I wonder why you chose me.
You could have any of the dolls.
Why did you call me beautiful?
And then liked me best of all.
Why are lies easier to believe
when they fall from handsome lips?
Why did you stare into my eyes
and softly kiss my lips?
All was wonderful and you treated me kind.
But one day when I met you for play -
Did my eyes deceive me, am I losing my mind?
Or did you play with another doll that day?
You should have left me to sit -
Just a doll upon the shelf.
Maybe then I could have survived -
With some respect for myself.
So with feelings trampled and spirit bruised,
I climb back to the shelf asking "why"?
But have no fear, this smile's painted on.
'Cause everyone knows dolls don't cry.

I wrote this during the breakup of my marriage. Yes, it is better to have loved and lost, but being cheated on is a true bitch. **sniff sniff**

Thanks for the responses, guys! I wasn't sure how I felt about posting something with a negative slant. But, to me, this one means that life is not always fair and you must go on. Poetry fills a void in my life when things are shaky. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. I'm glad you liked it.

Your words are so moving...I know I cannot relate to the severity of your situation when it involved cheating, marriage, children, etc. but most assuredly feel for you!! You are such a wonderful person, with so much to offer..I cannot wait to meet you...
