The Big & Dandy 'Nausea and Psychedelics' Thread

i had really bad nausea from shroom tea, but it subsided after about 45 minuts, then i started shroomin hard. Never have had nausea from MDMA or K.

Anxiety and/or nausea seem to be a manifestation of some psychosomatic reaction to the release of subconcious material in some people. AFAIK, the only ones where true nausea is a factor are 2C-T-2, 2C-T-7 (possibly due to MAOI activity?), mescaline (from the sheer size of the dose) and of course 5-methoxylated tryptamines - 5-MeOAMT is the absolute worst IMO - due to their effect at the 5HT3 receptor.

There may be others that I've missed, but it's because I'm being a bit slow at the moment! :D

What about Synthetic Mescaline extracted from cactus? Im fixin to give that a go in the summer and am currious as to how that affects your stomach as opposed to consuming non synthetic mescaline. <3 F&B your such a smartie ;)

ohhhh not synthetic if extracted... YOUR CRAZY <3 my bad ;)
*mescaline extract yummyness*

come over and play with it with me <3

Saw a friends wife doing Olympic level barfing after some synthetic mescaline, so I'd say that's just adding weight to the mescaline being the main culprit (although the tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids found in peyote def wouldn't help)

F&B your such a smartie

You wouldn't be saying that if you'd just seen me 90 minutes ago - having a panic attack in a dentists waiting room while full of ketamine (had to get a lower jaw filling and local anaesthetics don't seem to work too well anywhere on my lower jaw, hence the additional analgesia). Smart was the very antithesis of that display...

^Oh no's, hugs?? <3 You know, I get chronic anxiety- not at the dentists though. I usually doze off while being drilled- its one thing that doesn't bother me. Speaking to the dentist- now that does :\ :D F&B- is mescalines effects on the dopamine system responsile for the nausea/vomiting?

Don't forget regular AMT, love it but it makes me and everyone else I've ever met nauseous as hell for several hours unless you get a good throw up. And its def just due to being a nauseating drug. It feels like a stomach flu for the second hour before it even kicks in

^ Ah, forgot about that, probably because it doesn't cause me much nausea at all

is mescalines effects on the dopamine system responsile for the nausea/vomiting?

Possibly, or it could just be the irritant effect of such a large dose of an alkaloid on the stomach lining. Probably a mixture of thing, I honestly couldn't say for certain

Mushrooms & Nausea

My dilemma is quite simple, whenever i dose over 4 grams of cubensis, I always get nausea. I find that nausea during a intense trip can be very discomforting and in fact ruin the peak / trip all together. I remember the worst nausea I got was when I took 6.8 grams of cubensis (first high dose ever).

Is the nausea from the intense visual distortions? Spinny objects, moving your vision to the right when everything speeds up to the left, all around movement of objects making your body feeling unusually out of place forcing nausea onto yourself.

Or is the nausea caused from the amount of fungus in your stomach

I've taken diphenhydramine a couple times on 4 grams and had only about two couple minute rushes of nausea during the trip and it seems to help it a lot. But the only problem is that I get very lethargic when taking diphenhydramine on shrooms. It's not too big of a bummer because shrooms give me that really easy going relaxed feeling, but if I want to go on walks it makes it even more difficult when my coordination is already wacked.

What ways do people deal with nausea on mushroom trips? Any methods or supplements / chemicals people like to take to subside the nausea? If the nausea comes from fungus being in your stomach, does mushroom tea take the nausea away?

any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! =D

It's probably just your body's reaction to fungus in your stomach. I uh... don't get nausea when I eat shrooms. I get nausea on 2ce, but it's not that bad, so I deal.

Antacids and bread supposedly help though. And do you eat before you dose? Maybe eating/not eating will help. I imagine if your body has something else in your stomach... or even if you ground them up and put them in ice cream or something. Eating them is pretty disgusting, that makes me sick for a minute. Orange juice does wonders though. ;) good luck.

I don't think it's from the intense visuals, although they might certainly contribute. Personally, I usually counter the nausea during the come-up with some weed. I rarely experience any nausea during the peak.

Have you tried making the tea? I find that the nausea is greatly diminished or altogether eliminated if no actual fungal matter is consumed. Just steep and strain the shrooms 3 times, in separate cups of water, to get most of the alkaloids into the tea, then simply discard the leftover fungi and drink all 3 cups.

I really have never got nausea from anything besides DXM and alcohol and the best cure for that is cannabis. However if you have no tolerance to cannabis then it can be anxiety inducing so watch out for that.

I had literally debilitating nausea during the last time i did mushrooms. i threw up, threw up again and i still felt nauseous.

Next time im planning on making a tea. :)

^ Yeah, tea is great. It also kicks in much faster and makes the peak more intense IME. It also shortens the trip somewhat, which might or might not be a good thing, depending on your preference. I usually prefer to just eat the shrooms these days, but if I'm taking a high dose or have fresh shrooms I definitely prefer the tea method to minimize nausea and avoid eating large quantities of nasty-tasting fungi.

yah ive been told to not dose *too* high as it comes on very quick.

Ive never tried the tea, only ate them so im excited to try this method.

EDIT: now that i think about it, that was the first time ive not smoked weed during the trip, could have to do with the intense nausea. also i think my stomach is picky :)

Yeah I usually smoke pot during the come-up as well. Personally, I've found that I like my trip much less if I don't smoke pot, but it's probably because I was a heavy smoker back when I first got into mushrooms and smoking was simply default for me when I was tripping. Also, smoking during the comedown is just lovely for me, couldn't imagine enjoying the trip even remotely as much without. It is however not recommended for everyone, though - if you're not very accustomed to weed it might enhance anxiety, which I find is usually very strong with mushrooms to begin with.

thanks for all the replies. First off, some people say that weed clouds the trip, but in my honest opinion sativa's have enhanced my thinking to a new level the two times I have smoked on mushrooms.

My problem is that I can no longer smoke weed, so "the best" method of subsiding nausea just isn't an option right now. On the other hand, if it is the fungus material making my stomach upset, I'll def give that tea method a try. I've only started to use mushrooms more frequently in the past year and from my preferences I like to eat them in a sandwich. I find that grinding it up greatly shortens the peak effects. Also when grinded up it feels like the come up is a lot more god awful intense on the body load.

But making the tea for higher doses doesn't seem all that bad. Whenever I'm doing high dose trips it's always fun to distract my mind with those nods to another void while the body is on edge with the come up. <3

Since extracting alkaloids via water, and not consuming the fungus matter, do you tend to need more substance as all the alkaloids don't get extracted?

Also, someone told me ginger root helps a lot, I know they have ginger root in some Yogi Tea for stomach decongestion and another one i forget the name. YOGI tea is bomb if anyone likes good herbal teas. Yogi Bed time tea is my all time favorite.

now where were we? =D
