The distance

Well, I wrote this really quickly, so it's very simple. But it's honest, so I figure that's gotta count for something.
A mile for each memory.
A tear for every dream.
A night for all the silences
That time does not redeem.
The distance pulls her further.
The pictures fade behind my eyes.
The stars fill up with emptiness.
In the darkness, the twilight cries.
I know she's out there somewhere.
In the space beyond my gaze.
I try to make myself stop caring,
But my heart never obeys.
Sick with love and longing,
It stumbles over every beat,
Struggling to regain its rhythm,
Bruised and weakened with each defeat.
I search every face for her smile,
And listen for her voice in the breeze.
I replay the past in my mind,
And memorize the moments I can seize.
I know it isn't over.
I know I'll see her again someday.
But tonight the sky is lonely.
And she feels so far away.
