Note:This was a freestyle rap I wrote a few months back as a tribute to all my friends in the Air Force and our sister services who've been deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hot-zones, and to those who donned the uniform before me and participated in the wars of the 20th century.
The rain pours on, the show must go on
But sometimes the weight has me askin’ if I could carry on
On my shoulder is the wieght of world
the fate of the world
and even what I don’t want: the hate of the world
Soaked and drenched, my mind is entrenched
This burden is enough to get my poor gut wrenched
I look in this dirty mirror lookin’ for a sign
Askin’ myself why I signed on that dotted line
Why the fuck did I sell my soul to Uncle Sam?
Why the fuck am I a lackey for the hated Man?
I’m exposed to hatred across the four corners
And when I die there won’t be any mourners
To attend my funeral or foretell my eulogy
I’ll fade away into modern mythology
A nameless soldier for all eyes to see
What war, hatred, and terror has done to me
As I stand in the rain with my shoulders aching, this mission painstaking
Forced to go against my principles about life taking
They say war is supposed to make a man out of you
But who the hell are you when your soul is ripped in two?
By the blood and the violence
And the deafening silence
Of the bodies everwhere
I’ve never been so scared
Of losing myself, I need to get help
Or else I’ll end up riding on a highway to Hell
"Without a word this uniform also whispers of freezing troops, injured bodies, and Americans left forever in foriegn fields. It documents every serviceman’s courage, who by accepting this uniform, promises the one gift he truly has to give - his life. I wear my uniform for heritage of sacrifice it represents and more. I wear my uniform with pride, for it represents the greatest nation of free people in the world."
