non-duality, and man's (often, mistakenly) tiresome quest for enlightenment

The search for a higher awareness and the struggle for something greater is what our existence thrives on. Where do you think we would be at if the cavemen accustomed to living in the dark? We sure wouldn't be able to be discussing it on BlueLIGHT thats for sure :p

The darkness isn't literal...

The cavemen surely survived, and we've evolved technologically up to this very day, but we've started to devolve as emotional, spiritual human beings.

I believe this thread is about one's dependency on habit. We are dependent on things being the way that they are or ought to be, when life is forever changing. God put us here so that we can grow up and mature, this maturity is non attachment. If one goes about his business in life clinging to this or to that, he is like a big baby, never satisfied until he gets his way. A baby is attached to warm milk and will not have any milk any other way. A baby is attached to his favorite stuffed animal and will not cuddle with any other one. You see how this works? and as we grow up, we may learn a few things, but we still remain attached. sure we are attached to a car instead of a hot wheel, or we are attached to our mates as we are our stuffed animals, but what we need to do is grow up and stop being attached to our likes and dislikes. One may like the light or the dark, attachment is all the same.

In the OP, the kid was attached to having the light on, and so he was always reaching for the light. The problem was that the kid was imagining monsters, or that his ego was playing a trick on him. The trick his ego was playing was that the monsters would attack him in the darkness and so the light had to be on. Attachment means hanging on to the ego, allowing the ego to have its way and being attached to its certain way of doing things. Non attachment means to resist the ego and its routines by not doing anything, or by flowing in another direction. If my ego is calling for me to do something, i will be non attached by not doing it or doing something else. This is the way.

Makes sense. Thinking about it, the more we progress with technology, the more we are probably devolving spiritually as a whole society. People are becoming more attached to materialistic 'things' and less involved with real nature. But how do we change that? :\

I disagree. I do not think that because we are advancing technologically we are devolving spiritually. I think quite the contrary. Because we are advancing so fast technologically, we are more apt to evolve spiritually. The problem lies not in technology but our attachment to the technology and abuse of its power. Thereon the problem lies in us, but not technology. I believe technology is an expansion of "the self" and what spirituality is all about, is sharing this experience called life with one another with love and non attachment. We may use technology to help share our experiences and joys with each other, as well as information and this is helping us advance spiritually. For example the internet, we use this as we speak and we are speaking on truths to help each other grow in a positive direction. How is this devolving us as a species? I submit to you that it is helping us! Another example would be the camera, the camera can take pictures that bring us great joys happiness, sure it may not be absolutely liberating, but kindle the soul it does. Life is a dance, a certain special and responsible celebration.

We can change this by learning to use the technology instead of letting the technology use us. This requires non attachment. With non attachment one may still use things, but when he is doen with it he sets it down and continues on.

That is a good point... I guess I'm apt to get sucked in too much, even though I don't own an iPhone, have a Twitter account, or own a TV...

sure but first...

you got to get sent to a slam, where they tell you you'll never see daylight again. You dig up a doctor, and you pay him 20 menthol Kools to do a surgical shine job on your eyeballs.

Not evryone whos been incarcerated has succumbed to the insanity of deprivation. i knew many (including myself) who have gotten past the lack of freedom n evrythng else you take for granted on the outside. those who fall apart are weak n mentally immature; which is 95% of inmate population.

come on that was pretty funny...

No im talking about the whole thread. As 'smart' as you all sound, i understand the words you guys are using yet it doesnt make sense. I think you are all just stroking each others ego's and pretending to know what each other is talking about.

the thread is about getting over your fears by facing them.
nothing more.
calm down with your jumps next time evil knievel.

^ LMAO. real talk. Ayy i think the best way to face our fears is with non attachment. We usually fear losing something. If we are not attached, then losing something will not be a problem and we will face no fear.
