They need to lose the Senate, too. The denial is real:

GOP senator says he's not interested in Woodward's latest explosive book on Trump, says it's a 'gotcha' book even though Trump was interviewed 18 times for it

Senator John Kennedy, of Louisiana. Reuters
  • Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana says he is not interested in any “gotcha” books, including Bob Woodward’s latest, which revealed President Donald Trump consistently claimed the coronavirus was no worse than the flu when he knew otherwise.
  • In an interview with CNN, published on Wednesday, Pamela Brown asked Kennedy if Trump’s actions were acceptable, or misleading to the public.
  • Kennedy responded three times, saying: “These gotcha books” didn’t interest him. He also said another one would be “out tomorrow.”
  • When Kennedy was pressed on the fact Trump told Woodward the coronavirus traveled through the air, he said: “To be is to act,” and he said that he didn’t judge officials in Washington “by what they say,” according to the Independent.
  • Kennedy wasn’t alone in his refusal to condemn Trump.
  • According to CNBC, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he hadn’t looked at the book yet, so he couldn’t answer any questions about it, and told reporters to direct their questions to the White House.

you cannot have a rational argument with somebody who did not arrive at their position rationally...

facts no longer matter to president trump, his enablers and many of his supporters.

Let's see what happens when a vaccine finally is ready for distribution and how big of a disaster that will be to get people to even take it, we'll see if Trump continues the same tactics.

If it really came down to that. And I tend to doubt that it will. One way or another, people will be compelled to take it.

Not saying that's right or ethical, I am saying though that no way in hell is the western world gonna sit by and continue to suffer the damage of the virus while countries like Russia or China, who will have no such ethical compunctions, begin their recovery.

I don't see any chance of that happening. If there's a vaccine, and on the outside chance not enough people are taking it, pressure will be applied until the numbers get high enough.

There's really no other realistic course of action I can see happening.

EDIT: to be clear, im talking about western democracies broadly. Not specifically America. So long as trump in change he will do whatever serves his interest even if it leaves America in economic ruin.

If our country wasn't in the place it was right now, I'd agree. Trump has caused so much distrust in our system, there are a lot of people who don't trust in the vaccine, currently. If the vaccine only has a 50% effective rate or lower to begin with, it's going to require a large majority of people to be willing to take it to offer real mitigation.

I don't see any chance of that happening. If there's a vaccine, and on the outside chance not enough people are taking it, pressure will be applied until the numbers get high enough.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Don't put it past Trump to encourage people to not take it if they don't want to, it's no different than with the masks or the 100 other things Trump does that "no one would do". It absolutely defies logic, until you realize it's all about his personal gain. If he personally gains more from people taking the vaccine, he'll encourage it. If in some convoluted game he thinks he'll upset his base, you can be guaranteed he'll weigh the option carefully.

Except trumps the one banking of a vaccine in time for the election. So that doesn't make much sense to me.

However as I added in my edited comment to my above post, trump will do what's in his interest. If he determines that enough of his base oppose the vaccine, he will just switch to being anti vaccine, deny he ever said anything else, let the economy continue to fail, and just blame someone else for the bad shit.

Right now a vaccine doesn't exist so he doesn't have to pick a side.

Exactly. We both said the same thing :) It will all come down to his base and how he weighs that, and it's at that point that I'm interested to see what he will do.

It's a tricky situation. Satisfy your bases anti vaccine tendencies or get the virus under control so the economy can start to recover.

I don't see him defying his most hardcore base so that's why I said I think he wouldn't push the vaccine and would just say it's the states problem.

I think this might have already been posted, but oh well...

Twitter explodes over Trump Nobel Peace Prize nomination: 'This is going to be glorious'

By Joe Concha - 09/09/20 10:05 AM EDT

President Trump's Nobel Peace Prize nomination created shock waves on social media, with conservatives hailing it and liberals railing against it on Wednesday morning.

Trump was nominated by Norwegian Parliament member Christian Tybring-Gjedde, who also serves as chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Tybring-Gjedde cited the president's role in brokering a landmark normalization deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during an interview on Fox News Wednesday morning.

“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” Tybring-Gjedde said, referring to Trump.

The nomination drew strong reactions on social media from across the political media spectrum.

The nomination drew strong reactions on social media from across the political media spectrum.

Tybring-Gjedde wrote in his nomination letter that the Trump administration played an important role in ending tensions between Israel and the UAE.

“As it is expected other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE, this agreement could be a game changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity,” he wrote.

He also cited Trump’s “key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and ... creating new dynamics in other protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea," Tybring-Gjedde added.

As part of the agreement, Israel will halt efforts to annex territory in the West Bank. The UAE also ended its boycott against Israel, resulting in trade and air travel between the two countries.

Trump shared the news of the nomination in at least 15 different tweets and retweets with his nearly 87 million followers on social media.

Trump has betrayed fallen soldiers.
He pals around with dictators and tyrants.
His lies have led to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

Yes, we all were paying attention. We all knew it was a problem, it wasn't the flu, and it's not even the same family, for crying out loud. We all were appalled and baffled when Trump kept gaslighting the country, and many, many people believed him. Which turned into a disaster when definitive data came out showing masks were effective, because Trump gaslighted his base to believe it wasn't dangerous, so people wouldn't wear masks - and it's still happening at his rallies, it's just pure insanity these people are rebelling against science and the good of our country - with Trump encouraging it to continue. Let's see what happens when a vaccine finally is ready for distribution and how big of a disaster that will be to get people to even take it, we'll see if Trump continues the same tactics.

Nice mischaracterizing, let's discuss this. At first, there was no definitive data to show if masks were effective or even if the virus aerosolized. Second, early on, all PPE had to be priotized to health care workers because of the initial shortage.

When? Please, source this
Did you even watch the video? Or were you paying attention then or more focused on impeachment and TRAVEL BANS FROM CHINA ARE RACIST/FACIST!!1 distractions from the left in the USA?

In this forum as well as the other echo chamber of the USA media biased more to the left that if something does not fit the collective groupthink circle wank claim of ORANGE MAN BAD!!1 that it must be incorrect, wrong, revisionist, etc.

Why not? They gave one to Obama for the grand achievement of not being Bush..
I hope Donald Trump wins the Nobel peace Prize as Barry Obama would see this as a huge blow to the Obama's failed presidency, and their huge egos fueled by narcissism and delusions of grandeur and celebrity that they are still milking.

Is de Blasio a medical expert? Fauci never said that, from the beginning. I understand early on many politicians claimed what de Blasio did to try to prevent panic, but the difference is that eventually when they learned what they were dealing with, they were honest with the American people. Trump spent months continuing to lie and gaslight, and he has now admitted to doing so. That's the problem, simple.

In February the same people accused Trump of overreacting to the virus when he banned flights from China. It doesn't matter. Downplay. Overreact. Whatever makes orange man bad at any given time.

Nothing damning. Any other leader could have said the same thing and actually be praised and no one would be talking about it in the first place. "Public opinion vs. Private opinion." The WHO and CDC could be accused of "downplaying" the virus at given points in the last 6 months. The WHO was downplaying the virus in the crucial early stages to cover up for China and everyone freaked out when Trump said he was defunding the WHO for being politicised. The CDC said NOT to wear masks because they don't work. The surgeon general said this. Then they changed their message because they simply did not want the public to hoard masks, so they downplayed masks. The false and made up fake news of 'Trump thinks dead soldiers are losers' attack didn't stick. On to the next histrionics over a made up "scandal".

Dr. Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told Fox News later: “I don’t think Trump ever distorted things that I spoke to him about.”

Referring to Trump’s coronavirus press briefings, Fauci said, “I don’t think he said much different than what we said [to him] when we were in the Oval Office.”

In March, Fauci told conservative Mark Levin on Fox News’ Life, Liberty & Levin that Trump’s response to the pandemic had been “impressive,” adding, “I can’t imagine that under any circumstances that anybody could be doing more.”

Biden caused panic in 2009 during the H1N1 outbreak when he told Americans to stay away from airplanes and subways. The Obama White House had to walk back Biden’s statements.

Trump's response, and the travel ban from China was justified. He was right to be cautious, but he was also right not to create a panic over something that ended up not being worthy of such.

Contrast Trump with Pelosi. Trump is telling the public not to worry, continue on with your lives, while behind closed doors hes taking the threat seriously. Pelosi is telling the public to close their businesses, stay inside, hide their face - while she does the exact opposite when out of sight. Two different approaches. One is the moral, ethical character. The other is the disgraceful, deceitful do nothing career politician.

If Trump is in the wrong, what the fuck was the Obama administration's response to Ebola then? Because publicly they came off as if they didn't give two shits or care at all about the people who died. I always assumed they were taking it seriously behind closed doors, and not alerting us publicly because that would be irresponsible. But if that is the wrong approach, given how Trump is treated, then I wonder if the Obama administration had a plan for Ebola at all? It seems apparent they didn't have much of a plan for Swine Flu either. The flu that killed younger people in their prime.

During the 2009 swine flu pandemic, the Obama administration suddenly told states to shut down their testing, without providing much in the way of explanation. And, Biden's top advisor at the time has acknowledged that the Obama administration didn't do "anything right" to combat that pandemic, before walking back those comments.

"In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases," CBS News reported in 2009. "The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?"

indeed.

discussion about the accuracy or efficacy of polling aside, the u.s. population's approval of president trump's handling of the coronavirus response is extremely low. about the best number (across entire samples) he is seeing is a high of about 40%.

more troubling, perhaps, for the president, is that his approval among republicans and independents has dropped noticeably.

with the election looming, and this weighing heavily, his attempts to rewrite history are pretty transparent...

He knows full full well, there will be no approven, safe, successful vaccine available any time this year.

Something is brewing. The market has been getting crushed all week. Probably week will lose more points since late march.

Being election and his unlimited access to money printer why is he doing this? Bulls are not happy this week at all. He is up to something sneaky. Careful if shorting.
