The Atlantic continues with a look at the embrace of Psychedelics from MAGA

I wonder what tripping with those dudes would be like....
Probably just like everyone else. I certainly don't think about politics after a healthy dose.

This makes me laugh, though:

"Kennedy shared that Trump had promised him control of several agencies, including the CDC, the FDA, the Health and Human Services Department, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, “and a few others.”

Thought I'd share a gift link to an article from The Atlantic posted today about the embrace of Psychedelics from DJT and RFK jr.

I once tripped with a a US Supreme Court Judge at an Alpine Valley Show. We had both acquired our tickets through the old direct "Mail Order" lottery for the Pavilion seats so the seating was randomized, but it turned out that the judge was totally cool. ⚡

Don't know about any career politician, but that judge was extremely cool and a solid Deadhead.

One of the things that always made me feel 'at home' within the subculture is this sort of oral/familial tradition where old heads and young pass down traditions through music and art, regardless of 'real world' affiliation. I grew up going to raves in the 90s and to this day I will always feel most at home with my family on a dancefloor dancing to the beat.

What makes me most sad about our current time is the decentralization that the internet affords us also means that young kids have to seek out that in-person intraconnection that sustains young-heads. My first connection to harm reduction came through erowid and online spaces, but linked me to in-person groups like Dancesafe. It's much easier these days to create a synthetic connection to others of like mind without realizing that it's necessary to actually go through with meeting people in person.

I suppose Trump rallies are a, albeit strange, form of this I suppose. But distilled whiteness without culture gets quite sad.

I'm sure in Trump's mind, Kennedy is the closest thing to acceptance from the Brahmin he could ever know. It seems to be the one thing that truly motivates him. Acceptance by the elite he feels so disrespected by. Kennedy, master manipulator he may be, is probably going to milk that as long as he can.

Yeah, um .... I guess if one paints with a wide enough brush that could be true.

I'm not a Trump supporter, but let's be real. There is a substantial number of Black and Latino voters that are at least attending rallies. Both of those communities are being economically affected by the Biden/Harris administration and they hold Harris as just as responsible as Biden. It's gonna come down to the wire for 2024, and Harris/Walz actually have a chance of losing.

I suppose that's true... Hell, even Marcus Garvey was known to find common ground with the KKK.

My cousin used to live in a 3 story tenement that was owned by his grandfather's cousin - They were old school scicilians, didn't trust banks, lived in the same building their whole lives (she lived there for 94 years). My cousin (who happens to be a big dead head) told me about how she was a big Trump supporter, but had one of those copper plates with JFK's profile on it, hanging in the front hall with a candle. He asked her about it once - how she got from Jackie to Donnie. She said that when 'they' killed JFK, she realized she'd been abandoned by the democrats - the dream was dead. I often think about that pipeline, we saw it with Bernie voters who turned for Trump in 2016, or even those who had been Obama voters in 2012 going MAGA. In my lifetime, free speech went from being something I heard from my mostly progressive social circles to becoming almost exclusively a notion championed by those who are passionately right-wing. It's all just a fluid melting pot I suppose.

I was on a call some years ago, our health center was awarded money to expand buprenorphine access, and there was some tele-training/discussion meetings we'd attend each week as part of it. We (urban northeastern US) were in a cohort with some health centers from Kentucky and Tennesee. I remember one day talking with a site that was struggling with a patient who was continuing to struggle with abstinence from opioids, but kept driving the 50+ miles round trip each week to get that Rx for buprenorphine. They said that normally they'd discharge the patient due to non-compliance, but that they were literally the only place within 75-100 miles of where this patient lived that offered medical services, let alone buprenorphine prescribing. I guess Obamacare is great if you have access to doctors, but what good is it if you live far away, or care is dangerous to access.

1% of us are represented by the right, and the upper 9% after them are represented by the left. The rest of us have no meaningful representation anywhere above the local level. Good reason to focus on local politics over national ones. They're less sexy, but they're much more likely to impact you.

Back in 2006 I did mdma+mda with a white supremacist, who was ex-military and liked like the type of person who'd be in a biker gang. When I showed up to his house who was ranting to his wife about how he doesn't want his son playing with that
n-word boy from down the street. For the record he was the friend of a friend. Was my 2nd time rolling and had a couple red dolphins and an mdma capsule. Spent the entire night sitting around a bon fire in his back yard; his wife, mother, and grandmother were rolling with us too. He told us about how he used to take massive doses of lsd and mescaline which didn't really seem to open his mind to positive views on race relations. Ironicly the dealer we got our mdma caps to re-dose with was black.
