Is de Blasio a medical expert? Fauci never said that, from the beginning. I understand early on many politicians claimed what de Blasio did to try to prevent panic, but the difference is that eventually when they learned what they were dealing with, they were honest with the American people. Trump spent months continuing to lie and gaslight, and he has now admitted to doing so. That's the problem, simple.
In February the same people accused Trump of overreacting to the virus when he banned flights from China. It doesn't matter. Downplay. Overreact. Whatever makes orange man bad at any given time.
Nothing damning. Any other leader could have said the same thing and actually be praised and no one would be talking about it in the first place. "Public opinion vs. Private opinion." The WHO and CDC could be accused of "downplaying" the virus at given points in the last 6 months. The WHO was downplaying the virus in the crucial early stages to cover up for China and everyone freaked out when Trump said he was defunding the WHO for being politicised. The CDC said NOT to wear masks because they don't work. The surgeon general said this. Then they changed their message because they simply did not want the public to hoard masks, so they downplayed masks. The false and made up fake news of 'Trump thinks dead soldiers are losers' attack didn't stick. On to the next histrionics over a made up "scandal".
Dr. Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told Fox News later: “I don’t think Trump ever distorted things that I spoke to him about.”
Referring to Trump’s coronavirus press briefings, Fauci said, “I don’t think he said much different than what we said [to him] when we were in the Oval Office.”
In March, Fauci told conservative Mark Levin on Fox News’ Life, Liberty & Levin that Trump’s response to the pandemic had been “impressive,” adding, “I can’t imagine that under any circumstances that anybody could be doing more.”
Biden caused panic in 2009 during the H1N1 outbreak when he told Americans to stay away from airplanes and subways. The Obama White House had to walk back Biden’s statements.
Trump's response, and the travel ban from China was justified. He was right to be cautious, but he was also right not to create a panic over something that ended up not being worthy of such.
Contrast Trump with Pelosi. Trump is telling the public not to worry, continue on with your lives, while behind closed doors hes taking the threat seriously. Pelosi is telling the public to close their businesses, stay inside, hide their face - while she does the exact opposite when out of sight. Two different approaches. One is the moral, ethical character. The other is the disgraceful, deceitful do nothing career politician.
If Trump is in the wrong, what the fuck was the Obama administration's response to Ebola then? Because publicly they came off as if they didn't give two shits or care at all about the people who died. I always assumed they were taking it seriously behind closed doors, and not alerting us publicly because that would be irresponsible. But if that is the wrong approach, given how Trump is treated, then I wonder if the Obama administration had a plan for Ebola at all? It seems apparent they didn't have much of a plan for Swine Flu either. The flu that killed younger people in their prime.
During the 2009 swine flu pandemic, the Obama administration suddenly told states to shut down their testing, without providing much in the way of explanation. And, Biden's top advisor at the time has acknowledged that the Obama administration didn't do "anything right" to combat that pandemic, before walking back those comments.
"In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases," CBS News reported in 2009. "The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there's an epidemic?"
