You made smiles appear where they didn't normally grow.
You helped me remember
That a life beyond stability
Is the least we all deserve.
Which brings us to this moment.....
Lazers and lights and visual action
Distractions from reality.
We talked and laughed and sped
Our way through half a night and half a conversation.
I watch you dance,
Enjoying the show while it lasts.
Basking in the glow of your cheesy grins
The ones you direct right at me
And I realise
There's no such thing as a happy forever.
The world just doesn't work like that.
There are times i feel like I've walked away with nothing.
The empty handed loser in a game I tried so hard to win.
But life is more then tangible rewards
The congratulations and the handshakes and that shiny, golden trophy.
It's about the confidence that comes with experience
The knowledge that comes with learning
The memories that come with being loved.
And as I watch you melt into a sea of humanity
I remember 19 is too young to worry about never again.
We gave it our best shot.
No one could ask more then that.
So maybe I am a little crazy.
A fruit mixer of sorts.
But it's the best way to find stability in a world built for moments
Where forever means nothing but a promise for tomorrow.
So lets dance in this moment together
And ignore forgotten promises
Because right now is as close to forever as we get to come.
