Hullo, this is my first post to this site. I got the idea to join and post from an old post back in 2009. I don't know if this is the best thread for my post but here goes it anyway.
I want to share experience, strength and hope about my addiction to opiates. I had back surgery in 2003 (double back to back six months apart). While I realize I was an addict before this time, things became much more desperate and sorry soon after my Dr. put me on Oxycontin. I'm not going to tell every detail about my drug use because that is not what is importiant. Lets just say that short of heroine I've abused the strongest Opiate there is, Fentanyl.
So lets flash forward through 8 miserable years of drug history. I started going to NA meetings. I was on methadone. My conscious desire to be free from all drugs kept hounding me in the back of my mind. My pain management doctor did not seem to understand how badly I wanted off of the methadone. So, I went out on my own to a detox facility. Twice I had to do this before I found the best way to detox from opiates. First, I do recommend going to a detox facility when able. I understand the issues some people have with insurance so I would recommend finding out what all of your options are. What I want to share about is what I did AFTER I came home from detox. Even if you can't go to a detox facility this IS THE BEST NON-NARCOTIC METHOD I'VE FOUND OR EVER HEARD OF.
VISTARIL....Vistaril is a anti-histamine similar to Benedryl. It is probably most commonly prescribed for anxiety. It does wonders for it being a NON-NARCOTIC anxiety medicine. The 50 mg capsules are best. If you really want to get clean and stay clean BE HONEST WITH YOUR DOCTOR. Tell the doctor what you are trying to do. Perhaps the doctor might even help you further by prescribing Clonodine (not to be confused with Klonopin). Clonodine is a blood pressure medication that most detox's use. But the Vistaril is vital as it takes a lot of the edginess, anxiety, irritability, and SLEEPLESSNESS AWAY. I'm not sure why Vistaril does this when Benedryl does NOT. But I was amazed that a non-narcotic could do this. NO JOKE. It doesn't have any kind of high.
PASSIFLORA INCARNATA or PASSION FLOWER EXTRACT is also non-narcotic and often is used for a sleep aid /anti-anxiety. It can be bought at some vitamin stores or health and wellness grocery stores. It can be slightly more expensive ranging <snip, no prices>, But it's worth it!! Besides, think of all the money we have spent on other opiates...it doesn't even compare. ALSO, this drug will not get you high. This drug has been studied in India for this exact use. Dilute the drops (40-70 drops) in non acidic juice or water. It comes in alcohol tincture or alcohol-free. I was told the alcohol type contained a higher level of the Passion Flower extract per volume.
I'm not sure what else I can say about these two drugs. Only that with prayer, willingness, openmindedness, honesty, and some 12step fellowship that GETTING AND STAYING CLEAN IS POSSIBLE.
There are other things that are helpful during opiate withdrawl. A short list of the ones I know:
MASTURBATION
EXERCISE
WARM/HOT SHOWERS
PLENTY OF FLUIDS
SALTINE CRACKERS
TEA (non-caffinated)
MEETINGS, MEETINGS, MEETINGS....NA WORKS BEST FOR ME.
WISHING YOU THE BEST,
