the guitar mod megathread

Any chance of revealing what kinda fuzz you've got, TG?!?

Mine's based on the original fuzz-face circuit and achieves a good fuzzy sustain, a la Henry Vestine/Harvey Mandel of Canned Heat - what kinda sound you looking for?

Whatever, I've PM'd some info' :)

This thread has reminded me that I desperately need to get back into playing guitar...and fast.

I did a shit-ton of custom work on my LP and Tele. Changed the machine heads to locking heads that actually had built in string cutters.

The black bolt on the bottom screws on, locks the string in place, and when you start turning the key, that sharp edge right below the hole the string goes through will cut excess string off. I know heads like these are pretty common, but that was my favorite mod. It made my life SO MUCH easier.

Changed the humbuckers. New neck and fret boards. Paint job on the Tele.

I think with the money my fiancee and I get from our wedding, I will have to buy a new guitar and pimp it out again. Unfortunately, three years ago, the local pawn shop became the proud owner of my 5 guitars (Gibson and Epiphone LP, Fender tele and strat, and a Epiphone SG) and 3 amps (Fender tube half-stack, classic Peavey 30 tube amp, and Behringer V-tone GMX212), thanks to my heroin addiction.

I had a guitar shipped from the midwest to the west coast for 12 bucks. It must be a special biz account...it was guitar center BTW. Now for me to ship it back, it would be about 80 bucks?

Always thought it'd be interesting to build an acoustic guitar from scratch, but I have no wood working skills and I am a much better drummer than I am a guitarist. Building a drum kit would be pretty cool though.

Has anyone fitted one of these bad boys into their guitars?

I wanna know how it compares to the humbucker sized version as I'm thinking of having the Seymour Duncan JB Jr ripped out of my Jag, and having one of these put in instead.

Well, I went ahead and ordered one of the above pickups from ebay the other week. And I thought, "hey, why don't I try and install it myself?!". That plan would have worked out had it of been another Seymour Duncan pickup. But apparently, the wires in DiMarzio pickups go in different places. :X

Anyway, at least I can say I gave it a shot. So I took the geetar in to the tech I went to last time today and he said he could do it within an hour (and for £10!). A nice guy who cares a lot about his work, you can tell. So anyway, I'll be picking it up tomorrow as I was working too late to make it back before the shop closed. Fingers crossed it's got some good sustain on it. :)

edit: woo! page 2 :D
