John Ibrahim top guard Tongan Sam snared in drug raid

By Yoni Bashan
July 12, 2009 12:00am

THE bodyguard and right-hand man of nightclub identity John Ibrahim Semi Ngata - known widely by his nickname "Tongan Sam" - was arrested after Gangs Squad detectives swooped on his Merrylands home in April.

He is the chief lieutenant and confidant of Mr Ibrahim, who has been charged by police but never convicted of anything.

Allegations were made at the Wood Royal Commission that Mr Ibrahim was a Kings Cross drug baron but no findings were made against him and he strongly denies any connection to organised crime.

The pair have worked with each other for more than a decade, with Ngata permanently by Mr Ibrahim's side as his top bodyguard and adviser.

Court documents reveal that when officers from Strike Force Raptor entered Ngata's Price St home they found a bullet-resistant vest, ammunition and nearly 700 tablets containing the precursor drug pseudoephedrine, which can be used to make "ice".

Ngata, 51, was charged by police with possessing pseudoephedrine intended to be used in the manufacture of a prohibited drug.

During the raid on Ngata's home, authorities also seized "items of clothing", which are believed to include leather jackets and other paraphernalia related to the ruthless street gang Notorious, the court heard.

Ngata's case was heard before Chief Magistrate Graeme Henson on Tuesday, when the prosecution argued for it to be put over so results of DNA and fingerprint analysis could be returned.

If convicted, Ngata could face a maximum of 10 years behind bars. The arrest is another unwanted distraction for Mr Ibrahim, who insists he is a "legitimate businessman".

It follows the attempted assassination of his brother, Fadi, outside his Castle Cove home in May.

Police were led to Ngata through his son Nimilote, 21, an up-and-coming debt collector and emerging Kings Cross identity who works closely with the Ibrahim family.

More commonly known as "Nim", he is understood to have worked closely with John Ibrahim's older brother, Sam.

Police intelligence on Nim Ngata shows he is a patched member of the Notorious street gang, while his father maintains "links to the same group".

Kings Cross police began their investigation into Nim Ngata following a violent bashing outside the trendy Dragonfly Nightclub, a known haunt of Notorious members, on March 2.

Despite maintaining no financial interest in the Dragonfly, Kings Cross sources told The Sunday Telegraph that John Ibrahim controls the books, staffing and budgeting at the venue.

Court documents allege that just after midnight, Nim Ngata, who was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding, violently assaulted a man outside the Earls Place venue.

The victim, 22, who is "known to police", was allegedly robbed of his wallet, driver's licence, $30 and a Nokia N95 mobile phone before being savagely beaten to the point where he required surgery to his face.

Hells Angel bikie claims he won $200,000 in betting chips

By Mark Butler and Lisa Davies

The Daily Telegraph

A HIGH-rolling Hells Angel will fight for more than $200,000 he claims was a legitimate casino windfall, but police allege is proceeds of crime.

Accused gunman Wayne Rodney Schneider, 30, was involved in a big-punting spree at Melbourne's Crown Casino which left him holding more than $200,000 in betting chips and plaques.

Within days detectives found the booty in a search of Schneider's car, confiscating it and charging him with dealing in property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

However, sources have told The Daily Telegraph Schneider will fight the charges claiming he legitimately won the money at Crown Casino - and he wants it back.

A large amount of cash was also found in a satchel in Schneider's car when police pounced on his vehicle in the Sydney suburb of Waverton on July 17.

Schneider had been gambling in one of Crown's exclusive high roller rooms with other Angels during a trip south this month.

Casino spokesman Gary O'Neill said Crown could not comment on the matter.

Police allege "an amount of casino chips valued at $205,100 were found".

Police said a man who was a member of the Hell's Angels outlaw motorcycle gang was taken to North Sydney Police Station after being arrested.

He was charged with six counts of possessing restricted substances and two counts of dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Schneider was granted bail on strict conditions, including he not leave NSW "for any reason".

He also had to sign an agreement not to associate with any Hell's Angels member nor attend their City Crew Chapter clubhouse.

He is under a night-time curfew, prohibited from leaving his Mosman house between 8pm and 6am.

He surrendered his passport and will face North Sydney Court on August 11.

More recently Schneider has come under scrutiny from Task Force Raptor, which has been hammering bikies with a wave of arrests, searches and asset confiscation amid increasing concern in NSW over bikie violence.

Raptor was formed in March after the brother of a Hell's Angels member, Anthony Zervas, was bashed to death at Sydney Airport.

Sources told The Daily Telegraph that criminals used casino chips as currency, paying others with them for goods such as drugs.

Warning as 60 outlaw bikies head to Darwin

By Iskhandar Razak

Posted Fri Jul 31, 2009 10:42am AEST

Up to 60 members of the Odin's Warriors are expected to be in Darwin this weekend as part of an organised "bike run", which police say could alarm members of the public.

Gang members, who are expected to travel to Queensland after their stint in Darwin, will be wearing patches showing their allegiance to the club, police say.

Acting Superintendent Clinton Sims says police will not tolerate any illegal activity.

"If people choose to participate as members of outlaw motorcycle gangs, they can expect police attention we believe our community would expect nothing less of us," he said.

"We are expecting up to 60 patched members in Darwin over the weekend so they are not going to be inconspicuous and some of our community may find them alarming and intimidating."

Police arrested a man on Wednesday who was travelling in a car between two groups of bikies near Tennant Creek.

He was allegedly caught with 1500 tablets of MDMA with a street value of $75,000.

The man is expected to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court this morning.

“Draconian and undemocratic: Why Bikie laws won’t work”

Wednesday 05, August 2009
Outspoken critic, group spokesperson and club founder discuss

Professor Paul Wilson, Ferret and Rev Dr John (Bullfrog) Smith

New anti biker legislation was introduced in South Australia and New South Wales in 2009 resulting from a brawl at Sydney Airport in March involving up to 15 people and resulting in one death. Queensland , Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have all flagged their intention to follow suit.
The new laws give police the power to apply to for an order that would ban members identified in outlawed motorcycle gangs from associating with each other. These laws lower the burden of proof for biker gang-related crimes from ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ to ‘on the balance of probabilities’.
Critics have described the laws, which specify targeted groups, as draconian, undemocratic and a breach of civil liberties.

Professor Paul Wilson is the Professor of Criminology at Bond University and an outspoken critic of these new laws which he sees as selective, dangerous and ineffective. He feels these association laws are misplaced given the small amount of serious crime biker groups are involved in. There is a stronger argument for such laws to be applied to some financial advisors and bankers, criminal police officers and some men of the cloth than there is with bikers.
Professor Wilson will draw relevant comparisons with Canada, Scandinavia and the United States, where laws targeting groups rather than individuals have failed to significantly reduce crime rates, particularly in outlaw motorcycle groups. Professor Wilson believes that in deciding how to deal with any type of organised crime, including biker crime, modern democratic governments should not be persuaded by political propaganda or lobbying by interest groups, but rather, by evidence-based research and best practice.
Professor Wilson will be joined by bikers Ferret and Dr John Smith.

Ferret is the spokesperson for the United Motorcycle Council NSW. UMCNSW is a coalition of 18 motorcycle clubs and aims to provide clubs and individuals with an avenue for dispute resolution. It also aims to break down some of the negative stereotypes about motorcycle clubs and members, and allow bikers to have a say in issues that affect them. Widely known in the Sydney motorcycle community- Ferret has a wealth of knowledge about the interests and values of motorcycle clubs and their members. He has been a member of The Finks for 22 years and is currently a member of Blacktown Chapter.
As a small business owner in Sydney’s Western suburbs, Ferret enjoys the sense of brotherhood and passion for motorcycles the motorcycle club brings to his life. Ferret has been a bike enthusiast since he was a kid. Now with two daughters and five grandkids of his own, he is proud to be nominated as a spokesperson for a community that has become an important part of his life.
“In Australia we have communities based around surfing and hanging out at the beach. Other people gather to watch V8 racecars on their weekends. Most people have something in their lives they like to share with others. Bikies like to meet other people who are enthusiastic about motorcycles.”

Rev Dr John “Bullfrog” Smith is International and Founding President of God’s Squad Christian Motorcycle Club which has been operating in Melbourne for 38 years. God’s Squad (the club primarily exists to minister among the 'outlaw biker fraternity' and associated groups, where it is an accepted and relevant expression of the Christian church). It has 8 other chapters around Australia and is also now located in New Zealand, United Kingdom, Norway, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, USA and the Ukraine. John is also founder and Director of Mission and Ethos of Concern Australia (a Christian mission, advocacy and welfare organisation) and is currently Visiting Scholar at St Mark’s Theological College in Canberra.
John is an author, a business speaker, a teacher and lecturer, a biker, a defender of the poor and marginalised, a lover of jazz and blues music, a gifted evangelist and a prominent social communicator. He has a doctorate majoring in Cultural Anthropology.
He was a member of the Prime Minister’s Australia 2020 Summit, “Strengthening Communities, Supporting Families and Social Inclusion” stream.
John’s involvement in the human rights debate extends from civil disobedience in Queensland on behalf of aborigines to incarceration and sentencing to execution on the Philippines island of Mindanao for human rights protests on behalf of peasant villagers (his release was in part due to the media’s involvement).
He is as much at home talking to business leaders, academics, church leaders, politicians and the media, as he is with school children, university students, the poor and marginalised, and outlaw motorcycle club members. He is welcome in most of the motorcycle clubhouses around Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and has spoken at churches and music festivals all over the world.

After years, and years, and years of being left alone for the most part to do their own thing, doling out inter and intra club justice on an ad hoc basis, the major MCs are now being targetted religiously.

Despite the fact that the 1%er creed demands instant retribution for any affront to the colours, I bet everyone regrets the punch on at the airport.

Bikies arrested in drug raids

August 06, 2009 03:22pm

Bikies were among eight people arrested during a series of drug raids across Sydney, breaking a major drug distribution network, police say.

100 officers raided 10 residential properties in various Sydney suburbs including Chatswood in the city's north this morning

"(We) have arrested eight offenders and allegedly broken a major drug distribution network within the metropolitan area," Assistant Commissioner Supt Frank Mennilli said.

The raids come after four months of investigations, Mr Mennilli said.

"During this time in excess of 3,000 ecstasy tablets have been seized as well as cocaine and ice," he said.

The eight people arrested are being questioned and are expected to be charged with various drug offences later today.

They include two men aged 21, as well as other men aged 25, 53, 38 and 54, and women aged 18 and 51.

"We believe that a number of the offenders involved in the distribution and sale of these drugs are linked to OMCG (outlaw motorcycle gangs)," Mr Mennilli said.

He could not say if those arrested were gang members or if they had other links.

A 21-year-old man taken into custody is believed to be the principal of the drug syndicate.

It is unknown if any of the drugs made it to the streets.

Ecstasy tablets seized in the raids carried a distinctive Ferrari emblem, police said
