The Big & Dandy 'Nausea and Psychedelics' Thread

when I threw up on acid (and on one high-dose excursion with MDMA), the trip got wayyyy intense as others have mentioned. I didn't feel nauseous for the remainder of the experience, and immediately after the vomiting, I felt like a new man.

I'm not looking to find a cure for the psychedelic nausea. The "purge" feels like it's almost necessary for the trip.

it seems that this happens even with substances that aren't indoles, like DXM...

hm, interesting phenomenon. we need F&B in here... *dog whistle*

i ahve not done any of the research chemicals but im pretty experienced with shrooms i would say. The nausea off shrooms used to be not that bad almost like a butterflies feeling in your stomach, but 1 day i bought 2 e pills and this was the first time throwing up off e and i threw up alot. After that i couldn't take pills without gagging and when i do drugs that give nasea i throw up and it kills my trip(somtimes i can hold it down). I have heard of ginger beening used but never tried it myself hope it works. :D

on my first 2cb trip I puked rainbow vomit and then found myself sinking into the blissful all encompassing hole that was my carpeted living room floor 8o Definitely increased in intensity the second I started puking.

I also ALWAYS get psychedelic nausea... it sucks 8) but I find that deep breathing, pot and water always help me.

Same here (but with 2ce) It's become somewhat of an in-joke amongst my friends now.

Still, I don't enjoy vomiting even if it does increase the trip. Its still an unpleasant experience. Especially combined with extreme time dilation. I felt like I was spewing for at least 6 hours (which could not have been true...)

^does for me, and the tastyness is a plus as well..
the carbonation of ginger ale settles my stomach too i've noticed..
same goes with any soda without caffeine, the carbonation makes me burp which'll make my stomach feel a bit better

It's not the "purge" that bothers me. I'd say I puke from smoking pot once every two or three weeks, and it never bothers me at all, because I just spontaneously puke with no warning. It's the nausea leading up to the purge that sucks, and when I have bad nausea and can't induce vomitting, I'd rather just eat something and get it over with; I'd figure that the purge helps a trip by some sort of psychological mechanism, probably the huge feeling of relief and euphoria that comes from such a rapid cure to an uncomfortable feeling. It's helpful for sure, but I bet it doesn't have a physical method backing it up, and it probably helps just as much as any other thing that feels good.

idk. i usually dont get nausea on any psych that ive tried. i think i did on mushies a few times, but i usually just smoke a bowl.

never tried ginger or peppermint. good to know tho!

yeah, ginger beer is good. haven't really tried fresh ginger yet.

weed is a big no-no for me! psychedelics are potent enough already, there's no need to rapidly increase my thought-processes even more, imo.

but yes, the nausea phenomenon is strange. why does it happen?

i think part of the reason people get that feeling where they 'regret' having ingested something is probably due to the nausea, more than anything. the comeup is the least enjoyable part of the experience for me. i try to sit still and let it pass.

usually i puke more on phens than tryps.

a)-the most major reason: its a minor sort of serotonin sndrome...the agonism of the psychedelic also affects the serotonin receptors in your gut, and makes yuo feel sick.

b) the odd feelings of balance/body distortion/ect cause something sort of like motion sickness

c) sometimes due to a feeling of general anxiety caused by physedelic comeups.

apparently Remeron (Mirtazapine) works on the 5-HT3, in the same way as Zofran (this according to the Wiki entry). it's more common and a lot cheaper so just FYI. i haven't experimented yet.

wow, that's interesting. i wonder if its other properties will work with psychedelics. sounds promising

understand that it's simply your consciousness floating inside of your body.

I always utilize breathing exercises. I also see a psychiatrist that helps me deal with my anxiety, she has given me wonderful tips to help deal with sudden attacks. Which I also found out work very well whilst tripping too hard/ nausea ( I have the weakest stomach on earth, esp w/ mdma, hallucinogens/tryptamines(the worst), as well as opiates.

I just keep repeating that everything is okay, theres nothing to worry about, and to not let my mind over run my physical/mental condition. I always know that my mind is more powerful than the anxiety. I also find out that when I'm tripping, and I'm starting to get sick, I start swallowing, alot. If I count slowly and spit instead of swallow(hehe) the excess saliva, exercise my breathing, eventually everything turns out okay. I guess you could say its like mediation, and now that I mention it, whenever I use those techniques my trip ends up being a bit more empathetic.

thanks all

yeah its weird. everything else is great just really bad nausea. it wont ruin the night. i usually dont get ANY nausea.

just recently with something going around.

has this ever been answered here in depth?

why some types of the same chemical make you feel great (like the flying pyramids which were amazing....and those BLACK pyramid GELs with the gold spot on them..man those made you feel like your whole body was perfect...but that was all around 1995-1998) for example and some which are the same chemical make your stomach feel wretched? i am not a chemist so i dont understand how it would happen but are there ways of getting a dirtier form of something? precursors (i hear that term on hear lot...what does it mean exactly?) and ON THE SAFETY SIDE OF THIS is there ever really a way of knowing what your taking is safe? if its making you puke could it be a bad batch?

just questions i have never really had answered. once i stopped believing in strychnine (around age 16) i knew there had to be other factors making some acid feel so CLEAN and others so DIRTY.

can anyone take a shot at these questions?

thanks

Wow, I've never gotten any kind of nausea from LSD. As for the "squeaky-clean" versus "down and dingy" L debate, this one still rages on...no one knows the exact chemical etiology yet. Some claim iso- and lumi-lysergamide breakdown products or poor purification/chromatography of the final product, leaving side product residuals. Hell, others still invoke the old "set and setting" idea. It still baffles me, because I have a lot of chemistry and pharmacology education and experience and the scientist in me wants to say: LSD is LSD is LSD. But the person who has taken squeaky-clean, totally side-effect free L knows that nothing else feels quite as perfect.
