The Drugs Wheel

TheDrugsWheel_1_0_6.jpg

This might be a dumb question but what is the difference between the outer wheel and the inner wheel?
The drugs in the outer wheel are illegal in the UK, the ones on the inside are not.

yo, was reading the stimulants part... there are several that seem to be missing. the legal ones would be nicotine and caffeine. the RCs would be 2,3,4-FA, 2,3,4-FMA, the cathinone family (khat kind of falls in that category), and i would change the 'dexedrine' one because that is a brand name, and replace the dexedrine with dextroamphetamine, and finally i would add levoamphetamine to the stimulants list. its also worth noting that some people find recreational value in diphenhydramine, which is technically an antihistamine but is also a depressant, and at very high doses it becomes a hallucinogen. it may also be worth adding poppy seeds/poppy pods to the opioids list, although the chemicals are roughly the same as those of opium, but the poppy seeds and pods are generally not associated with the latex. just a thought. under the psychedelics section, mescaline and peyote are basically the same thing (mescaline is the active ingredient in peyote). another drug to add to psychedelics (or dissociatives, technically its both) would be ibogaine. in psychedelics, the 2c family has many more drugs, including 2c-p, 2c-e,2c-c, 2c-d, 2c-f, 2c-g, 2c-h, 2c-n, 2c-tfm, 2c-t, 2c-t-7, 2c-se, and more. another couple to add to opioids would be oxymorphone and hydromorphone. another to add, but im not sure where you should put it, would be the kavalactones. another to add to depressants would be the muscle relaxers, namely cyclobenzaprine and carisoprodol. another one to add would be kratom, which i believe belongs in the opioid section. i cant think of anymore at the moment, but i know there are plenty.

damn after all the edits i just added like 20 drugs to that list...

It's not meant to be an exhaustive list, there are dozens of not hundreds of psychedelics that aren't listed, and there'd be no point. What do you achieve by listing every ring-halogenated AET analogue?

Cheers for that Gearfiend. It's by no means meant to be a comprehensive list, just a sampling of some common recreational drugs. There's only room for ten substances in each of the outer ring categories and five in the inner ones, so I had to edit down.

Good point about dexedrine though, nice one, I'll change that when I do the next edit...

Good piece of work mr-adley, i'd be interested in the finished product. It would be good if you could make a moveable version similar to the 'Alcohol Wheel' i've seen, just a thought.

Nice looking diagram.

Perhaps you could make it bigger and incorporate some sort of venn diagram type deal for drugs that fit in more than one category?

Probably a lot more work than its worth though really, I imagine the layout would have to be changed substantially to make it work.

Is O-Desmethyltramadol still legal there? Also, kratom? Both might bulk up the legal opioid section a bit but being across the pond, I'm not in the know regarding the newest criminalizations.

i was only making suggestions. the problem of space occurred to me after i posted, but i figured either way the info wouldn't hurt.

if you are merely looking for commonly used drugs, 4-FA still qualifies as it has become fairly widespread recreationally and i believe it is still legal. and for the time being, it couldnt hurt to add ibogaine to the dissociatives section due to the fact that there are only 3 in there. another legal drug you could add (as previously mentioned by me and one or two others) is kratom, which falls under the opioids section with OTC codeine. and in the interest of freeing up space, you could remove peyote from the list due to the fact that mescaline is the active compound in peyote. also, the entheogens section is not full, so it may be worth adding muscimol (the active compound in amanita muscaria and amanita pantherina) to the list. it has been used as an entheogen, but is also a dissociative and psychedelic/hallucinogen.

these are suggestions...

PaleRider: I'm not sure that it'll ever be completely finished as I think perhaps it's a constant work in progress, but we're good to go for now, and printable versions can be found on the site: http://thedrugswheel.com

Regarding a moveable version - would be cracking! Where I'd really like to take it is a 3D version that would allow for more overlap between substance types, but we might have to wait a few years for that :)

Kratom's a good idea to slot into the legal opioids too, nice one. No idea about O-Desmethyltramadol, never y'eard of it...

Are peyote, khat and ephedrine legal in the UK (ie OTC).

And I thought I'd leave peyote and mescaline as they are, as it highlights that while mescaline is a controlled substance, the peyote cactus is not controlled...

ah. thats true, although if the cacti are 'produced' or intended to be consumed, the same legal penalties as mescaline would apply. although as you pointed out, it is still legal and fairly simple to obtain the cacti for ornamental purposes, just as it is with poppies.

very good, a few things though:
2-ai I think should be in the legal stimulants category, you've mistyped DXM as dmx, and 'dissasociatives' should be read 'dissociatives' ;)

I think dexedrine should be replaced with dextroamphetmaine as known here in the uk now! :)

Personally I would add to the downers section more relevant controlled drugs such as alprazolam or zolpidem instead of flunitrazepam or secobarbitol. They are hardly (if even ever) used anymore here. Flunitrazepam already has a bad and unworthy name of the date rape drug which was only given to it so that big pharma could come along and throw z-drugs at the public. Don't shame it's name further. :(
