We all love our movies. Those who know me know that catching films is one of my upmost hobbies and writing about them another (shameless plug for film review web site: http://infilmau.iah.net). There are certain movies that you can just see over and over again, in any kind of mood/mental state, so I've compiled a list of definite 'druggie' movies that aren't neccessarily about drugs but have that twisted aura about them...Hopefully this list can be added to as time progresses!
THE LIST (of those I can think of at the moment):
* An obvious choice, a crack up every time, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS
* An eclectic Al Pacino as a cocaine crazed drug lord in SCARFACE
* GO and HUMAN TRAFFIC: again, obvious choices, both rewarding in what they offer -- GO, a bit of fun, the later, a touch of realism
* A character study adapted from a stage play in which Sean Penn stars opposite Kevin Spacey as an aggravated coke addict in HURLYBURLY
* Director John Woo in a poignant epic about friendship on both sides of the law -- see this one stoned -- THE KILLER
* Time and heros and space and earth gone totally warped in the trippy adventure flick THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHUESEN (spelling?)
* See this one on drugs and you'll be tripping out all the way home -- the bizarre and brilliant world of BEING JOHN MALKOVICH
* For a dark, disturbing, great example of filmmaking under a budget, the black and white sci fi ballad PI
* What is reality? What is not? Anyone familiar with David Cronenberg knows this guy makes some seriously fucked up movies
Great stuff, and amongst the more recent ones is EXISTENZ, about a virtual reality video game
* TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2: No explanation needed -- seriously fun stuff
* For a more 'realistic' touch and an insight into tobocco legalisation, can't go past THE INSIDER if you don't mind sitting down for awhile
* THE GAME: A mindfuck of a movie. Michael Douglas wonders around the set wondering what world he's in.
....and that's what I've come up so far. Add your favourite druggie movies and we'll exchange thoughts.
cheers! BuckE
