The Big & Dandy Natural Psychotropics and Ethnobotanics Thread

^Clever...but of course you realise I invented psilocin and psilocybin? So pay up for all the free trips you've been having Earthlings! Actually, Gordon Wasson tred to patent magic mushrooms after he 'disocovered' the mushroom cult of Oaxaca. Gotta love how white people always "find", "invent", "discover" things that were discovered found and invented millions of years ago....yea, we rok. :)

I'm trying to decide whether to eat some amanitas tonight, I was meant to be going out and danicng with some LSD on head, but alas! I cant be fucked and have been planning to take these amanita's for a good while now....

^I'm only going from wiki there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesembrine tho this patent thing which is linked on the page, specifically about mesmbrine (which I am unaware if it is the major alkloid in kanna or not) is intriguing Is it not?

mesembrine is most likely not the main psychoactive constituent of kanna

In other news...yesterday I found that my work sells Leonotis leonorus...picked up two nice specimens.

ive got one of those growing on the side of my house ~3 foot tall bush.

nothing to get excited about, im about to rip the thing out...

I will shit myself if "5-CaO-DMT" turns out to be a legitimate anything but a pro-drug (and more likely a prank pulled by someone with enough chemistry knowledge to lead us on...). I tried just about every method of preperation with both A. perigrina and A. columbrina; including the "calcium bufotenate TEK" and found no real discernable difference in effects

Someone please, show me something legitimate about the benefits of 5-CaO-DMT over 5-Ho-DMT, please...

I like growing things. So many things on that list I need to plant. I've already grown some of them.

I need to get a new salvia plant, before it is made illegal.

There are some in that list I'd like to try.

I'll give my opinion of those I have used:

HBWR/LSAs - These have produced the most beautiful, meaningful, and helpful trips of my life. The side effects can be hard to tolerate, but it is definitely worth it if you can get past the physical suffering. I've grown these. They are easy to grow, but must be protected from cold. They do not flower until the second year. Morning glories would be better for non tropical environments. I've grown them too, and they are about the easiest thing to grow.

Cacti/mescaline - Mescaline is a really nice substance. It hasn't produced any +4 type trips for me, but it is fun and has given some meaningful and memorable experiences.

Salvia - Very intense and weird. I like it, but have not yet "broken through". It can be hard to grow. I've done it before, and my plants died. I'll try again.

Kratom - Very much like poppies, but more expensive. I'd like to try growing myself. Definitely worthwhile if you like opiates.

Desmanthus - Easy to grow outdoors, supposed to have pretty high DMT content. I've got some growing, but haven't used any yet.

Calamus - I haven't grown it, but I have had the misfortune of eating it. Not fun unless you like hours of puking, cramping, and puking some more with little or no psychoactive effects.

Kanna - I'd like to grow this. I've smoked it with good effects. It doesn't give a strong high, but there is a nice mood lift. Maybe I could get higher if I smoked more, but I am all out. It may be useful as an antidepressant. I'm going to buy a cutting and give it a try.

Sinicuichi - Never tried growing it. It is ok as an intoxicant in small or moderate amounts, but not very strong or psychedelic. Large amounts can cause the most painful muscle cramps you can imagine, all through the body.

Kava - This is pretty nice as a relaxant, sedative, and mildly euphoric. I don't know how easy it is to grow, but I may look into that.

Voacanga - I've eaten the seeds at low dose to see if it would do anything. It did not. Others have had vomiting and cramping from larger amounts, with little or no psychoactive effects. Not worth it.

Ephedra - Ok as a stimulant and appetite suppressant in small-moderate amounts. It can really raise BP and heart rate if too much is used. It is also easy to grow, from what I've read. I may grow some.

Catnip - May have mild sedative effects, may have been placebo. The taste of catnip tea is nice, IMO, so I'll drink it again in the future. I tried to grow some, but the seeds never came up. It should grow and spread like a weed once established.

I'd like to try lagochilus inebrians, coleus, and wild dagga. I'd try growing khat if I can get some seeds. And Iboga. I've been wanting to try ibogaine for a long time.

I can report on sinicuichi, didn't do anything at all, other than give me the most awful muscle aches the day after.

Seemingly vertine is a potent anticholinesterase, which got me more interested in wether perhaps, this plant might make a good nootropic.

@egore

i sampled iceplant on a few occasions years ago, its pretty much got the same things going on as kanna which i never found to have much to it i guess. maybe im missing something tho?

@tryptaminedreamer

kava is awesome but very difficult to grow, it takes years till it is worth harvesting and such, plus i think it may not be the most hardy plant... i dont know much about its cultivation tho i just thought id let ya know the above :)

@limpet

you need to ferment the plant in order to gain the proper effects, i have not myself tried the ferment but did try an extract of it years ago to very little effect.
its pretty easy to find some pointers on fermentation, it has always caught my eye as an interesting plant, good luck!

Yeah I know, I got some that had been ready-fermented and dried.

Its still sitting on one of my shelves actually, I never really experimented much with it, the first time was most unpleasant.

last night my cat at my khat plant. it was over a year old. the plant takes 3-5 years to reach maturity. :(

Don't eat calamus, chew it.

Damn :/ your poor cat, is your cat OK?

I've been waiting to get round to growing a few khat plants myself, although I can't actually use it, still, would be a good plant to add to my sadly now post-jail depleted ethnobotanical plant collection :)

Yeah, I had a similar experience... the muscle aches were unbelievably bad, more like a full-body fire of a pain. It made me feel like a feeble old man... here is my trip report.

Seemingly like I posted above, the main alkaloid, vertine/cryogenine is an anticholinesterase.

I am wondering if in low doses, it might be useful to imrove my shitty memory.

The first time I tried it though, I felt like someone gave me a really thorough pasting with a set of brass knuckles.

None, personally.

I had a 10% extract of it, it was like tar, and tasted rank, horrid peripheraly active shit, needs that oxygen removing...
