The EADD we post pictures of each others usernames thread

No raas no. No no no.

The final Mailmonkey pic is Brick Lane, in London's East End -> E(ast) (or from the postcode).

^ Oh come on, that's ridiculous. You can't expect us to know the postcode for every street in England. We're not all mail monkey's here.

Not every street, just Brick fucking Lane, one of the most famous! Certainly with druggies as there are a few druggie haunts.

^ Ah yes, and indeed Brothels.

Though, Mr Knock, I will stress that for those of us though, who do not live in – or visit - London all that often, it’s pretty much impossible to get. It could literally have been any street in England. I personally haven’t been to London in many years, and don’t intend to either as I just have no business there. The picture is already discriminating against people like me, because of my current location Surely now, for the third picture, a nice E tablet or something would have done the job more effectively? Though – and I will discuss in more detail later – perhaps this is deliberate. Providing 3 different pictures for the username involved would have made it an easy puzzle to find the answer. I do respect that perhaps you had to make the pictures considerably difficult, to provide us with more of a challenge.

I will credit you that the first two pictures were sufficient enough to work it out. Once you put Male and Monk together, it can’t really be any other user now could it? You would probably have been better off just leaving brick lane out of it completely. It just wasted time, as one doesn’t really extend their thought pattern as far as postcodes… You just think of usernames with “brick” or “lane” or “London” or “street” “or “road”…. Maybe even “East”, but never E. Really bad choice of picture that’s just too hard for anyone outside of London to get. I hope you understand what I’m saying here.

I feel I’ve made my point now, however. And yes I do still commend you on the previous two pictures. Recognition of the Jazz musician was always going to be very difficult. Especially for those of us, who don’t like Jazz. And, well… let’s face it… with the exception of SHM most of us here were bought up in a generation of hardcore/rave/techno/dnb/house/dubstep while munching pills and don’t really have any recognition of “jazz” music. To be honest the only way I found his name was by looking at the properties of the picture, and pasting the file name into google. There I was presented with many other pictures of this “monk” guy. From there it gave me many ideas of how to work out your puzzle. But should I be relying on looking at the original picture URL to get answers? Was this deliberate? I doubt it. You were most likely hoping that a forum of druggie losers would recognise a respectable Jazz musician, so it’s always going to be a bad choice.

So yes… it was definitely a very hard one, but I did eventually get it, so without saying the bottom line is that it was workable. It took a bit of time and thought, but it was not too hard so that to be wasteful. The rick mayall photo was clearly the easiest of the 3 photo’s to get. As we pronounce his surname “mayall” as “Mail” or “Male” phonetically. Considering 90% of the forum wouldn’t have known how to spell is sur name anyway, using the acoustic sound of his name seems a sensible choice for the picture. In fact, it may have been possible to guess the poster was mail monkey from this picture alone. Certainly, there are no other prominent posters in this forum who have “Mail” or “Male” embedded somewhere to their guise. With one exception however…

Rickolasnice. The first picture being a photo of “Rick”, could just as easily have been a hint for that particular username, just as easily as “Mayall” could have indicated “Mail” monkey. This is crucial. Because it meant that the puzzle would never have been workable from just the first picture. It literally forced us to look at picture 2 and 3 to deduce an answer.

The obvious answer found in the first picture (I would imagine every person on this forum, and their gran, knows who Rick Mayall is) gives us real reason to understand just why the latter 2 pictures were so hard to guess: in effect this justifies the difficulty of the latter 2. For instance, if any of the other pictures were particularly easy to guess… then the picture puzzle would have become far too easy. With 3 pictures, you simply cannot make all 3 obvious because then the puzzle becomes far too easy to find an answer – a mistake many other previous posters have made.

This is the difficulty associated with longer usernames. The more pictures that the username requires, the easier it is to guess the whole thing. Certainly, if 3 pictures are to be used… it makes total sense to me that at least 2 of them should be very difficult to grasp. This sustains a great thought process to work out the picture, rather than finding an easy answer because of the many pictures which allude to the user name.

So, to summarize the two above paragraphs: I respect the way you have provided one picture that is very workable, and a further 2 of greater difficulty. This way it prevents just anyone from guessing the answer. It appeals to only those who are keen enough to pursue it properly: a filter mechanism which divides the true puzzle devotees from the mainstream general who are looking for an easy answer.

From a critical view the choice of pictures was not great. The post would have been more perfect if you could deduce the name from all 3 pictures. The fact it was workable from just 2 of them leaves you to think it was not a very well devised post. As aforementioned; You may just as well have got rid of the third picture altogether.

So not a perfect puzzle at all, undeniable flawed in how it is put together, but workable and achieves it’s goal in providing a logical thought process to lead us to a findable answer. It did what it was meant to do.

Sorry, I missed the logical step where you demonstrated it was not perfect?

An entertaining read nonetheless and you almost convinced me I could go for a pint with you and now need to prepare some drug-related escape mechanism =D

Oh I see what you mean, your own steps should not have been possible. But I have to consider the audience and in that way I think it was perfect for achieving the goal.

Erm, my long winded rant was actually, in itself... a picture of a BL username

Allowing for a couple of non-space-separated words, that is indeed one thousand words. What a cunt!

Cool!

I just got off the phone to a pal who tells me his mate used to be called Keith and is now called Kate. We agreed he'd gone half-measures by retaining the key consonant/vowel pattern.

Nah didn't have a clue with that one, you're further than me with knowing who the statue is of

edit; still not been told why the first half of the thread has vanished

^ My only guess is Alasdair. Augustus was the first emperor and founded the Roman Empire.

Alasdair is a kind of Bluelight emperor? and he kinda founded it? He was one of the first here.

that's my only guess, and i'm aware it isn't a great one.

As for the thread split, I assume it just took the fate as most popular threads do and got restarted. Though it's a little odd it wasn't given the full course, traditional 1,000 posts before the chop.
