So it seems that i'm going to need a little bit of help with this whole baby-making thing. We're seeing a fertility specialist now. Stuff about cycles, etc behind the tag:

NSFW:
There is no talk of IVF yet, however i will need some surgery in the next month or 2 to make sure my endometriosis isn't flaring up (the procedure is now called a laparoscopic uterine uplift, heh). After that, i will need to see the specialist once a week in between my period to have blood taken - this will allow him to pinpoint, to the hour, when i'm ovulating. My cycle varies wildly, so there is no real rhyme or reason to it, which makes things difficult. On the plus side, all of our tests came back normal (hormones, etc) and we did all agree that now we're living in Brisbane, and far more relaxed, nature may just take its course. The first 8 or so months of this year have been absolutely horrific for my husband and I, so we're really just stepping back and chilling out.

I'll make sure to keep everyone updated along the journey <3 It's silly, but this thread has been so many things for me, it's given me hope, laughs, made me cry. You're all wonderful xx it's seriously one of my favourite threads on bluelight.

L2R - Little Felix is just so gorgeous, I can see more and more of you in him every time you post a photo <3

xenocat - thank you <3

Thank you, xenocat. :)

We're past the 28 week mark now, meaning we're out of the woods -- premies delivered from this point forward have the odds solidly in their favor for survival, with modern inpatient neonatal care.

My wife has had a few scares with serious bouts of contractions, itching all over, and suspected elevated umbilical cord blood pressure (equivocal findings). But her liver and blood tests came back fine -- she's not diabetic, preëclamptic, hypertensive, or in any kind of distress. And according to the ultrasounds, the babies are just fine too.

Next milestone: 32 weeks. Knock on wood.

Ocean - thank you honey - i feel the same way and will definitely keep you updated on all happenings - bubs and otherwise <3

MDAO - This is wonderful news, i come into this thread hoping to get updates about you and your little tribe <3 I'll be cheering you all on for 32 weeks, which i'm sure will fly-by without event :)

brilliant mate. utterly brilliant. mdao, you five have been in my concerns and thoughts since that last status. thanks for the news.

Oh Samadhi! I am sending some positive vibes your way down under ;) I don't know if you've started a blog, but I can tell you it really helped me through my journey. It was, and still is, a huge form of therapy for me. Best of luck to you and your husband. I see a chubby, healthy and smiling LO in your future ;)

I'm actually thinking about it, four. I won't be discussing it on places like facebook (not my way and i don't want to end up on stfuparents ;)), so I think I might. :)

Thank you for the words, too, they mean a lot.<3 I dreamed that i was pregnant last night; the two lines appeared on the test and then all of a sudden another woman and I were measuring our bellies!

MDAO, i am SURE you'll make it to 32 weeks! after that it's smooth sailing for you and the lady...well...as smooth as it possibly can be. <3 <3

samadhi - it will happen when the time is right <3 :)

Wonderful news :D You must be jumping out of your skin <3

As for my news, i've postponed my surgery until March - i've just been offered a new role with a Federal Govt organisation and this will mean AWESOME leave entitlements (including huge maternity leave when the time comes) so i want to settle in there a bit before i have the surgery. I'm also now seeing a naturopath and nutritionist - it turns out my hormones are out of whack, so i'm trying to remedy that naturally and with some weight loss (which is needed).

you know who made those entitlements possible? join your union, then give me a call <3

Quit sugar quit sugar quit sugar quit sugar <3

I am currently on my period so not pregnant. This is a good thing as we don't want children yet. Which has not much to do with anything but I was feeling a bit left out with nothing to contribute to the thread ;)

Hehe, Jo, it's something my naturopath has told me to do - including no fruit for the next little while. I have to clear up my hormones and the digestive issues i have - currently being fed by the metric fucktonne of sugar i have (processed/carbohydrates). So today was the first day of no fruit. BOO.

Samadhi, don't rush it. Definitely get second opinions and recheck your bloodwork frequently before you go monkeying with your hormone levels. Of course, eliminating processed foods is good for everyone.

L2R, does your little guy know any phrases of Chinese? I'm imagining him throwing a healthy "bu yao!" at you when you or his mother try to give him something he doesn't want.

Mrs. Doors has gotten the official word that her three little ones are finished developing, except of course for their lungs, which finish developing at eight years old. Now they're just growing -- and boy are they ever! My wife has put on over 50 pounds. She's become anemic, because the uterus is taking up an enormous amount of her blood supply in order to deliver nutrients for baby growth. So she's now on IV iron, as well as erythropoietin, the hormone that tells your bone marrow to produce more red blood cells. Other than that she's doing well. She's been told that it's essentially "any day now", or as long as she'll tolerate. So once she reaches a point where she's contracting uncontrollably or in some other form of constant discomfort, they'll take her down to labor and delivery and slash her. That could happen this coming week, or 2~3 weeks from now. Nobody really knows.

We have names picked out. If anyone wants to know them, PM me. (For the sake of my career, I don't care to post personal information that could so easily link this account to me).

This is all just such wonderful news MDAO :D Thank you for the words, too. My hormone levels are already out of whack, so eliminating a few things from my diet will hopefully help to regulate them <3 PM on its way!

mdao, your saga has been crazy, but i'm so glad to read that essentially the best possible outcome is happening. <3

lulz, what does a seven month old not want? !
edit: i thought of one thing, a bottle. he cries at the mere sight of one. :D insistance of bewbs, just like his daddy. =D

7 months old today, of which the last four we've been separate. almost there, just 9 days to go.

i've been going back and forth on whether to post this, but fuck it. :)

i am very excited to announce i am going to be a mommy in June! because i'm only 9 weeks, i'm not making it super formal via fb announcements (har har!), but i had an excellent visit with my doctor yesterday and i'm bursting. :)

my first prenatal was at 6 weeks and before the ultrasound we were warned we probably wouldn't hear the heart beat since it was so early but, lo and behold, there on the screen was a tiny flicker. i can't tell you the pride i felt that our baby grew it's heart so fast!

my second ultrasound was a week later and there they measured my cervix since i have some history with cervical issues. at that time, although it was a good visit to see that the baby was progressing, it was a really scary appointment since they determined my cervix was on the short side measuring at 2.5-2.9 cm (they like to see it above 3 cm and short is under 2.5 cm). my OB said that we had a long battle ahead and if we hadn't made any announcements, to continue to wait. there was a lot of talk of a cerclage (a stitch to reinforce the cervix), bed rest, weekly injections to prevent pre-term labor, appointments and ultrasounds every two weeks... it was really frightening! my OB, who admitted to seeing two patients with a shortened cervix a year, referred me to a high-risk specialist.

the appointment with the high-risk doc was two weeks later and during that time i learned my mom was diagnosed with a shortened cervix after losing a baby at 5 months. she had a cerclage placed when she became pregnant with my sister and carried without issue to term. so, although we were super nervous and scared, it felt good to know that my own mom was a positive example of a good outcome.

this brings me to yesterday when we met with the high-risk doc. he checked the embryo, which is developing perfectly, and measured my cervix in several different positions getting an average measurement of 4.21 cm!!! woohoo!!! my cervix is at a great and totally normal length and there's no need for a cerclage!!! given my history, it could change and they’ll continue to monitor me on a somewhat regular basis especially once my cervix softens and the baby gets heavier, but for now, at least until Dec 20 when i go in for my next cervical measurement, i'm going to allow myself to be relieved and most of all finally excited. :D
