The EADD Mental Health Support Thread

Sertraline has dopamine reuptake inhibition activity that prozac doesn't have, people I've spoken to who've tried sertraline told me they found it quite stimulating compared to other SSRI's like escitalopram.

SSRI's aren't all identical in the kind of activity they have in the body, seretonin reuptake inhibition is just the most significant activity going on. Paroxetine (seroxat) for example has a small effect on dopamine and noradrenaline transporters aswell as the main effect on seretonin reuptake. I guess this is part of the reason why people quite often have to try a few different SSRI's before they find one which suits them best.

Much better explained here^ATM.

Yes,Sertraline is quite stimulating, hence why i have to take it in the morning. When i was on Quetiapine and took my morning Sertraline woooosh.Shame the Quetiapine turned on me.

Super quick update as Im running so late for work!!

Went to the doc, it was a young woman and she was lovely! Prescribed me 3mg of Xanax a day, seeing her every 2 weeks. Thank you bluelight and kind people! :) x

Anyone else use kratom medicinally? It's probably bad form to be using an opioid to treat my mood but I do, and I have to say it's amazing. Wake up feeling like shit, shove 5g down my throat and within an hour I feel like a finely-tuned member of the human race. I try to space out my use, once every two or three days, keeps tolerance down and I've not had much in the way of WDs.

I do my best not to over play me limited knowledge in such things, my info is largely based on personal experience, especially with ADs.

I got on OK with Sertraline and thought I'd found one that I could at least tolerate, then I had quite a bad internal bleed which was at least in part caused by it, so I stopped.

Prozac ( or flouro-whatsit) makes my violently sick with in a hour or taking it, proper projectile vomiting....not nice at all

Citlopram makes me feel like death and makes me want death as well, I gave it a good shot of 2 weeks but things got really bad hallucinations, dilutions the whole9 yards.

I think a lot of people have the perception that SSRI's only afffect your brain, when actually seretonin receptors of various subtypes are distributed all over the body, including the intestines, I think a lot of the side effects of SSRI's are due to this.

Prozac (fluoxetine), Seroxat and Venlafaxine never made me throw up, but Citalopram make me sick as a dog after just one dose to the extent I threw the whole box away and gave up on it there and then. I've heard from people who've had the same experience with Citalopram, but also from people who had no problems of that sort atall with it. It's interesting how varied peoples response to the same drug can be!

Good update after yesterdays doctors meeting, we have agreed to take it slowly.

So I'm moving to alternate days of 75 and 150mgs for a couple of weeks and added in 20mg Propranolol to see how I go with that as I've been going backwards a bit with my anxiety. I think being housebound for many weeks after a motorbike accident hasn't helped TBH.

Any one else use Propranolol ?

I was on propranolol for a while, but it was the extended release capsules. I generally felt I would have been better off with the normal instant release version so I could take it at times when I was going to be anxious, rather than taking it every day as a matter of course. It does work though, as long as you don't expect benzo-like mental anxiolysis, since it just controls the increased heartrate etc and vicious circle of rising panic that can create when you get anxious.

I have the IR ones but just 2X 10mg a day to begin with, I think the hope is they may help with any added anxiety from coming of the Venlafaxine and curb my general anxiety.

He said he would start me low to ensure I didn't have an odd reaction to it,not sure what he will up it to in a couple of weeks, with the lowered Venlafaxine I'm expecting to be feeling like I'm being constantly electrocuted, that's the sensation i get if I'm late taking a dose, maybe the half does will hold that at bay.

The numbers suggest that not all people suffer on withdrawal, but I tend to be low on luck;)

Excellent news! {^_^}
I'm sure you'll feel much better. But I will add the obligatory word of caution to try to only use it when needed, but I know it's not exactly easy to do!

Good stuff atm! :)
I was on Propanolol for a bit too, and it's really good for the physical aspects of anxiety. Some find it good for the mental aspects too, but it's a case of "horses for courses".
Hope it works out mate :)

Hope it helps atm! I was on it a long while ago, unforturnately around the same time i discovered diaz so any potential effects were ruined, definitely great for heart racing and that though, used to take some after a stim binge, dunno how smart that was..

You guys were discussing zoloft earlier, has it got that 2 week rebound thing that can fuck people up? or it is a pretty benign antidepressant, known a few people on it but they've been on it ages, someone close is starting it for post natal

Haha atm :P
So I've got the prescription on paper, but after 20 calls to pharmacies and hospitals, I can say it's definitely been blacklisted. :/ Was told my nhs direct to phone the out of hours doctors and try and get something else.

tbh I didn't think xanax was actually able to be prescribed by NHS doctors atall in the uk, I was a bit surprised when you said you'd got a script for it. I would've expected them to give you diazepam as it's well suited to very gradual tapers.

Always sucks to be left stuck without the pills you need over the weekend though :|

Just started on 50mg of sertraline (zoloft), raised to 75mg, and it's definitely more.stimulating than the previous citalopram i was on. Got my jaw clenching and general uppy-ness which isn't exactly pleasant i gotta say. Never been much of a fan of stims tho so hey, YMMV. On the flip side. I think it's having a more positive effect on me - it's usually quite difficult to tell with AD's - i seem to be subtely more positive and even-keeled on a day to day basis.

Should be having an appointment with the local mental health team soon which will be a step forward. It's odd, i know I've had something 'wrong' for years but always just used drugs to medicate/cover it up and when doing a borderline personality test the other day I scored quite highly. Anyone else have any experience of BPD? It's a tricky diagnosis isn't it? Not sure quite how i feel about it although if it means i get more input from people who genuinely give a shit than that'd be great. I could do with an extra hand atm.

Quite a shock at just how all over the place i can feel WITHOUT drugs.

Yeah, I thought they would initially put me on diazepam due to the long half life, had no idea it was blacklisted. I was surprised that none of the pharamacies had even heard of xanax/ alprazolam! Had to spell it out and explain what it was. Ended up seeing an out of hours doctor at the hospital, he prescribed me with 28 2mgs of diazepam for the weekend. Not sure how many I'm supposed to take, but isn't 2mgs extremely weak? He said that now he's seen me and knows I'm not just trying to drug fiend, if the doseage isn't enough I can just go back and they would up the prescription. Win!

I hope the G.P who prescribed me xanax doesn't get in shit for it! She was very young, I'll feel so bad if she does, she was just trying to help.

^^that is odd that ain't it? Dunno why it's been blacklisted when it certainly has its uses. I saw a notice up at my local gp surgery explaining how they were going to put a stop to all long term benzo rx's. Where does that leave those severely dependent??! Poor buggers.

And really, to Kace again, i would seriously consider reporting that doc who lectured you when asking for the pill. That's COMPLETELY inappropriate and is EXACTLY his job to script you for it. Please, don't let him get away with it. Out of interest, what was the general content of the conversation surrounding his bullshit reply?

God i would love some xanax right now.

Sounds like an honest mistake on her part.

Alprazolam is very, very rarely prescribed in this country - it's a lot more common in Ireland.

I would've though they'd put you straight on diaz for a taper, which seems the likely outcome. Glad you're sorted for the weekend, go easy with the diaz you have (no, there's not tht much there but it stays in your system for ages), and get a proper taper arranged during the week.

^^^

You snorted what ??? sorry to lazy to review all your posts to work out what.

Kace - 2mgs seems very low but this is mainly because in recreational use 10mgs is the norm, but it may well be enough to hold you for the time being, I'd start with one of those and only take more of you feel uncomfortable. My guess would be that it would certainly stave off any of the really nasty effects of benzo WDs
