Anyone else seen The Bounty, with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins?

I think this is such an amazing movie. I was surprised to find out that none of my friends have seen it.

It's the true story of the ill-fated "Mutiny on the Bounty", where back in the 1790's, Fletcher Christian led the mutiny against the ships captain, William Bligh (Hopkins).

The story begins in England in the 1780's, where Captain Bligh is ordered to sail a ship from England to Tahiti, where his crew was to get breadfruit, which they would transfer from Tahiti to the Carribean, and sell as cheap food for the slaves in the Carribean. Due to the harsh and unfair actions of Captain Bligh, several of the ships crew take over the ship and set Bligh and his loyal followers adrift in the South Pacific. The reason for the mutiny is two things: Bligh's unfair attitude and the attraction and the woman of Tahiti.

"They were friends in hell, they were enemies in paradise".

The cinematography is beautiful, and the soundtrack by Vengalis helps capture the tension and lush beauty of Tahiti.

You also got Daniel Day-Lewis and Leem Neelson in this movie.

Highly recommended, one of my top 5 movies of all time.

+1

I thought my Mom and I were the only fans of this movie. I dig it--love the soundtrack (which is very hard to find, btw), love the acting (Hopkins narrowly steals the show), love the premise and the setting. It's also one of those rare movies that, for me anyway, never gets old.

Good topic.

Four out of five stars.

Have you ever done any research on Pitcairn Island? Now that's some interesting stuff. Christians decendants still live there to this day. The island itself only has about 50 people living there, almost all decendents of Bounty crew.

And i would love to get the soundtrack. I can imagine it'd be hard to find, but yeah, the music puts me in a trance.

Do you have Vangelis's "Themes"? Among other tracks, it has the opening and closing themes of the movie, which are better than nothing. :)
