Benzos The Benzodiazepine MEGA THREAD - Direct Benzo Questions Here

Benzodiazepines exhibit paradoxical as well as typical effects through calming one down, thereby bypassing layers of the conscious mind directly into the realm of not just impulse but true, unmasked emotion. This is why benzodiazepines can make people angry and/or sad. They reveal these emotions, not create them. Agree? If so, then they're valuable therapeutic tools against repression.

I obviously have my man. It's a knockout in a pill, it doesn't have any euphoria. It's not really even typical sedation, more like being shot with a mega-tranquilizer. Seroquil type I mean.

Not even close. Again, you have not tried it. It is NOTHING like Seroquel.

Triazolam = / = Quetiapine, by any stretch of the imagination IMO.

Triazolam is one of my favorite benzodiazepines, it's in and out of your system in next to no time at all. It works wonders for insomnia and post traumatic stress disorder.

I thought triazolam was one of the few benzos that was contraindicated in PTSD due to its relatively high frequency of paradoxical effects.

It's subjective effects are actually rather similar, and I have extensive experience with both as I've had an Rx for both of them. Triazolam has very little recreational effects and it's purely function IME. I would almost rather take seroquel if I'm using it for insomnia. Please do not question my experience with benzos.

Have you been prescribed to both for extreme insomnia?

LOL! You're talking to someone who has been using benzos since I was 16 - I'm now 28 and I've tried 19 different benzodiazepines, with triazolam being one of them. I'm a benzo fiend.

Then I respect your opinion. I wasnt trying to call you out on anything, many people that take drugs purely for recreation get different effects than from those of us, like you, that need them.

Nah, I don't get any paradoxical effects, as I said, my body reacts well to triazolobenzodiazepines, namely triazolam and alprazolam (which is also very effective for PTSD). I tolerate benzodiazepines in general rather well without much in terms of side effects.

Triazolam hands down is just an extremely potent hypnotic.

Seroquel is a strange substance. Despite having a pharmacological profile as an antichollinergic antipsychotic (in other words the least recreational category of substance) it still has a reasonable reputation of abuse, particularly within the prison population, however hyped up. Its not unreasonable to suggest that it has an unknown mechanism of action in some users which gets them high.

Thanks Ho-Chi! Ive never had anything to compare the instant knock out effect of triazolam besides seroquel.
Tricomb- The triazole benzo's aren't really my thing and like I said triazolam is a pure hypnotic with a lot less sedative and anxiolytic activity compared to the benzo's that I enjoy-am prescribed to. Quetiapine is similar in that it didn't produce many other effects besides solemnence and put me out. It's after effects were super pronounced though, unlike triazolam.
I would chose Halcion over it any day if I didn't have frequent awakenings.

I'm in the same boat, besides the fact that taking them relieves my withdrawal symptoms. That in and of itself is enough fun for me. Alprazolam brings out a lot I negative aspects of my personality, bc it's so damn good at lowering inhibitions. I would love to be able to use triazolam but it's not effective for my insomnia considering that I wake up frequently. Thus I am relegated to megadoses of the mid-long half life members of the family.

Edit: I just took my clonazepam for the first time in two days. I am feeling MUCH MUCH better. My taper is not going well. But the shrink is this week :)

I'm sorry to hear that you're dependent on them, that shit's not fun.

What do you take for insomnia to keep you asleep through the night? For that type of insomnia I respond best to temazepam.

I was prescribed to temazepam for awhile, at 30 mg capsules, but I could take 90-120mgs a night with a small 2 mg dose of clonazepam and still not fall asleep. I found temazepam to be enjoyable but it didn't have the hypnotic effects I need. Even my normal 5 mg of clonazepam with 350 mg soma and 1750 mg of gabapentin is just relaxing. Triazolam is awesome for getting me to sleep but I'll wake up 2-3 hours after taking it. I still have yet to found an effective hypnotic. I always run out of my script early because I end up taking a lot more clonazepam than prescribed.

Ouch with that tolerance.

Sounds like maybe an antichollinergic/antipsychotic medication might work better if you're taking 120mg Temazepam as well as 2mg Clonazepam and still not fall asleep; I would pass out without a peep. Maybe a cocktail of a GABAergic and the two former in addition to Melotonin/Rozeram and heavy exercise.

Ho Chi- I can't really take anti-psychotics because I have already gotten extra pyramidal symptoms for them in the past. Things like flexeril and amitripyline work okay but the tricyclics give me nightmares and I wake up from them. Ive had sleep studies done but my physicians can't find the source of the problem. I'm currently trying to taper so my rebound insomnia will go away. My GABA system is fried.

On the exercise front: I actually do find it to be extremely helpful I've just been dealing with a lot of injuries the last few years. I'm hoping to avoid knee surgery again, since I got one of my meniscus and infrapatellar fat pad removed last year.
