Fawkes, congratulations!

That's really odd that your cervix would be shortening at week 9 of a singleton intrauterine pregnancy. The cervix is moved to shorten and dilate mostly due to mechanical stresses, as happens with a big active baby near term. If you need a cerclage, rest assured that it's not a difficult procedure. There's little residual pain or bleeding from it, and it's effective in most cases for keeping the cervix from changing. It just needs to be taken out before delivery, if you're going to deliver vaginally. My wife had a cerclage at 22wks, and had no nasty side effects from it.

Keep us updated!

News from the MDAO family: the axe could fall any minute now. My wife's liver function tests have risen, and she's mildly jaundiced. This is because her liver is being crammed up against the inside of her ribcage and diaphragm by the three babies. I spoke with her doctor (a high risk pregnancy doc) in person yesterday, and he still gave her good odds of making it to 34 weeks. But she then texted me this morning, to tell me that her liver functions tests have yet again risen, and that the delivery could be this Saturday. Gestational jaundice predisposes to stillbirth, for reasons nobody knows.

thanks ladies and gentleman! :) <3

MDAO: it's a very long story, but i experienced cervical stenosis a couple of years ago at which time my cervix had to be forcefully dilated. during the dilation procedure they noted that i had an unusually short cervix (during dilation the doc actually perforated my uterus!) and mentioned at the time i'd need to be monitored if and when i became pregnant. honestly, i'm not sure how much she could really tell during the dilation procedure due to the perforation.

further, my high-risk doc said that it's possible that my cervix was at a different angle or the tech at my OB's office measured incorrectly at 7 weeks (2.5-2.9 cm). i love my OB, but since my visit with the high-risk doc, i wonder if she's a smidge overly-cautious... which i suppose is good when you're talking about babies :) but has made us worry seemingly needlessly.

either way, the high risk doc felt very sure he got the correct measurement yesterday at 9 weeks (4.21 cm). as of now everything is thankfully, normal. though the more cerclage stories i hear, instills confidence that if it is something i must do, all will be okay. :) thank you for sharing your wifey's cerclage story; i actually thought of you both when i was researching the procedure because it seems pretty common with multiples.

my thoughts are with you and yours, MDAO. it sounds like a VERY exciting time for your brood right now.
