The Big and Dandy Scale Thread (First wave - archived 10-31-07)

While it's shown itself to be pretty inaccurate for rc's I have a scale accurate to the .01 g that I got on eBay for $20 bucks. This is a good 60 dollars cheaper than it would have been normally so I'm sure if you look around you could find some mg accurate scales on eBay for under $100.

EDIT: Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Airgun-Pellet-Digital-Scale-10g-0-001g-154gn-0-1gn-NEW_W0QQitemZ270012343940QQihZ017QQcategoryZ52509QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Don't know how good it is quality wise, but it just shows that you can find some for cheap if you look

^ No offense, but your scale is dangerous to use with most RCs, seeing as how all you can measure is 100mg intervals. Don't ever use that scale for anything more than weighing out buds, IMO.

Mine is accurate to 10 mg, the one I linked to is mg accurate, or so they say. You're still right though, .01 is still not accurate enough as I discovered through first hand experience. I dilute from now on.

duh! yeah I did the math wrong... I was thinking 10mg and wrote 100, but the point remains.

um, yeah.

I just ordered an Acculab VIC-123...based on the this dandy thread's posts...

If it's inaccurate, imprecise, or drifts like my better half's younger brother....I'm blaming all of YOU... ;)

anybody have experience with this scale:

JScale Jennings "JPrecision 10" Digital Diamond Scale

I asked a certain regular on this forum but I guess he didnt see my question fit for answering:|

That is in fact a good scale for the price (meaning it's a hellofa lot better than no scale at all). You should expect to have to weigh your samples a few times a piece and average your readings.

this scale does drift if you use the factory settings.

I use 1.1.4 and 1.3.4 (you'll know when you get it).

Also, it takes more than 3 seconds to stablize, and is very sensitive to temp fluctuations (don't keep your hands over the pan while waiting for your reading).

I find this scale to be much more reliable (accurate and repeatable) than my JPrecission 10.

Looks like I'm getting the Tanita 1230. If there is anything I need to know about this scale before I buy it, please speak now.

Just got the Acculab VIC-123 and, having worked with expensive analytical lab scales, I have to say that I'm really happy with it. Once it's leveled and calibrated, drift is minimal, and it seems precise to +- 1 mg. Adding standardized milligram weights incremented the readout by 1mg, i.e., there's no need to add 4mg to see a change. I feel that 5mg of a substance will be in actuality in the range of 4 - 6mg, which exceeds the precision needed for most compounds.

For things like the DOB/DOC/DOI series, a simple 10mg in 10mL water would make me confident that each mL contained 0.9 - 1.1mg/mL.

Of course it would be foolish to mess with B-DFLY with scales like this, but I would recommend that anyone thinking of buying a scale in the $100 - $200 range consider putting out a little more and get this one for $249 shipped.

What do you guys think about these? I will be weighing 2c-e but the Tanita or any other 150$+ scale is not an option.

I have the first one and would recommend it if you cannot afford anything else. IMO, it is imperative that one have a mg scale.

My Jprecision will do this (the following are #'s obtained while weighing 20mg ox X)
20
21
20
25
21
20
20
20
21
20

It jumps around a little bit, so when it was relied apon, I would always weigh a sample at least 10 times to get a decent average.

I have an 'American Weigh DIA-10'. Under 10mg its pretty sketchy, but it seems from reading this thread that most scales in this price range are. I've only used it for 2c-i, 2ct-2 and 4-AcO-DMT. I found that using the scale with liquid measurement made me feel much more at ease as it can't really be trusted. For something like 5-MeO-DMT or 2c-e, I would not feel comfortable at all.

Looking for a more accurate scale

I realize this may be closed soon after posting or after I get some answers, but after the DOI incident and me trading chemicals, I found that my scale isn't very accurate and would like a step higher in scales. I will have some DOC in a few days and I will not touch it untill I get a new and more accurate scale. I've been looking on ebay and they have some good deals. I just don't know if these scales are actually accurate to +/- 1mg

This scale seems like a good and cheap offer. Does anyone have any experience with this model?

Would anyone be willing to sell and/or accept a trade in and cash for a more accurate scale. If nothing comes about, I'm most likely going to order that scale mentioned. I still wouldn't feel very safe measuring DOx compounds but it would be a great step.

Someone please help :)
