I always use the mobile skin. Makes it much easier to see who's posting, as you don't have to keep scrolling left and right between the user's details and the post/thread. I could zoom out, but then the text would be too small.

You on Android? You should try the Opera browser, you can set it to reflow text when you zoom.

I've heard plus net are crap. Mind you my mate lives in Yorkshire n has never had probs with them.

Thanks for adding such valuable input to the discussion. Clearly your hearing that they are crap negates everything I said about them.

Back to the drawing board, Sadie. ;)

I'm with Talk Talk. I'm an idiot.

I can't be doing with Talk Talk annoying, pestering company they are. I hate ADSL to be honest. Wish we all had cable. My ex had virgin cable n they were ace. Plus you don't have to pay extra phone charges. I don't like having a land line so that's good. And it's easier to change your land line number if people pester you. With ASDL if you wish to change your number you're cut off the net for at least two weeks.

Virgin are excellent, it's the fastest and most reliable broadband ive ever had. It's only failed on one day in the couple of years ive had it and they sent a letter in advance waring about that planned outage for maintenance/upgarde work, thats a very different story to all the other ISPs Ive had previously. I can stream HD films on my 40" TV and the picture seems even better than standard HD.

Their only downside is that they are extremely 'on the ball' about blocking every single torrent or free download or pirate site you can find. :\Probably because it would directly threaten the revenue from the TV subscription arm of their company. I guess all ISPs might eventually start doing that, but until they do thats the only reason Id consider changing ISPs.

Virgin are evil and are against net neutrality.

And the premise that cable is better than ADSL is laughable, Evey.

In what way is that laughable? Genuinely interested.

I've never lived in a cable-ready area, so have been stuck with "up to 8mb" ADSL that actually connects at about 3mb. Don't even get me started on the upload speeds.

The promise of up to 156mb is quite appealing, tbh.

The quantity of cable providers VS ADSL providers = very little competition.

And if you're a gamer... which I'm not any more, but still: cable has an enormously-long latency time compared to ADSL. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

And I think - that if you pay for cable, you're kinda forced to pay for other shit you don't necessarily use, but then again you could say that about line rental with ADSL if you don't actually use your landline.

Get fibre if you want the best of all worlds. (Which I don't have yet, but hope to soon...)

I've just signed up to BT open zone fibre infinity. Never had a proper broadband connection before. For £42/month (inc. Line rental) you get up to 78Mbs download speed, unlimited internet, BT Sport & free weekend calls. Plus if you sign up before 5th march you get given a £125 voucher for Sainsbury's. Even phone line installation is free at the moment (normally £130). Sounds like a bargain.....

Back on topic, I'm angry I haven't taken the plunge before...

I think your largely talking nonsense :D cable is fibre, maybe not to the door but from the T junction just outside you house all the way back to the network backbone.

I could carry out some comparative PINGs but lifes to short ;)

I have cable these days along with the basic TV package with a HD recorder box thing downstairs and a normal box upstairs, I guess we could manage without the land line but it's a useful back up. I've always had a less reliable service with ADSL and we are a fair way from the exchange.

I consistently had pings of under 10ms with Virgin when I was up in London last year so I don't think cable has worse latency than ADSL, in fact I'd never heard that before.

I also didn't have to sign up for anything else, no phone, no TV. So that was better than ADSL which also requires a phone line (AFAIK).

What can make Virgin shit sometimes is the contention ratio, if loads of other people on your junction box are online at the same time, it quickly goes to shit. And the throttling seemed much more aggressive than with BT ADSL. This is largely all overcome with the use of a VPN though.

I will bow to your superior knowledge. :D

What was I right about?

I was just pissing in the wind...but it obviously sounded OK, I've built a career (that's what I'm calling it anyhow) on shot like that :D

Never, never trust a Southerner even if they are a bit ginger

That's what I hate about ADSL - having to pay line rental for a landline I'll never use - because, without the landline one cannot have broadband. It's not needed with cable n thus usually saves £10-20.
