The Law Needs Changed, but So Do We

A person is arrested every 38 seconds
for a non-violent marijuana charge **

First of all the message of this article is not just to say that alcohol is worse for you than marijuana. This idea has been conveyed many times very few successes, so instead I want to focus on the changes society will have when marijuana is legalized.

We will not have as many crowded jails, unlawful swat raids by militarized police, or as many families torn apart due to legal trouble involving marijuana. We will however have a drop in crime rates and a drop in profits for violent drug cartels.

Lets take a look at California and their legal view on marijuana. In 1966 56% of voters passed “Proposition 215″ which allowed “permits for seriously ill Californians to use marijuana”. Currently 202,416 people are registered marijuana users that purchase marijuana from licensed and tax paying drug dealers. For over 44 years medical marijuana has been available and it’s widely known and accepted that the system is abused…. but that’s the good thing. For 44 years a lot of people have been smoking just to get high, and there have been no major social repercussions.

It seems every so slightly that more and more people are beginning to realize that the pros outweigh the cons of legal pot.

This brings me to my next point. The change has to come from the ground up, starting with civilians. People need to talk to those in control of their rights, and I would suggest to politely talk about how little of a deal marijuana is when its used properly and responsibly. Now that totally depends on the situation. If you’ve failed three urine screens for marijuana on probation, this wouldn’t be a valid argument. It also wouldn’t be ideal to talk about anything if you are being arrested for new charges. Get your lawyer a.s.a.p.!

From day one the police officers of today are trained to think that marijuana users are terrible, evil people. Certainly some evil people do smoke marijuana, but too often those people are portrayed to represent all users.

Knowledge is power and wisdom is golden, so pass it on to people of authority. Without the support of police officers, prosecutors, and judges, marijuana will never be legal. The only way to change the negative way some people think about marijuana users, it to treat them like you want to be treated.

I wrote this article and I was looking for opinions. So, whatdya think?

this is pretty much another example of the man holding me down

That's exactly how I feel. Treat others the way you want to be treated!
It bothers me when I see teenagers (even being a 15 year old myself) that say "F*** the police!" for no reason. I see many kids from 12 years old to 16 or 17 that say stupid things like that even when they've never been arrested, or harassed, or had any real run-ins... A lot of teens will say f*** all authority with no reasons. Yes, there are abusive cops. No, not every cop is going to target you because of your skin color, your religion, or where your from. They are simply doing their job.
I have been arrested, but I don't think the police who arrested me were doing anything wrong. If we all just did it "Gandhi style", smoked, paid the consequences, proved the politicians and who ever else wrong, marijuana would be as easily obtainable as tobacco.

I don't quite understand why you bring up alcohol at the beginning of the article, and then completely drop it. I wouldn't have thought that this article had anything to do with alcohol if you hadn't added that random bit of obvious information.

I want a medicinal Marijuana card for fibromyalgia.. however Its not legal where I live.. also I am not entirely sure that it wont cause me to have panic attacks.

Well I added that because of the fact I stated about a person being arrested every 35 seconds.... It seems that a lot of articles that start out with a fact about marijuana have the arguing point of "alcohol is legal and look how much worse it is than pot'.

If you ever hear a stoner get on a soap box you'll hear them say the same thing. It's just tiring to see the same argument thrown at "non-believers" with absolutely no effect. I guess it was a random thing to say, but in my mind it was very prevelant :)
