The last thing you ate or drank v.2

^ Lesson learned? I learned my lesson with Oreos the other day. Highly processed food does not make my stomach happy.

Steel cut oats with almond milk, raisins, and prunes. Banana and orange are saved for later. Yum.

Smoothie: fresh coconut milk, cashews, dates, vanilla extract, raw cacao, cayenne.

Was really amazingly delicious until I decided to add another heaping spoonful of cacao, and a few more shakes of cayenne. Then it just got way too intense. :( The only way you learn is by trial and error, though.

A sparkling san peligrino drink and some chocolate covered raisins, carls junior burger and fries.

Haven't had any baked / processed food in a long time, and just ate two slices of pizza. It seriously felt downright toxic. Ate it to be polite, but it was so freaking salty, and gave me terrible heartburn.

So then I scarfed down a quarter papaya, half a dozen figs, a big ol' banana, and some macadamia nuts -- heartburn gone. :) Fresh fruit to the rescue.

A perfect little bowl of organic matcha. Happy Saturday!

I've got a pot of steel cut oats a bubblin' on the stove as we speak as well.

^ Mmm, steel cut oats. Had some especially delicious ones this morning--They were especially delicious since they were done by someone who knows how to cook 'em, unlike me. :P

Last had some sautéed Brussels sprouts, red pepper, onion, annnnd mushrooms. Shoulda went with steamed.

No way. Roasted man. Toss in just enough oil to barely coat, season well with salt and pepper, and roast at 400F until golden brown, turning as needed. Pure, concentrated win, right there.

Also, how do you cook steel cut oats wrong? The only 'bad' batch I've had was when I was trying to make a patty out of them, and wound up with a burnt/raw mess.

Roasted is the way to go if you're wanting cooked vegetables: I was craving raw but wanted something warm, and the pot I normally steam in (aka the only one big enough 8)) was in use.

I don't know how I cook steel cut oats wrong, or else I'd be doing them right! :P Seriously though, towards the end of cooking, there's always a slimy layer on top. I use a 3:1 ratio of water to oats, cook at medium-low like I've been shown... and yet there is this film on top. I've only made them somewhat successfully three times, so maybe the fourth time's the charm--I'll let you know after tonight. :P

Last had raisins, a banana, an orange, and some rolled oats--I need to finish up that bag I bought awhile back. Don't know if I'll be buying them again.

^ FWIW, my can of steel-cut oats gives a 4:1 water/oats ratio. Stir oats into briskly boiling water, and once beginning to thicken, simmer on low.

Steel-cut over rolled oats ANY day, BTW. :)

*Nodnod* I've never tried a 4:1 ratio, but I'm sure it'd be way too mushy for me to enjoy--Rolled oats say to use a 2:1 ratio and I do 1:1, if not .75:1.
