I recently read that there is a difference between drugs prefixed as dl- (racemic) and d/l- (racemic racemate?) what is this difference exactly?

An oblique slash!
There's no difference, just two ways of saying the same thing

That's what I thought, but someone at a discussion page at Wikipedia had said:
"You are wrong. Adderall is d/l-amphetamine racemic while Benzedrine is dl-amphetamine (a racemic racemate.) They all are different and (especially the difference between racemic amphetamine and dextro-amphetamine) each article gives the specifics for their differences."
Which made me wonder if there was indeed a difference.

The term "racemic racemate" is pointless.

"Racemic racemate"??
Let's add another related but unnecessary word: pleonasm.
what wikipedia says is almost correct:
there are of course d l mixtures which are not 50:50 they are not optically inactive and are not racemic mixtures. A racemic mixture is a 1:1 mixture of the two enantiomers, any other ratio and it is not racemic by definition.
adderrall is a mixture of racemic dl amphetamine and d amphetamine, they are added separately. Aderall is Not racemic dl amphetamine
so adderall is strictly d amphetamine, l amphetamine mixture not dl-amphetamine and is not racemic. this could be said to be non racemic d/l amphetamine.
there is a difference between dl-amphetamine and d/l-Amphetamine the implication is that the former is racemic 1:1 ratio, the latter may or may not be racemic.
it makes a significant difference if the two enantiomers have different ADME or activity.

Like the two optical isomers of MDA (what does ADME stand for?)

That still doesn't justify the poor usage of language that scientists so often employ!
"Racemic mixture" definitely sounds better

It seems so obvious now I feel like a right fool! :D

I knew it as LADME... L for liberation, if you include pharmacokinetics of the formulation itself.

Wikipedia is only as correct as you choose to make it ;-) but it wasn't in an article it was on a discussion page, so don't judge it by that.

So the "slash" means it isn't exactly half & half but it contains both levo & dextro, and the "dl" without a slash is proper 50% of each? Ah, thanks.
