☛ Official ☚ The Big & Dandy Scale / Balance Thread - Part 2.000±

Just looking at some Solent Scales SSPR 200/001 for £40 on ebay!?
Think I'm gonna get some after the seller gets some feedback on them.

Hi rc weighing bluelighters, I have a problem for you should you choose to solve it for me!

I own this scale and use it to weigh: http://www.proscale.net/proscale_precision_10.htm

it works great, and it's cheap online (like 20-30 bucks marked down from 70), I use it all the time.

-But, I lost the instructions for how to calibrate it. I like to calibrate it before I use it, can any BLer that has it and still has that little card tell me how to calibrate it?

I emailed the company some time ago and they never responded.

lol, for a second there I thought I read proscaline.

I wouldn't trust them knowing where you've seen them.
I've seen that same store previously selling scales that are available on ebay for a tenner of upwards of £20.
Almost definitely not reliable.
There maybe someone a bit more qualified to respond mind.

A friend asked me to weigh a gelcap of 2c-i once that someone had weighed out on an apparent cheap ebay scale that was supposed to be 20mg -- my analytical balance read 36mg.

I can vouch for the accuracy of the Tanita 1210 as I'd used it in the lab alongside other scales and the accuracy was always exact, but I don't know about some of these other models.

People shouldn't forget to buy a standard weight and to put the scale on a plain surface (with the right water level).
Even the best scale must be calibrated regularly.

I've got an American Weigh Gemini-PRO.
What's the word with this one?
Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to try it out.

scaled up

I just read a closed thread on scales... there doesn't seem to be a lot of talk on here about scales and measurements.... yet some of the substances we consume are active at single digit milligram quantities...

I feel that a quality scale is a staple foranyone who buys/sells/consumes drugs.....

I personally have a cheapo 0.1 (tenth) scale that I keep in my car to weigh out herb when I buy it

I also have a relatively cheap (25 on amazon, about 80 from scale vendors) 0.001 (milligram) scale that I use to weigh everything except herb...

I feel as though a lot of people forgo getting a scale because they just buy small amounts and can "eyeball" from there... but with a gram of k or molly this method is pretty piss poor...

Anyways how many people have scales... have had problems with scales... had problems not having one... etc...

i have a scale, and use it all the time. measures milligrams, and has a compartment in the back for spare batteries. comes with weights and tweezers. it takes it a minute to "warm up" but its fast and accurate. used it for bud once but its covered in different powders.

also, for everyone who weighs powders, theres this stuff called weighing paper. its light and has this coating like wax so powders dont stick to the paper. makes good funnels too for filling capsules or jars.

weighing paper

i used to have a paint scale!

best scale i ever used... did up to 18 kg in .1s... fit a 5 gallon bucket perfect... i think they are 7-800$

Scales are cheep now days at that online auction site. A new 0.1 tenth gram for $10 I seen the milligram scales "used and or out of China" for around $20 they seem to be the same brand name as ones being sold from the US for $40. It would just take two weeks shipping from China.

Would OP like me to move this to the big and dandy scale thread in Psychedelic Drugs? Homeless is a weigh station on the way to some other destination overall. Scales are relevant to every Focus Forum and several Drug Discussion ones.

That would be awesome... I didn't see that thread... thanks @enki

I'm going to buy a scale to measure 2C-E, for research purposes of course ;). I'm torn between these two:

American Weigh Gemini-20

American Weigh GeminiPRO-20

I know the Gemini 20 isn't too accurate, but I can't find any reviews on the Gemini PRO 20. I hear that if you buy scales below $200 or so, the general quality and accuracy of them are pretty much the same, and you're better off buying the cheapest you can buy. However, can I get any input on the Gemini PRO 20? Is it worth the extra $30?

Thanks!

[EDIT]

I think I might just go all out and get the MyWeigh GemPro 250, but I just found another scale that's supposed to be pretty accurate called the Ohaus YJ103. Can anybody chime in?

Gemini 20- too fast turn-off

I've got a Gemini 20, and I think I've been generally happy with it - except for the 'power save' turn off seems to happen way too fast for me. It turns itself off in only 90 seconds - which is pretty frustrating when one is trying to carefully manipulate just the right amount of powder onto the pan.

Does anyone have any advice on how to keep it from doing this? Do others that use this scale see similar behavior? Perhaps I need fresher batteries?

On a similar theme, I've been following the practice of putting a bit of foil on the pan and substances on the foil, to keep things tidy. Is this a good practice, or is it better to use a tiny beaker or something of this nature? I tend to try to close the cover when I've just about gotten things right to prevent the influence of drafts.

a scale with the option to plug in to the wall is a nice feature, in case your batteries die on you.

in general i believe most of the cheap scales are actually the same on the inside (the actual force-sensor) with different cases, screens, or buttons. sometimes you get a bad one that never reads right, but usually they're all similar accuracy as long as your batteries are fresh.

EDIT: to Pontiac, my scale does NOT activate the power-save if the mass keeps changing. so as long as you keep working with the material (that is, lifting the tray off the scale and placing it back on) every 80 seconds, you should be fine. this is also a good way to confirm that the scale is not drifting as you add material (make sure it still reads 0.000 when the tray is off)
