The Last Covid-19 Megathread v. Hopefully...

i won't speak on forcing school- aged children to get vaccinated with government mandates, but saying it "doesn't make sense" to get kids vaccinated is stupid.

firstly, serious vaccine side effects are rare (like myocarditis/ pericarditis, which, iirc affect teenagers more than other age groups), and are more common with sars-cov-2 infection than vaccination (and by a LOT, i'm pretty sure the last i checked).

second, although 7 year olds are the least likely to have serious outcomes from getting covid-19, we still don't know what long term effects are possible (and long term fx from viruses are a serious concern).

the vaccines are safer than prescription and otc drugs, which hardly anybody bats an eye about when administering them to kids.

lastly, YOUNG children, like under 5, have a worse time with the virus, and die at a higher rate (especially newborns, the ifr curve goes back up from age 7, 6, 5, and up and up from there), and with things like mis-c... not sure why anyone would fuck around and gamble on their kids' health with the virus over the obviously safer vaccines (like moderna, which is what we chose to get our very young children... fuck the fda for hesitating on it so long, fucking bastards).

it fucks me up that some women declined the vaccine while pregnant (which also innoculates the fetus, iirc)... we would have LOVED the option of vaccinating our kids way ahead of authorization for under 5s. not to mention gambling on serious pregnancy complications from infection, such as having a miscarriage or stillborn, iirc...

wtf is wrong with antivaxxers???

(someone i know said this about not getting vaxxed while pregnant)

"my body my choice"

well why don't you rub broken glass on your bare feet? your body, your choice... why don't you smoke cigs and drink moonshine while pregnant, too?

Which is basically doublespeak for 'you would quite like it if people's children were forced to take this unnecessary garbage, but I'm too gutless to just come out and say it'.

The rest of your post is just dumb quite frankly. This isn't early 2021, you can't hide behind authority and regurgitate their talking points about these jabs anymore, the truth is quite evident now. Not that it wasn't always evident in regards to the actual danger/necessity for ANYONE under the age of 50, but especially for children. There never was any need to give these experimental mRNA jabs to anyone 18 and under because they were at zero risk.

I feel sorry for your children.

No way hahah...
This is so crazy, look at the amount of unvaccinated children, imagine even 10% of them don't get it.

We're all being ruled by fucking clowns. Nobody in their right mind can defend this.
DC is particularly staunch regarding the vaccine stuff. Far more so than Virginia or even Maryland, you can't even go to see a show in DC without vaccine proof.

don’t fuckin put words in my mouth. government mandates for any drug or the like is my idea of dystopian... and i would assume anyone on bluelight (considering it’s a drug site) would feel the same. i didn’t address it because it wasn’t the point of my comment.

how about addressing my talking points instead of some shitty facsimile strawman bullshit you wanna make up....

for instance, you should have no trouble coming up with some good elaboration on your bullshit comment, please back up your bullshit.

Let me be clear, they're ready (!!!) to bar what I guess are thousands of children from schools because they aren't vaccinated, which doesn't make a meaningful impact in protecting themselves from the virus and hardly does anything for the spread. And the reaction is not confusion or outrage?

Everywhere else in the world they're regretting having closed schools too much leading to all sorts of massive learning problems, and in the US they just ban thousands from schools over something that is by now purely ideological (teenagers with no comorbidities are like the least hit group).... What a joke

@Buzz Lightbeer where are they banning kids from schools? I live in a very blue municipality and masks or vaccines are not required.

There are a dozen other vaccines which have been required for decades but nobody mentions those... and the likelihood a child who is unvaccinated from polio, measles or tuberculosis would contract them is almost nil.

The government is no longer covering the cost of vaccines either... going to hurt poor uninsured people even more if they are required for essential things like school.

a judge just ruled against vaccine mandates for government employees and now they gotta pay backpay to anybody affected and they get their jobs back

so the same day, the DC mayor pushes back her school kid vaccine mandate because too many kids would've been out of school next week

what a piece of shit this mayor is

DC mayor's 'no shots, no school' program postponed hours after separate COVID vaccine mandate struck down

Washington, D.C. is pushing back the enforcement date for a COVID-19 vaccine policy which requires that students over the age of 12 receive a coronavirus vaccine in order to participate in school.

Democrat Mayor Muriel Browser's administration previously had a "No Shots, No School" policy in place for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year at all schools within the District, meaning that students who are above the age of 12 would need to get the COVID-19 vaccine in order to attend school.

On Friday, the D.C. Office of the State Superintendent of Education announced that the COVID-19 vaccine mandate would not be enforced until Jan. 3, 2022.

"Today, the District shared with school leaders updated guidance regarding the enforcement timeline of the Immunization Attendance Policy for routine pediatric immunizations and the COVID-19 vaccine during the 2022-23 school year," the office announced. "To reduce the number of students who could be excluded from school at any one time, and to align schools and LEAs to one unified notification and exclusion timeline, the District is implementing staggered enforcement based on grade band."

Wait, it costs money for you guys? And what without insurance?
Completely free where I live
Everything was free until about a week ago. The government quietly announced they will no longer pay for it.

I'm sure most insurance will cover it, but there are millions of Americans without insurance. How much they'll have to pay I'm not sure... but probably prohibitively expensive because of how fucked healthcare is here.

It doesn't make sense.

Forcibly injecting kids with a vaccine that has a 99.9999% chance of doing jack shit to protect them from anything and a much higher chance of causing an adverse reaction... and if they don't comply they get kicked out of school... that is all fucking sorts of wrong.

Children shouldn't be vaccinated unless they want to. If the vaccines weren't fast-tracked, I'd probably feel differently. We don't know the harm they've done. It takes something like two years (on average) to get an accurate death rate with pandemics. Deaths are much easier to monitor than silent disorders that manifest five or ten years down the track.

The vaccines aren't harmless. People saying they are harmless are ignorant.

Every time a parent jabs their child, the healthcare professional should be legally required to say to the child: "We are going to inject you with this big needle containing an experimental drug. We don't know if it's completely safe. In fact, it has killed people. It might protect you against a virus called COVID but the virus probably won't even make you sick. You probably will only have a sniffle. The needle is going to hurt. Your arm will be sore for days." Then get them to actively confirm they understand and consent.

Children are not being informed of what is happening and they should be.

My daughter is 4 and she doesn't take any shit from anybody.

I have to say I would not get my kids vaccinated, if I had any. Not because I think the vaccines are particularly dangerous, but just because I feel more comfortable with the outcome of omicron than I do with the outcome of the vaccines down the road. It is not a zero risk of there being serious problems. It isn't with covid either, I realize. But the crux of it is that the vaccines worked against alpha and to a lesser extent, delta variants. They barely work at all against omicron. So the risk to reward ratio has suddenly tipped entirely away from the vaccine, for me.

Is what started the conversation, apparently it's very real

This is honestly criminal. Barring unvaccinated kids from school itself is pretty fucked up, but then to explicitly state that there will be no virtual learning alternative? That's horrible and deeply wrong. I can't even believe that's real, except it clearly is.
