So, I have an extremely terrible anxiety problem (you can read more about it in TDS "Entrapped in darkness.."). If I'm off medication, I experience "bad trip" feelings and thoughts sober. If I'm on medication, I can trip just fine on low doses.

But I want to face my fear and eventually go off medication. I basically want to "reformat" my brain so that I can create pathways to healthier states of mind. I need a drastic change of perspective to break away from my fear and become a completely person psychologically - one who has a calm awareness about life, and a trust that the universe is inherently well-ordered, safe, and loving.

I think psychedelics can help with this, but which one is the best? Ibogaine is out - there have been some deaths associated with it, and I am too terrified of physical death to try it. I was thinking maybe a high dose mushroom trip, one that would be strong enough to kill my ego so I can rebuild it.
What else might be good?

Thanks in advance... peace

clean mdma, or basically anything with the guidance of a trusted psychotherapist? i hope you're not going to try this alone!

First of all, get a sitter, a very close friend you would trust with your life (you just might feel like your life is in danger if your anxiety kicks in during the trip). As for what substance, maybe you should try dmt? It's super short acting, so if you end up having a bad trip, it won't last for 12 hours.

This is a tough one. Classical psychedelics can go too quick and bring your defenses up, I've found MDMA to be the best one for breaking through anxiety but it can only go so far.

You might be best of starting with MDMA and working your way up so to say.

I think going for a high dose mushroom trip right off the start can backfire.

I agree with PepperSocks, a high dose of mushrooms in the current state of mind could result in a very dark trip. Even though I'm not too familiar with MDMA, it sounds like a good idea to try that first and work up to either acid or mushrooms.

Well, I actually have done MDMA many times. It basically has stopped working for me. I get the body high and some mood lift, but no breakthrough....
I am experienced with mushrooms and LSD... But I have not done doses high enough to lose my ego

Get into meditation. Focus on breathing, guided imagery, and the technique where you slowly relax your body.

I dunno about a high dose, but if you're going to use a psych, my money is on mushrooms.

However, as PTCH said, CBT and a regular routine is probably better until you're more stable.

Ibogaine, duh.
Ayahuasca could probably do a good job as well.

In both cases you'll want to be around people you trust for the duration of the experience. One thing of note: Lower doses that push you to the edge of ego death without breaking through can make for worse experiences than doses high enough to cause ego death very quickly. Four or five grams of mushrooms might actually work out better than three, for example. Though if you have anxiety... yeah, it can get pretty bad.

5-MeO-DMT would do the job I guess, but only after you've faced your demons a thousand times.
N,N-DMT would be pretty good too.

The one that did it for me was high dose DXM...altho you'd better stop any meds you are on well before experimenting with it.

I'd go with LSD personally. But mushrooms would be a more natural way to go if that's what you're going for.

For me, Ketamine is the perfect drug for this (with DMT and AET coming in second).

It probably depends on the individual, but for many people drugs like LSD, mushrooms, even cannabis, can cause bad trips or at least increased anxiety when taken while feeling depressed/anxious to begin with. Though these drugs have great potential to improve depression/anxiety in many people, they are less consistent. MDMA and other emphathogens remove anxiety while on them, but afterwards often cause a bad comedown and sometimes depression and anxiety for days or weeks afterwards, especially when used frequently and in high doses.

A strong dose of K (K-hole dose) leaves me feeling like my brain has been entirely restarted. There's something about being entirely disconnected from the physical world for a short amount of time that puts life into perspective for me. Though bad trips are certainly possible on K, it seems to be far less common than with classical psychedelics.

Check out this wikipedia section on experimental use of Ketamine as an antidepressant:

Edit: I also want to say, you should not rely too strongly on drugs to "fix" your brain. There is no drug that will be a miracle cure for your problems. As Priesttheycalledhim suggested, look into different forms of therapy, healthy diet/exercise, meditation, and other options. Remember that every individual is different, and what helps one person may not help another, keep an open mind and don't rule out anything that may help.

Also, psychedelics are most likely more effective for these purposes when combined with therapy, look into some of the studies MAPS is doing with LSD and psilocybin for cancer patients.

Psychedelics will not accomplish what you seek to do. If you have an anxiety problem you should be on medications for it and you should be attending therapy regularly. You also should not be messing around with drugs. What is more important: Your mental health or the fleeting fun that comes from tripping? Believe me, I've been there; my mental health is more important. I used to believe that I would find "the answers" from psychedelics. How deluded I was.

If you want to improve your situation you need to take care of your mental health issues (anxiety being a big mental health issue) the proper way. You cannot disassemble your ego and rebuild it through psychedelics in order to heal yourself.

Perhaps part of the reason you find yourself in a bad situation now is because you have gotten trapped in the mentality that you can take this or that to "fix" something wrong with you. It will only bring you more problems in the end. If you want to fix yourself it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication.

DMT. It fixes problems.

I was hanging out with a group of friends. five of us have regular anxiety issues that disrupt our daily lives. My friend had extracted some dmt at home, so obviously we all enjoyed a bit. If you just do a small dose, 20-30 mg, it can solve problems. One of my anxiety ridden friends explained how during his experience, it was like he just battled all of his anxieties one by one. And all of us experienced no anxiety for the rest of the night, and a couple days after. Me and one of my buds have the phobia of being in dark places. And he told me that the next day he went in the bathroom, turned off the light, and just sat in there, and was just at peace. So I tried myself and had a very similar experience. I actually have a much more severe case of this phobia, and ever since that night, I haven't been feeling my irrational fears.

Trust me, we have to be the most anxiety crippled people i know, and we all experienced some sort of turn around.

also. i don't know if this is the case for you. But I can't smoke weed because I get pretty severe anxiety. And when you smoke the dmt with weed, if you're like me, it can ruin the experience for you, blocking you from fully experiencing it. So I'd suggest smoking it with mint or something of the sort.
