The drug you would have in mind if you were Aldous Huxley.

"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution-then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise."

-Aldous Huxley

If you were to pick a drug that is of existence today, that you believe best fits this description, what would it be and why?

If there was a way to eliminate tolerance, I would choose Tramadol assuming that everyone had the CYP2D6 pathway. I find it stimulating, yet comfortable, and more empathogenic than any other opioid that I have tried, although I have not tried morphine, I have read that is more sedating than most other opiates.

I would have to suggest an opiate, probably either methadone or oxycodone. Methadone has the benefits of being long-lasting and 'subtle', requiring less frequent doses; of course, it brings the risk of addiction- but were that problem eliminated, I would select methadone. I don't really like it that much but I used it a few weeks back for the first time since recovering from addiction and enjoyed it a lot this time around, even the sort of robotic and non-spontaneous mood it aroused. But I ultimately think that Aldhous Huxleys idea herein is not sound.

FWIW, this may not be the right forum for this....

Peace :)

Never tried methadone so I can neither agree nor disagree, but I definitely agree that it would be some sort of opiate. :) I would also agree that this sort of drug doesn't really exist, but I thought it would be interesting to see what people think based off of what does exist.

I'm thinking that Huxley was describing some sort of "modified" opiate, given that he was a fairly regular heroin user.

The first thing that comes to mind is MDMA or some kind of empathogen. If it didn't have a comedown, it would be perfect.
I also think it could be mescaline. Definitely gives me the life is "divinely beautiful and significant" feeling.
