In the Other drugs forum, we tend to mainly focus on the effects of drug use, and not the effects of getting caught with those drugs, a real possibility in the US of A. I want to get others opinions on the consequences of getting caught with controlled substances relative to each other. Here is my approximation.
Worst to least, to get caught with (in terms of sentence, etc):
Crack (CII)-Mandatory Minimum Sentences, need I say more?
GHB (CI)-It is fairly harmless relative to other drugs I will mention but it has been caught under the umbrella of date rape. Some states prescribe sentences of up to 60 years for possession.
Heroin (CI)-Worse than getting caught with CII narcotics, I imagine.
Methamphetamine (CII)-The DEA considers it the biggest growing problem in America.
Cocaine-Had a bad rep since 1914 (Harrison Narcotics Act)
Ecstasy (CI)-It is heralded as fairly benign by users but getting busted with it is a different story lately.
PCP (CII)-Kind of rare but still commonly discussed in drug texts and by the govt.
CII Narcotics (Morphine, Fentanyl, Oxycodone)-Like heroin but legal according to the prohibitionists.
LSD (CI)-I dunno why but it is considered a hard drug.
Shrooms (CI)-Ditto in the US.
Ketamine (CIII)-Also caught under the date rape drug category so be careful (God knows why it is a date rape drug)...
Hydrocodone (CIII)-This is many people's entrance into the world of opiates.
Xanax/Valium (CIV)-It is still a felony.
Cannabis (CI)-A misdemenor in most places.
I want to know what others think...

Cant forget my field of plat Steroids CIII drug but if caught is trouble friend of mine is doing 4 yrs for posession of just under 500 pills...considering i hvae close to 20k in pills around me id be literally fucked

ive sold foxy to some people and was wondering what the deal is with that....u think that possession of capsules filled with it or sale of them can lead to a prison sentence or a harsh permanent record?

Careful, because in some states (Nevada, for one) it's a felony to be in possession of marijuana. Silly if ya ask me, but a good reminder to check your local laws.
Also, not a good idea to keep your real obvious drug paraphrenalia in plain sight. Seeing a bong on your coffee table is all the cops need to get a warrant to search your house, even if they come to your door for some completely different, harmless reason. Ditto goes for mirrors/razor blades, hypodermic needles, and $100,000 pill presses.
Be careful out there!

I believe that getting caught with LSD dropped on sugar cubes is about the worst possible personal usage possesion charge you can get.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think with LSD they base your sentence on the carrier weight, not the actual amount of drugs, which like someone said Sugar Cubes really screw you. I think there was some legislation to overturn that but I'm not sure if ever made it through. The moral of the story is to keep/get your LSD on something that is the lest carrier weight (liquid is ideal, though paper is good or just a few hits).

The US is one scary place....
It's amazing that anyone with half a brain could actually believe that all these rule and regulations are helping people to be free in our wonderful free country...
We are so lucky to have wonderful people that believe that every action of every person should be monitored and categorized.
If we have this state of controled freedom I bet we would be able to pay great agencies like the CIA and the DEA...
And what would do with out them?
People would be out of control and would have to much fun...we certainly wouldn't want people to have fun or feel confortable in there environment would we...
I say we put everyone in jail that way we can justify our organizations to "control"/"defeat" the evil drug threat...
Don't you see them all....those druggies...
They are bad...
While we are at it we should also make alcohol illegal and nicatine too...
Why stop there when we can make everything illegal...
And fuck all those damn hippies who want to make paper/cloths/oil/ and fuel out of that hemp stuff... it's to close to pot so it's bad...
I say we encurage deforestation, missle defence and orbital lazer platforms...
hehehe...little to they know... once our lazer is in operation we will be able to control the world. Anyone who apposes us we will be able to vaporize at any given moment...
So it's a deal... Give me alot of money and I'll make hell on earth...
woo hoo
go america!!!

Oh come on guys, look how much we're getting away with!
It seems as simple as this:
You can do your drugs, you can acquire them, store them, trade them, sell them, and even make them, just don't get caught.
How do you get caught? You flaunt it, you drive fucked up, you draw ambulances by OD'ing, you give or sell to inexperienced people, you get too greedy, you draw too much attention, you don't play by the rules, you rip people off, and you're indiscrete.
Look at how much leeway we're given here. People get busted for a reason.
Most Schedule I drugs are easily available on the streets of any metropolitan city.
We've had a flourishing rave/drug culture for the last 5 years. We support many third-world economies (and black ops) with our thrist for drugs. We can talk rather freely about our experiences without fear of the dea knocking down our doors (unless you choose that fear), and if you follow some rules of discretion and you keep your eyes out, you may even be able to order drugs over the internet, delivered to your door!

Forget you normal street drugs how about rare things like DOM, TMA-2, TMA-6, DMT, yadda yadda yadda...
Anything new for fucks sake... All of the shit on the street is played out and well down right boring...
Because of the way our agencies operate it make it not cost efective or with the risk for people to manufacture and distribute exotics like the aformentioned...
Getting caught is not the issue...
it's getting bored.

Liquid ocean is SO right. If your relaxing at your house and doing an illicit drug, you have basically NOTHING to fear. You got people who get fucked up and get behind the wheel of a car, drive recklessly, and then complain when they get in trouble after putting peoples' lives in danger. If your getting arrested for having drugs... for the most part your doing something you COULD have avoided EASILY.
As for the guy that said make alcohol illegal: Considering the use of alcohol has been important in different religions since their creation, there is no possible way it will EVER be made illegal. it has been involved in society for such a long time that its basically impossible to get rid of it now. Just read up on the prohibition days and see how badly that failed.

The issue is not about getting caught, it's a matter of personal freedom and ethics...
I for one know:
That no one in this world should be able to control what I put inside my body if I am not hurting anyone. It is MY body and my mind and I'll be damned if the government tells me what I can do with it.
The issue is of the injustice of what IS being done.
The futility of the drug war
The Racism of the Drug War
The VICTIMS of the Drug War
Sure you can do your drugs at home pretty safe, but that is slowly being evaportaed, and is NOT the issue.
With phone taps, search warrants being executbale by word of mouth, infared detection without cause and police corruption, you are never totally safe....
How bout NARCS? You may buy from one or sell to one? Undercover cops at concerts and raves? Should we have to watch our behavior in a party forum so closely?
What about the general mis-trust that breeds?
What about elimnating the drug black market?
All the people dying from drug czar's, or botched police raids, what about the super-inflated prices we are paying...
What about treatment for those with problems, you'd think some of that 19 billion we spend to lock up innocent people each year could be spared for treatment, right?
With ALL these factors in place, defending the drug war is as stupid as doing hard drugs and going out driving, it's just helping to eventually get you locked up....
Think for a minute, just because you are lucky and not a victim of this drug war, does that make this right?
The Drug War is a total failure, and this needs to be made more apparent, most countries now realize this, Amerikkka is still pulling a fucking Salem Witch-trial on us, we need to stop this.

Lying on the stained wretched sheets with a bleeding virgin, we could plan a murder or start a religion...

I would define the freedom that american's have as not having wars and battles and attacking foreign invaders on our soil...no, instead we have the atf, or something, which really isn't as bad as if canada was coming after us....Freedom, within our borders (kind of defeats itself, huh?)

hey guys, eat a dick!!!

BTW infared detection can no longer be used as the basis of a search warrant.
http://supreme.nytimes.findlaw.com/briefs/99-8508/1999-8508.mer.aa.html
In fact people who have been served a warrant, due to infared detection, and imprisoned due the fact they were growing may be retroactivly released and have charges dropped due to the violation of the 4 amendment that infared detection poses.
I completely agree, the war on drugs is a complete and utter disaster. It's just so increadable that it continues to gain funding... Oh well, we are fucked...
