Let's sort through the misinformation and put this puzzle together coherently. Then, much like bluelight has done in the past, we'll try to clear the air of confusion.
You guys in this sub-forum are probably the most well-studied when it comes to chemistry and biology.

So, first of all, what are the virus(es) that cause the disease? I've heard that there are 4 different strains, each can cause ebola on their own; then I've heard that there is 4 different viruses which work together to cause ebola, and are all present at the same time. Does anybody know which is true and could provide some good references?

Does anyone have images of the structure of these viruses?

Which strain of the virus is present in the US right now?

Now, will ethyl alcohol in the amount and form present in hand sanitizer gel suffice to kill these viruses if applied to the hands? If no, how about a more hefty amount/form of ethyl alcohol? Will it kill viruses on, say, lab equipment or medical tools?

Hopefully you guys know the answers, or maybe have some questions of your own to bring to the thread.

This issue seems to be ever-more increasingly pertinent, so I put the thread here because I thought it would get well-written replies faster.

Also, on a slightly less technical note, me being a fan of Jungian analysis, it interested me in hearing that the traditional believed cause of Ebola in Africa is 'improper burial rites'; which leads me to believe that traditional African medicine already knows how to avoid Ebola (by avoiding bodily fluids), and when modern practice 'forgets' culture, it returns. Is there anything else in traditional African medicine that may be pertinent to Ebola?
